Unfortunately for me my apartment's building was quite old and due to that my apartment was affected a couple times during the process of getting the new roof. My apartment manager and insurance were useless when helping me out but Scott, the owner listened and explained what went wrong. I was upset about some damage that we had, and unable to get help from my renters insurance or my apartment manager. Scott went out of his way to make things right for us. This is my personal opinion and I don't trust this company. You need to double, triple check their billing, especially the time/hours they charge you. Be careful of the "travel" time they put on the invoice. They're supposed to fix the roof leak (there's definitely a roof leak) but they will say that they didn't find any leak. Then, of course, you will have to call them back next time it leaks, and then "they find" the leak. If they only did their job the first time, we wouldn't have to pay for their second visit. That's how they make money. And when you question their charges, they all get defensive like the customers don't have the right to do that. Instead of helping their customers willingly, they make it sound like they're doing you a favor. Give your business to other companies that are worth your money and time and more trustworthy. read more

True professionals with a fast response time! I had a mid-size roof project and most other contractors did not not even want to entertain a sub $10,000 project. Do not trust them. They suggested spending almost $20,000 for one small window leak by changing all windows even though they weren't leaking, instead of just sealing the windows with caulk or New flashing. They didn't even bother to propose a more efficient and economical method. Even after spending $20,000, they will only warranty their work for three years. Many other companies provide a 10 year warranty, and window companies provide a 20+ year warranty. I don't know how these guys stay in business. I got another bid from someone else and he fixed everything for $500 versus $20,000. read more

I recently had a problem with the roof leaking in my Mom's house but neither of us know anything about roofing. My co-worker referred me to Rain Defense saying how they had made the whole process very simple and even went out of their way to get the job done. I have never had to deal with something like this before so i called and explained my problem as well as I could. The guy I spoke to (Adam) was very friendly and really knew his stuff! He said I needed to authorize a "Not To Exceed" contract for $1,000. I'm a girl, so i always worry about being taken advantage of but my co-worker said I could trust them.. so I signed it. Rain Defense is great. We had a roof leak and when called for repairs they send a crew right away to take care of the needed roof repairs.

Do not under any circumstances employ these people. They failed to manage a simple re-roofing job. First they installed the wrong material. Their attempts to fix the error only made the problem worse. My yard ended up covered with flakes of their roof coating. More of it ended up in the gutters in front of the house. Their sheet metal work was shoddy. I could not communicate with anyone on site since they spoke no english. . I had to climb up on the roof regularly to inspect their work. Supervision is not the customer's job. To make matters worse, the owner is rude and unapologetic. I'm inclined to sympathetic since I've worked in construction, but these people, particularly the owner, should be avoided. read more

They showed up 15 minutes late, and then asked for me to agree to pay for that extra 15 minutes when they were traveling. The guy on the phone told me it would be a minimum $280. for one hour for two men and materials but my hour was was a quarter over. I tried to talk to them and they would not budge. I tried to confirm what they were going to do and they could not agree that they could clean the gutters. They did not think they had new rain spouts. I wish I had called others, and not wasted my time on them. read more

I have used Rain defense once before and because of product issues we had some problems. Mike came back to the house and made it good We so appreciated his help with the problem. I also used him to pinpoint a leak in the room below the deck. He sent out his foreman Gelber who diagnosed the problem and with his crew, corrected the problem and put on a new deck. The entire crew cleaned up every night, moved all the furniture and kept me aware of what was happening every step of the way. Without a doubt I will use Rain Defense for any water problems. Mike and Rain Defense installed a new, waterproof deck for us about 2 years ago, and did a great job, created a beautiful deck for us. I recently noticed some minor surface marks at the flashing edge of the deck, called Mike who came out with the West Coast rep, assured me that there was no potential leak issue, offered to grind out and re-coat the area if we wished, and in short left me feeling 100% assured that I made the right decision to go with Rain Defense. Called Rain Defense to deal with a nightmare scenario up on our roof in Berkeley. We have a cell site on our roof owned by a major carrier starting with the letter "A", and they did a terrible install recently. The site platform leaked from day one of their most recent cell site cabinet "upgrade". Mike at Rain Defense came out and really took the bull by the horns. He not only worked to correct the problem - which required renting a crane and having a full crew up there for several days, waterproofing under the cell cabinets and improving the roof tie-ins - but he worked directly with the carrier and their subcontractors. He also kept my tenant down below informed as to what was going on - and calm - and that was a great relief to me as landlord (...nothing worse than an upset tenant that's getting rained on). He kept them dry during the entire process, and dealt with a lot of red tape on the other end involving the temporary shut-down of a major cell site so that the cabinets could be lifted. When it came time to get reimbursed for damages, he was very firm with the carrier and in no uncertain terms, made it clear they needed to reimburse us for 100% of the damage they had caused due to lousy waterproofing practices during the site upgrade. They paid without any argument. Rain Defense is my vendor for all roof repairs from now on. 5-stars. read more

Mike, Gelber and the crew are hard working, honest and do very high quality work. Mike works hard to make sure you as a prospective customer are happy with the scope of work and costs. Once the contract is signed, he hands the project over to Gelber and his crew onsite. It's all very transparent which allows you the customer to clarify anything if needed. We hired Mike and his Rain Defense team twice. First to waterproof stairs and a rooftop deck that were poorly waterproofed by the previous owners. Second, to apply an elastomeric coating to the side of the house that gets the most rain, as well as repaint window trim, fascia boards and metalwork that needed attention. In both cases they worked quickly, and to a very high quality. Despite some unexpected problems (the previous "waterproofing" coating had to be removed before they could begin), they still stayed on schedule. Making our house waterproof has been a frustrating 3 year journey. We were glad to have a clearly superior product applied to the horizontal surfaces. To make sure that no water seeped through the stucco under the new coating, we took great confidence in Rain Defense's expertise in waterproofing to waterproof the vertical surfaces as well. They did a great job! Painting external metal work and trim (fascia boards, windows), they went beyond the call of duty. They cut railings off, painted them elsewhere onsite and then re-welded them in place, saving existing landscaping from being damaged or destroyed. Long story short, they know what they're talking about, they do great work and they stand behind it. The most important thing for Mike is a happy customer. We definitely are. read more

Working with Rain Defense has been tremendously rewarding! They've finished a roofing job for us that has addressed many years of band-aid treatments by other vendors. At least 15-18 inches of layers but their expert knowledge of the actual problem led to real solutions. The workers were organized, detailed and safety oriented. Rain Defense installed a deck (above a bedroom) in 2007. Several years later (after the warranty) the deck began leaking into the bedroom. Rain Defense showed up to stop the leaking immediately. A couple of months later the owner (Mike) came by and proposed several options to identify the root of the problem. After I had several layers of the deck removed Mike inspected the surface and took full responsibility for the problem. He and my structural engineer that I hired agreed to a plan to remove the old deck and install an entirely new and better deck at no cost to me. This would have been a $25k-$30K job but Mike took full responsibility and reinstalled a new deck. This could have been an awful situation, but Mike worked with me to make it as fair as possible. I did have to pay to have the deck cleared (including my hot tub) and then reinstated, but I got a beautiful new deck with a full warranty. Mike is really honest and fair. I recommend him highly and plan to use him again for any related work. read more
