San Mateo Treasure! Not too many people know about this place. Great pizza! Even better pasta! Huge portions.

I mostly came for the soup. I had the lemon soup which was good. I was able to work on my laptop at the patio area. The server was welcoming and served me right away. I like that I was able to pay up front so I didn't have to go back in or wait for her to come by to pay. I didn't need much service, but I saw her serving the other customers and regularly cleaning up trash in the patio area that had blown over from the Starbucks. A friend recently traveled to Europe and lamented that there isn't enough outdoor cafe/patio culture in America and I used to go to restaurants more and just relax outside, but I haven't gone back to my old ways since Covid. So it was nice hanging out for about an hour and just relaxing. I saw that they had a comic coming over and I wish I didn't already have plans. I'll be interested in returning to try out some of that pizza! read more

We stopped in absolutely famished after a long and arduous hike. Of course I stuck with the basics- pepperoni and basil pizza and Greek salad. When the salad came out, I was in awe at how massive it was. This is a big salad, as Elaine Benes would say! I figured we could always take the pizza home, but the salad would not be good leftovers. Then the pizza came out and we clearly ordered too much. I managed to finish a slice. It was hot, tasty, and loaded with toppings. The first was absolutely phenomenal- soft and chewy. Everything was delicious and we had pizza for a couple more days. I did have sticker shock. I think it was $47 for a large pizza and $21 for the salad. I'm going to be honest as usual. I have friends who support this small business and I hope they continue to do so. Personally, this isn't the restaurant for me. Garlic bread: dry, chewy; cheese is like a weird feta on top thats not melted all the way. Think of like a cheesy garlic bread you'd get with a cheap lunch tray at like a cheap picnic or something. Chicken pesto pizza: OMG, I could NOT with this pizza. Once again think of like a birthday party in a park and someone brings this mediocre pizza there. Just dry white chicken on a bland crust with okay pesto. The gyro appetizer with dolmas: The best thing I tried here, this was the only reason I didn't starve and die. Dolmas tasty not salty, gyro meat same, not salty, good. Fresh tomatoes, okay cheese. Calamari steak: Too salty with horribly undercooked dry rice and like senior citizen veggies from like a care home or something. Baklava: one of the worst Baklavas I've ever had. I had to carve it with a STEAK knife for my friends. I had a small bite, it was oily and gross and NOT flaky. Waste of money. Tasted stale and older than the restaurant. Service was spotty. Menus were as big as a stereo system. Ice water in their big glasses was amazing. Need to work on 1. Food taste 2. Refilling the water, we ordered soda but did not get free refills. 3. We had to get our own utensils and napkins since our waiter kept going outside to smoke a cigarette read more

Rainbow Pizza has humungous character as well as huge serving sizes. I do enjoy their pizzas, especially the Greek American and Hawaiian. The pastitsio is great too. Some of their other pastas, like the ravioli, are hit or miss. I haven't tried any other Greek dishes. The family vibe is strong and the servers are always friendly. Ambiance is interesting - very basic furniture and cutlery teamed with funny signs, privacy screens and attempts at resembling a little Greek town. Their menus are comically large, filled with random information and advice. I have a fondness for the restaurant, and lots of other people do too. Recommended for a laid-back outing. read more

I took out a medium #7 Greek pizza from here. I didn't realize how big the pizza was. It was a thick pizza with layers of high quality cheeze, pita cheese, olives and gyro. 2 slice was the utmost I could eat for a meal. Ideally that pizza was 8 meals for me. We came with a huge group on Friday, which is one of the big plusses: they are able to handle many huge groups. But at this Greek American fusion restaurant, they do everything big. The menu is the size of a 24" monitor for no good reason, and some of their menu is outdated - we tried to order a pitcher of beer and they said they only do it by the bottles Some of their dishes had mediterranean influence such as the salad, but I'd be hard pressed to say their pizzas are really greek influenced. If it's important to you that a restaurant follow your specific requests to leave out an add on, such as lettuce, then find another place. We are very cautious about lettuce right now and we asked for "no lettuce ". Our takeaway order contained lettuce, which rendered it inedible. Stellar experience when we visited for an early dinner with our toddler and baby on our way home on a Saturday evening. Service was excellent, the staff was super friendly (albeit slightly disorganised). They found a nice spot for us to park our stroller and gave us a high chair. Our son loved the giant olives on the Greek style pizza we ordered. The portions are huge and hearty - we had a mini pizza which fed my 2 year old and I and we had half a pizza to take home! We also ate a mountain of salad and some very tasty lemon/egg drop soup. The interior is quirky - lots of unique and colourful wall art. It's a little cramped in the entryway with a lot of delivery boxes and not much space - but once you get inside, it's spacious enough. I can't rate Rainbow Pizza high enough!!! Love, love, love their pizza. I used to go weekly but after moving more than 2 hrs away it's a rare treat. I recently had a friend fly into SFO and was able to talk him into picking up a few pizzas for me. I ordered them a couple of days ahead and they were ready when he arrived! They were just as good as I remembered them!! We ate one right away but the rest of them went into the freezer for another day. They re-heat perfectly in the oven or air fryer (a slice at a time). I especially love the sauce, not too much, not too little.... just the right balance. And the crust is like eating a wonderful sour dough bread. No crust left behind on these babies! YUM! Super filling so even a "mini" feeds two adults. My friend has already agreed to make this a frequent stop on his way home from his many business trips! We get Rainbow Pizza almost every year for my dad's birthday - the Greek American is one of his all-time favorites. While I don't personally love the plethora of toppings, he does, and that's what's important! My mom and I usually split the mushroom spaghetti (very comforting), Greek salad and garlic bread. They definitely excel in comfort food. We used to dine in frequently when we lived on the peninsula but have since gotten takeout. It was a great spot to bring groups for family dinners. Staff have always incredibly friendly and warm. Parking can be a bit tough in the complex since you're competing with Safeway, Starbucks and other restaurants, so either wait for a spot or park in the lot along the side. Last night was my second time dining here this year. The first visit was on Valentine's Day, when my fiancé and I ordered pizza, mozzarella sticks, and a salad. While the food initially tasted great, we both ended the night with severe food poisoning. Several months later, we decided to give the restaurant another chance since we had enjoyed the pizza at first. This time, we ordered the Caesar salad with mozzarella sticks, I had a mini number 4 pizza, and my fiancé had a chicken with artichoke dish. He felt fine afterward, but unfortunately, I experienced another round of serious food poisoning. I do not typically have a sensitive stomach, so I strongly believe the issue lies in how the food is prepared or cooked. Our search for a carby meal brought us to this place. The first thing that sets this place apart is its gigantic menu that's overwhelming to both hold and choose. In hindsight, we should take that as a hint of things to come as the theme for tonight's dinner is "BIG". All of their pasta dishes come with a side of garlic bread. We went with the Linguini Vangole in white sauce. The portion was massive! The pasta was covered in a generous amount of clams, both with and without shells. I also loved how garlicky it was. My breath definitely stunk through the following day. The garlic bread was very toasty and buttery. We also ordered the Greek-American pizza. This thick crust pizza was a meat lover's heaven as it was filled to the brim with salami, pepperoni, Italian sausage and thick bacon. Our 10" small size was enough to feed 2 people for 2 meals. I would give Rainbow Pizza 5 stars if purely based on the food itself. However, we waited over half an hour for the pizza and nearly an hour for the pasta. I understand that we came during peak dinner time but a restaurant should have this figured out after being in the business for decades. For that, I hate to do this but, I had to dock one star. I think waiting 1 hour for a dish was a bit too excessive. As I wrote at the top of this review, everything about this place was big: big menu, big portions, big wait time. Despite of that, we will definitely be coming back soon to try some of their other dishes in the Dinner and Greek sections. I look forward to giving them 5 stars soon! read more

My brother told me about Rainbow and their huge delicious portions. He was spot on! He got the Spaghetti and Meatballs it came with four good size meatballs. He shared one with me and I enjoyed the flavor. It also came with a generous amount of French bread. I got the Veal Piccata and you can't go wrong with lemon butter and capers. The staff is warm and friendly, the food is delicious, the size of everything is massive, and the whole experience just feels like you're being welcomed in to a Greek/Italian family. It is a bit overwhelming with the size of the menu (both amount of items, and physical size of the menu). They literally have something for everyone, though. Highly recommend a pizza or a pasta dish. All the items are proportionally big. We had a party of 11 and ordered an extra large pizza Caesar salad, calamari, three pasta dishes and the zucchini and eggplant appetizer. We had plenty of leftovers because the portions were humongous. I did enjoy the zucchini and eggplant appetizer, and felt the pizza was more than generous in their toppings and cheese.
