Was in the area to visit the Sacramento History Museum and needed a bite to eat. This is in a high tourist area in Old Sac. It was a pretty popular choice for the lunch crowd today. We ordered at the window and a majority of the seating on the covered plank walkway were taken. There was also a large seating area behind the establishment with many picnic tables and shade.... Perfect. There is a nice view of the waterfront and walkway There were three of us in our party Orders were : coconut shrimp and chips Fish and chips and calamari and fries We all enjoyed our items. The fries were especially good with some sort of seasoning/spice on them mmmm Only sticking point. One tiny cup of tartar sauce for the Three plans of fish.... I went to get more and was told it would be .50 . Not a huge charge but we'd paid $60 total for the three lunches you can't spare one more ?

First time in Sacramento had to check out OLD TOWN. I was craving seafood. I was expecting seafood prepared in all kinds of ways. Their specialty is fried seafood. Fish n' chips (fries). I got the shrimp & fish combo. Delish! The staff were very friendly & restaurant seemed clean inside. Which needs no explanation for their longevity - definitely a spot to hit up in old town Sacramento.
I've eaten here twice now in the last couple months and it doesn't disappoint! There are tables out front, inside, as well as a whole patio behind the building. Food comes out pretty quickly and they're very organized! The fish and chips plate is fried perfectly, and I love the big side of tartar sauce that they give. They also have other options besides fish and chips, even burgers that are actually pretty decent! Our kids love the corn dogs and you can choose to get them without a side too so you're not overloaded with fries. I like upgrading to the garlic fries, which are fragrant and taste so delicious!
Outdoor covered seating, fresh food made to order with a nice cold beer. Family friendly and the kids loved the food as much as we did. The service was quick and even though it was mostly outdoor seating it was either covered or had trees for shade. It's a must try if you love fish and chips. Very welcoming especially with the kids.
I've been here multiple times, and is satisfied every single time. I got the fish, shrimp, and chips combo for $19.99. It came with five big jumbo shrimps, and two pieces of fish. The batter is very light, and their tartar sauce is amazing. I got the food within five minutes of ordering. There is plenty of tables in front and back of the restaurant.
Perfect quick stop for some fried food and chowder! Nothing like a warm bowl of delicious chowder on a chilly Sac night! They have plenty of outdoor seating which is great for people watching in Old Sac. Don't expect gourmet.... This is exactly what you expect for walk up Fish & Chips! But it is tasty, quick and great location
Been meaning to try this place for a while and glad we did. Hole in the wall vibes with great food. Fish was flakey and not to greasy. Fries were crisspy. Clam chowder was creamy and filling. Service was fast even with a line. Seating inside, behind and in front. It was expensive but it's Old Sac so expected.
I had the fish, shrimp and fries...a lot of food. 2 large pieces of fish, 4 big shrimp and a ton of fries. They use a batter sort of like a tempura batter and I liked it a lot. Very fresh, hot and tasty. We were there on a weekday at lunch and there were plenty of tables, both indoor and outdoor, from which to choose. There was a gentlemen cleaning the dining area outside nonstop. Delicious!
This place is located in Old Sacramento so you have to pay for parking. The fish pieces are small but tasty .This wouldn't be my first pick for Fish and Chips but it is acceptable.
Looking for a decent meal that was within proximity to Oldtown Sacramento, the wife and I stumbled upon Railroad Fish & Chips. The food was surprisingly affordable and service was definitely well accounted for. We both ordered the Fish & Chips and agreed that it was not only a better value than others but also quite tasty. The one drawback is that the seating is outdoors and you're susceptible to dealing with an unfortunate amount of outside noise but if you're looking for a quick and affordable meal this is a nice spot to stop by. 4/5.

Don't have the pictures but the food is a win win for price and convenience. Place is a little run down but the location and fresh fish is always a good choice. Fast service! Atmosphere was as expected being a late night Saturday quick bite. Catfish and chips for the win! read more

This wasn't a bad choice. The prices can seem a little bit high but the cheapest they got is a corn dog and fries. All the drinks are sold separately in bottles and have no fountain cups. The employees are friendly and come to get our order in, but take a while to ask for more condiments. The mood is calm but since it's all outdoors, the light reflects off the cars and gets in your eyes and the wind blows the napkins away and the music is old classic 1950s style to make it feel retro. read more

Came by on a weekend. Area was busy as there was an A's vs. Yankees game going on, my bad! But I was craving their fish & chips. To my surprise, they have an awesome order for pick up system on their website. Easy peasy to order and there was passanger loading near by in the shade so got our food and left! Love their fish and chips although if you want crispy fries, this may not be the place for you. Their fries are a little on the soft side, which I do not mind. I like them! read more
Next time you're in Old Sacramento run don't walk to Railroad Fish & Chips! The batter is golden delicious and crispy and the food is fresh. Every piece is battered and fried to order so that means no soggy fish waiting under a warmer. I got the fish & shrimp combo and they are generous and the fries seasoned and crispy! They are super friendly and they are quick as can be for order made seafood. There is a walk up order window without tables inside or dedicated but there are tables along the boardwalk that you can snag. They have the London style batter but they make catfish using a cornmeal batter that looks delicious and they even have pretty good burgers...something for everyone! read more
Visited July 16th..see my receipt. This place is just steps from the Delta King in old Sacramento. Every time I come to this area this place is always crowded! It is kid and pet friendly. They do a booming business and they get the orders out quickly. I ordered the fish and chips and they were hot and crunchy and not greasy! It also comes with fries. I shared it with my friend and we could not finish the one order! I see why they are busy..consistent in their food quality! You place your order and then they call your number when it's ready to pick up. They have inside seating ( small area) and outdoor seating both in the front and in the back where you can watch the train go by. They also serve beer and sodas. I am not sure if they have wine. Great fast lunch. No frills. Very casual yet relaxing! Great corner location! read more

Excellent choice if you are in old town! Quick ordering with a walk up window. Then you wait until they call your number through a speaker so you don't have to worry if you'll be able to hear them. Busy but organized vibes. DELICIOUS juicy, crispy, salty battered white fish. Thick fries with a good balance of soft inside and crispy edges. The tartar sauce was soooo good too. read more

We loooooooove this fixture in Old Sac. SOLID fish-n-chips, SOLID shrimp-n-chips, yummy tartar sauce, and friendly talkative staff. Crispy batter, flaky moist fish, crunchy moist shrimp, tasty cole slaw, and no-frills fries. Solid - I already said that. Inside seating was helpful (we're not kids anymore). Tons of maritime kitsch all over the walls. We happened to be there on a preview night for the Polar Express train that runs out of the station. Too fun to see the family joy. Anyway, go for the food. I mean, that's the main thing. We've since learned that early on a weekday evening is the shortest wait for food and seating . . . and parking. read more
Randomly stopped by as we waited for the near by boat launch. They had no line and we quickly ordered and grabbed a little outdoor table. It took less than 10 minutes to get our food which I was pleasantly surprised about. We loved the fish and the clam chowder was decent! It tasted fresh and seasoned perfectly. I didn't love the fries but I'm picky with my French fries. I also didn't love the homeless man hanging out begging for money.... But it is old sac for ya. Otherwise I'm excited to try this place again and see what else they have. read more

came here on my lunch break, food was satisfying, service was quick! I was able to walk around a little bit and my food was ready at the window. I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger with fries! The fries were wonderful and a good amount given. The burger was also yummy, but could have used a little bit more salt or flavor on the patty itself. Other than that everything was great, i was able to finish it on my 30. read more
So we came here before we went to the Kings game and ordered the jumbo fish, shrimp and chips. It was around $18 for just that but we decided to also get the watermelon juice which was around five dollars. I wanna say personally I wasn't a fan of the watermelon juice, but my boyfriend was he said it was the best thing he's ever had and he hasn't had much in life so that says a lot. The person taking the order is really sweet. She was really attentive and fast. She seems like to be the 1 out 2 people working there so she was on top of things getting orders out fast on time. It usually gets decently busy here but I was able to order without a line. They served the food within 10 minutes and it was steaming hot and fresh. One of the best fish and chips I've had since Santa Barbara. Would definitely come again if I have the chance. The tartar was good and has a nice blend of flavor. They have benches outside for people to sit and eat and also a place to drop off the plate. Would caution people to be aware of their surrounding in this area when eating or walking around. Had some youngins running around looking to cause trouble. read more
This is our first time here and I had the Fish with Shrimp with no fries and it was delicious! There was so much that I couldn't finish all of it! My husband had the Catfish and fries and enjoyed it so much that he finished all of it! It taken take long to prepare considering it was a Friday night. Open on New Year's Day. A very reliable place to eat in Old Sacramento. I love their clam chowder and fish and chips. Both Solid Choices. Eating is outside only on picnic benches. That is the only drawback in the cold winter months and the hot summer months. I'm guessing that is why the Clam Chowder is so popular in the winter, it helps keep you warm. There isn't another choice for this food fare in Old Sacramento, so if you want it you have to brave the elements. It wasn't super cold on New Year's Day so lots of people were braving it. From walking around in back you can hear them call out the customer's name as their orders were ready. read more

This is a good fish and chips shop in Old Sacramento! We were pleasantly surprised by the quality. You order at the window and they call out your number. There are picnic style benches in the patio area where you can sit. For drinks, you get sodas or beer. We got the fish and chips and a 12 oz bowl of clam chowder. We enjoyed both options. I highly recommend trying them out if you are in the Old Sac area and want something casual. read more

Our food was served pretty quick even though there was a big line. The fish and chips combo was tasty. Felt fresh and not refrigerated food. Everything was warm and good. I didn't try the chowder because it has meat but my husband thought it was okay. Would come back! read more

Is there possibly child menu? Asked November 4, 2024?
I didn't notice a kids menu but there is food there that kids like, Corn dogs, french fries, etc... Hope that helps a little.
