The staff was exceptionally friendly and even though they were incredibly busy, we didn't feel rushed. Our server was absolutely incredible. He had to explain to me what Disco Fries are. I'm glad I asked - they're essentially an American spin on poutine, and they are AMAZING here. Food came out super fast, everything was delicious. Overall not a great experience unfortunately. I ordered a Greek wrap for dinner. The wait time was pretty long for such a basic menu item and for how empty the place was. The wrap itself was not wrapped correctly as it wasn't overlapped at all on the ends meaning that it was impossible to pick up without the entire wrap opening up. I had to re-stuff and rewrap it myself. There were hard chicken bits inside the wrap which was a real turn off. The fries were cold and soggy when received. The decor is very try outdated, which is typical of so many great diners, however this is not one of those The staff was very nice and attentive which is why I gave 2/10 stars. read more

Then we shared one small grilled cheese sandwich (7.95). only no sides they charged us extra 3.50 dollars just for sharing then when we asked why the extra charge they got mad and said it's policy !! The Rainbow Diner has achieved a new low for a restaurant selling non-food as food today. I ordered pot roast with a potato pancake and red cabbage. I'm convinced that the potato pancake was really an old dirty sponge that was thrown on my plate and slathered with gravy along with the desiccated antique meat they referred to as pot roast. They must have made a mistake with the red cabbage because it was pretty good. That was at 3:30 PM today it is now 10:54 PM and the non-food lays in my stomach like something an alien left behind as a biological experiment to see if humans would really eat anything put in front of them or perhaps it's just an extraterrestrial joke I find myself in. I'm clueless as to which. I can tell you this the next time I'm hungry I'm sticking to canned dog food. If for no other reason to protect my digestive system from further non-food experiments by aliens . Can you give less than 1 Star???? We just went there for dinner. Never have I ever had the main course come out just a minute after our salad & soup. My meal said it came with a salad. I ordered a Gyro Pita Platter that said it came with fries. I got my Salad, then he brought out a pita bread with a couple slices of meat. When I asked where the rest was, he told me that us what the salad is for!!! I never did get my fries!!! I had a little more Tzaziki, so I was eating it with the bread from our bread bowl. He took my boyfriend's dish since he was finished eating. He asked if he could take mine, but I said I was still eating. So why did he grab the bread that was left, that I was still eating????? When he came back to the table I told him I was still eating that! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! I ONLY GOT HALF MY MEAL, AND HE DIDN'T EVEN LET ME FINISH THAT! But of course I had to pay full price! I love diners. I'm pretty easy to please and Diners though mediocre for the most part, sometime certain things set them apart. In this case they bring out the food on piping hot plates. This is great and I think more diners should do this. Since diners and other places serve up such big portions, as you try to eat around your entrees, they start to get cold, even if you try to eat fast (which you shouldn't do) you want to enjoy your food. Heating up the plates kept my pancakes nice and hot just how I like, awesome touch. Everything else was pretty standard, but the diner is spacious and clean. Server was nice and the food was good. Again, I'm not hard to please, but my food coming out on hot plates will do the trick for me anytime. read more

Quick review here, our first experience and it was decent, Just a couple of tuna salad sandwiches on toast with fries. Both very good and served just as ordered. Their slaw and pickle were delicious and we shared a slice of NY style cheesecake with cherries which was very good as well. Went there today. The breakfast egg white omelet was cooked perfectly, and you get a huge portion of home fries. Coffee was good quality and strong. Waiter service was prompt and friendly. My friend got the roast beef club sandwich and it was huge. He needed a doggy bag for one half of it that he could not immediately eat. George is an excellent waiter, cooperative, quick and friendly. Diner was very clean, well lighted and full of customers, as most of them look like they were "repeat" customers. I have been to many diners in NJ but this is now, my number one choice.
