    Wine & Roses room

Full disclosure: I did not stay here. I rented the Wine & Roses room for 4 hours for a photo shoot, which the staff were cool about. It was $80 for the 4 hours. The Rainbow Motel is a vintage theme motel, that was fit for fantasy and fun in its heyday. It is an ultra kitschy adult playground with heart shaped mirrors on the ceiling, maximalist decor, jacuzzi tubs, and even a sandwich shaped bed in their "Out To Lunch" room. The motel has been featured in the iconic book "Hotel Kitsch". Unfortunately, in 2024, it is dilapidated, dirty, and not somewhere I would ever spend the night. I arrived on a weekday morning, and was greeted by a friendly caretaker with no teeth. I made my way to the office, where a sweet younger woman took my payment and gave me a key. I seemed to be the only guest there. The surrounding area felt safe; it is in a residential neighborhood. I opted for the Wine & Roses room for the heart shaped bed, pink jacuzzi tub, and pastel wall murals. You can tell that at some point, this place was loved and cared for. But now, the room had slick, oily floors, smelled of stale cigarettes, and seemed to be covered in layers of filth. I embraced the experience, had a great shoot, and left hoping that someday this diamond in the rough will be restored.

the bed, the dirty radiator, the red lights that won't turn off.

This place has cool rooms, but a few of them were broken. The rooms smelled of smoke and the walls were covered in either soot or mold. The jacuzzi tub had a huge crack in it and a lot of the room had cracks or holes. The shower and sink were pretty gross. Brought my own cleaning materials but the bed still seemed quite sus. They do not take reservations in advance and the overnight price is way too high for what you get. The red light above the bed does not turn off. Did not take any photo other than this due to not thinking I would review the place.

I know what Motels are, I've stayed in my fair share, I know their standards but this place... wow. Short vision: There's no online booking so you have to drive there to physically put down a deposit. The room, bedding, floors, jet tub were covered in cigarette burns. The shower had the previous stayers hair still in it. The underside of the white toilet was very dirty and colored. The upside down ice bucket on the table had also a hair inside it. The floor was extremely oily. The clerk didn't care/apologize for the hairs saying, "Well, people shed..." The jet tub... worked. The mini fridge got cool but there was also Mold growing in the door's rubber lining. The AC unit attacked us with weeks worth of grimy dust. The bed sheets on the circle mattress were not fitted and too small and kept pulling off and exposed a horrible, old, stained, floral-patterned, granny mattress. (most likely from the 80s, Ps. that's when the Motel opened) Long Vision: (should defiantly still read) So we live in Chicago and had to drive all the way up there twice because they don't have online booking. The first time there everyone was seriously friendly and even let us look at some vacant Fantasy "Suites" just so we could decide which room we'd like best. The rooms were very dim, a quick in and out and we decided on the Odyssey Suite, even without seeing it because I of course wanted to sleep in "fun" raunchy spaceship room. The day after Valentines Day we check-in, get into the room everything appears fine at first except there's cigarette burns all over the room, on the bedding, the floor, and all over the tub and inside it. I was like no Big deal because it's a McNasty Motel and the room smelled like cigarettes, anyway we've already drove here and paid for it so whatever. We left to get drinks and food came back got undressed and once our feet hit the floor it was so gross! It literally felt like massage oil was covering the floor and we were slipping around. (I'm sticking with massage oil cause the other options are far worse!) The toilet's undersides were so dirty and grimy and colored. When we got in the shower there was already hair waiting there from the previous stayer! And when we went for the turned over ice bucket on the table it too had a lovely hair inside it! My husband went to get ice and let the clerk know about the hairs and the slippery floor and all she said was, "Well, people shed..." There was no expression on her face, no apology and no new ice bucket (we didn't want the ice anymore anyway) and my husband returned steaming, so we made the best of it and got in the jet tub. It was spacious and despite the cigarette burns worked well. We decided to chill our drinks in The mini fridge and it did get cool but there was also Mold growing in the door's rubber lining. Once out of the tub we tried turning on the AC unit to cool the room down and were hit with a dust storm! I quickly turned it off and we saw it stuffed over with dust as though it hadn't been cleaned out in more than awhile and the wall it shared was also crusted over with nasty dust. There was no choice but to open a window and let me tell you, two adults crouching at a floor level, 12inch opening, window for fresh air at a Love Motel is not going to make you feel the love. We're good sports though so we laughed at everything and went to sleep and decided to write our first "angry" review when we got home and also take a bleach bath! I'm not really mad about it, but seriously go somewhere nice! Who cares if it's not a raunchy, crusty, rusty, McNasty, fk-tard-tastic place with an 80 yr. old space bed! At least you'll have your health and dignity! Who cares about a bucket list! You know what's way more important and cooler!?? Not contracting a STD! (without even having relations) Oh yeah and I don't have pictures of the Hairs because it was so early on in the night and we weren't thinking about saving them for a review, sorry.

This was the condition of the floors. This suite was filthy!

This place was ok! I just think the room was a little bit small, and needed some bubbles for the jacuzzi. Besides that everything was ok.

This hotel was located within the loop near the river, shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel rooms are basic and small. We were fortunate to get an upgraded room with two queen beds and an amazing view out the window of the city. The window was large and clean. The beds were comfy with ample pillows. Four pillows were provided. The hotel set up is a bit awkward. Room is best for one person as lacks storage for large luggage. Plus there is not a defined bathroom. The shower is within the bedroom. Fortunately the shower was frosted but you walk right into the bedroom so you must be comfortable with those you stay with. Plus the room does really have a deck and chair to work. The desk is a fold down from the wall. The chair for the deck is located on the wall and not really suitable for long term working on sitting as does not have a back to it. The best thing above this hotel are the staff. The front desk staff are super friendly and accommodating and aim to please. The bartender was super friendly and attentive as well. Lastly parking is not available right at the hotel. You have to walk two blocks. Plus parking cost 59 dollars and that's the discounted rate. Also not really a suitable place to drop luggage off. If you pull up to the front door, you are blocking traffic. Base on price of 400 dollars the night we stayed, I would say it's not worth the stay. Maybe it's worth 200 or less for Chicago.

While searching hilton.com for a hotel to stay at on the day of my birthday, Hampton Inn Majestic…read moreChicago Theatre District was the first to pop-up within Chicago. I want to say that I have had my eye on this hotel for a while now after looking for Hilton hotel locations with a peloton bike, which this one has. Other than that, I loved that the location of this hotel sits in the heart of Chicago, surrounding a plethora of activities which made it the perfect choice for hotel stay to celebrate. Okay, it was an experience going up to the lobby area to check in at this hotel, a blonde moment as I am known for if you follow my reviews. The lobby is located on the 4th floor, so be sure to choose "L" for the lobby because there is no 4th floor button listed in the elevator. Me and two other hotel guests had an adventure going up to the lobby area after trying to figure out where the 4th floor button was. My experience with the receptionist working behind the desk was nothing less than professional. Since my room was already booked through Hilton Honors, the only thing check-in consisted of was a verification of my information, a briefing on what is offered, and the receptionist giving me my room key. For your information, check-in starts at 4:00 PM and check-out ends at 12:00 PM! If you have the Hilton honors application, there is the opportunity to check in with the application, choosing your room, and receiving a digital key, which will allow you to go to your room contactless without seeing a receptionist upon your arrival. I have not used this method, but if you are interested in no contact whatsoever then you can use it with the Hilton Honors application. After locating and entering my room, I thought to myself this is fancy once I took notice of the design and interior color which appeared so elegant! There was a variation of vibrant colors in the room from its curtains to the headboard of the king-size bed, the carpet, and a gold chair that looked like something out of your grandmother's house. Out of all, I just could not take my eyes off the curtains which reminded me of cherry blossoms because of the colors. Inside the bathroom there were liquid products by Gilchrist & Soames Zero% attached to the wall. Throughout my travels, I have noticed that hotels have completely dealt away with the mini shampoo, bath soap, and conditioner products that made great travel hygiene additions. Along with those notable things inside of the room, it met my cleanliness standards. I had no issues whatsoever getting comfortable in the king-sized bed during my stay as my head was engulfed in between the comfortable pillows. While utilizing the shower, I really enjoyed the water pressure; its soothing pressure made me feel very cleansed during each usage. It was wonderful toggling with the spray patterns, with the addictive feel of the pressure hitting my face and body. Other things the room came with that I noticed were a comforter, an iron, ironing board, blow dryer, safe, comforter, a coffee maker (Hamilton Beach), a mini refrigerator, microwave, and USB and AC plugins attached to either the headboard of the bed, lamps, or the television cabinet, which added a nice touch to the room. And the Wi-Fi internet was easy to connect to and not once did I have any connectivity issues with it during my stay. Hampton Inn Majestic, as expected, had an exceptionally beautiful inner interior! As a fitness enthusiast, it was great having a fitness center onsite because it allowed me to keep up with my fitness routines during my stay. I must say that I was pleased to see several dumbbell weights, medicine balls, kettlebells, a decent selection of workout machines, and two peloton fitness bikes which charmed me out of my panties once I spotted them. And oh, honey did I enjoy it on my birthday with the lovely Hannah Frankson as my peloton instructor, who put my legs through torture during her low impact workout. Having the complimentary breakfast was a relief because I did not have to worry about finding a restaurant for breakfast in the morning. And I was highly satisfied with the quality of what was presented. It is served daily from 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM. For you all visiting the city of Chicago, there are plentiful sights, activities, and restaurants within a radius of Hampton Inn Majestic. As a resident, a few that I adore are Willis Tower, Millennium Park, and the Art Institute of Chicago! Next door is the CIBC Theatre, which I noticed upon my initial arrival at the hotel. And if you are looking to explore the city or outer part of the city, the Chicago Union Station, and CTA Train Station are very accessible to-and-from. I would surely book Hampton Inn Majestic Chicago Theatre District again due to my experience with it because the hotel met my comfort needs, and I loved that its location is within an accessible distance of things of interest in downtown Chicago. ~ Live every moment ~ Thomas G
