I'd give no stars, since I turned right around and left. My purse was slightly longer than their 10x8 rule, and they wanted me to leave it behind their counter, unattended. I explained that it not only contained my money/ID, but also several life saving medications (ones that could be easily stolen and sold illegally), they still wouldn't let me keep ahold of it. Yes, it's entrance is down a dark alley, weird but I did make it out alive, so that's good. The people who work here aren't exactly the friendliest folks. Be prepared to leave your backpack at the front desk in exchange for a tag, don't lose it! Good store for those silly events like an Ugly Sweater or Halloween party. They have *ALL* the accessories you will need. However, I have noticed that an item will be marked $2 and the same exact product right behind it may be marked $3... just be aware! But it is a fun store to visit from time to time! Plus it's easily accessible via #36 Broadway bus or train (Belmont Brown Line stop, 1.5 blocks E). read more

No return policy! Thanks for selling me a shirt with missing buttons. The staff was friendly and the store is a great place to find random vintage clothing. I needed to find an 80's tuxedo shirt for a party and they were the only place that had it. However, it wasn't until I went home that I noticed it was missing buttons. However, I can't go back and ask for a shirt with all buttons. I'm not sure I'll be going back again. This is a terrible policy, or the staff needs to look at your clothes before selling it. read more

I called in advance to ask when this location closes, they told me 8 p.m. I rush to get there, arrive at 7:30 p.m. and the door was already locked. I get that no one wants to work later than they need to, and no one should have to, but if your doors are locked at 7:30 that means you close at 7:30 not 8:00 p.m. It just would have been nice to know so I didnt have to rush over thinking I had at least 20 minutes to run in. read more

It's a lot cheaper than Hollywood Mirror down below, and has a much bigger and better selection than the Wicker Park location. I got two vintage sweaters (one of which must have come directly from Millie's wardrobe from Freaks and Geeks) for $10 each - not that bad at all when you consider the ridiculous markups on vintage items these days. Ragstock was my staple back in 1998-2000 or so. I shopped here very regularly and told my friends about it. I stopped going when the prices started going through the roof and the quality went way down. When a BCBG top is cheaper in Marshall's than a Betty Blue shirt in Ragstock, it's time to move on. My very last visit was when they had a mannequin sitting in front painted in 'Black Face'. I told the cashier & mgr that Blackface is VERY offensive. They told me they didn't care. I went back a month later and the mannequin was still up. I didn't go back. read more

This place is good if you want clothes for a themed party occasion, but it's a bit overpriced. Also, the staff is rude. The girl who checked me out was rude, the girl who checked my bag was rude. It's cramped and messy. The dressing room walls have gum stuck to them, which I accidentally touched. I don't know if that's their aesthetic, but it's gross. You have to pick when you're coming in here and check back often, since obviously the inventory is going to change a lot. I was in around Halloween looking for costume accessories and saw a few things that made me say, hmm, I need to come back and shop for regular clothes. Today I came in for regular clothes and I saw a lot of cool things that would make great Halloween costumes and a lot of stuff that looked like Grandma's closet got raided. There also seemed to be a lot of overstock of flimsy, brightly colored workout type clothes. Stuff to wear every day? eh, not so much. I'll have to try again later. read more

Some new but mostly vintage items. This includes clothing, accessories and what I would call gag gifts/ memorabilia. The vintage items range from cool stuff to let's just look at this and laugh at it. The quality also ranges from poor to good. You will always find some 70s/80s dresses, 80s sequins/ neon and plenty of old styles that are no longer in fashion. Maybe some sort of grade A high achieving hipster could pull off some of this stuff otherwise a lot of it is good for theme parties. Occasionally, you will find some cool men's t-shirts. I did find a cross-body army type canvas bag that I liked for $14.99 but the back did have grease stains on it. I didn't care bc I considered it part of the appeal (worn in look) but I think the price was a tad bit high. I would have preferred to pay ~ $10 for it. I definitely think this place is just fun to look around & if you find a treasure, hey great. At least it was a fun time if you don't. read more

When you want to "create" a Halloween costume, rather than buying one, this is the place to go-- Hawaiian shirts, pleather pants, flannel, goth. You can be whoever you want to be. Largest selection of ugly Christmas sweaters in town! Well, that's what they advertise anyways. This is a really fun place to search through if you have the patience and time. They had a $5 kimono sale when my sis and I were there. It was tempting to buy, but they just reminded me of Alfred Molina's drug dealer character in Boogie Nights, so I took a pass on them. I have to say that Ragstock is probably one of the best thrifting locations in Chicago. From sweaters to tweed suits to funky track jackets, they've got it all. Whenever I stop by I always find something that I like, and the best part is the prices are extremely agreeable. Last year I was in a sport coat/blazer phase for quite some time, and I found some rad camel hair blazers as well as 70's and 80's blazers with some wild patterns. People would always ask where I got my blazers from, and every answer was usually "Ragstock, 5 bucks". Whenever I need some basic clothing like t-shirts, this is my go-to place as well. 4 dollars each for some heather t-shirts in a wide variety of colors. I go thrifting often, and I haven't found a deal like that anywhere else for high quality clothing. The dressing rooms here are really funny though because they definitely constructed them without professional help, and I always feel like I'm changing in a high school locker. My only complaint is for Ragstock to have some stores on the East Coast! I love them otherwise. read more

I've been looking for a fun one stop shop for vintage stuff and new clothes, and this store is just the ticket. This place is great!! They've got a huge selection of basic cotton separates, fun costume stuff and vintage dresses. A cute blond girl helped me navigate the huge selection of vintage dresses. A tall dude with glasses humored me as I kept finding vintage stuff to try on. I will definitely be visiting again, as will my sister, who was visiting from out of town. read more

As with every thrift store, Ragstock is hit or miss. It is in a very trendy (and locationally convenient) part of Chicago. What really sets it apart is its enormous selection and the ability to find things for ridiculously cheap prices. The staff is pretty much useless, which I almost appreciate in comparison to stores where the staff is always in your face. If you are going to go there, make sure you give yourself plenty of time. You could spend all day looking in there. If you do give yourself that time, though, you are certain to find something. Not conducive to casual browsing. read more

Ragstock is the best thrift store I've been too. They have a good mix of old and new...plus it's pretty well organized. For ladies, there's new, modern stuff that's alright. For a casual geeky hipster like myself, this is the place to shop. It had an incredible variety of vintage and thrift finds mixed in with some fun nerdy fashion here and there. I was elated when I found so many retired products from the WeLoveFine website, and gladly grabbed all that I could. I spent only 50$ but made out like a bandit with over 5 shirts, 3 pairs of leggings, and a dress! Came here last week after stopping at micheal's craft store. I used to come here a lot in high school, that was about three years ago. The only thing that's changed is their arrangement; there are more shoes than I remember them having. The employees still think their cool as hell, and still don't say thanks or even a simple "Mhmm" after I say thanks. However, I did find a black levi's Jean jacket in great condition for ten bucks. That's about it. Everything else was too simple, or too expensive (the expensive stuff can easily be found at Forever 21 for way less). The dishes of rings and buttons are pretty cool though. Their clothing is reasonably priced, however, the selection is either a hit or miss. The neon and metallic spandex section is usually a hit and is comparable to the american apparel spandex but a lot cheaper and their sizes usually run a bit on the smaller size. read more

I'm giving four stars on the one item I have bought here. I have never had good luck here as far as things I really want at the price they charge, but I did buy a little black dress with lace overlay that fits me like a dream for $10 two years ago. This is pretty much a chain that you can find only in the Midwest, and even then there aren't too terribly many of them. Ragstock sells new and vintage clothing amongst a few other random things. I bought a really cheap dress there a couple years ago, they have really decent prices on most things. It's on clothes for the most part you'll find the good deals, their accessories like fairy wings which at the Belmont location they used to have a lot of they'll charge you oodles for, the last time I was there a really big pair of them cost about 40 bucks. Not that I was looking to buy or anything, it was just interesting to see. Depending on the location I suppose has to do with how nice the clothes are as well. I've been to one with hardly anything at all of interest, and another where I might have looked at almost every rack. read more

By far the most organized second hand store I have ever been in. Everything is seperated by type. After that it's up to you to find a size and a color, but when you go in looking for something in particular it's nice to have sweaters seperated from button down shirts. There's a lot of brand name stuff, lots of vintage, costumes, wigs, shoes, etc. I didn't feel like I was digging through mounds of crap like at Something Old Something New or looking at the ripped and stained factory rejects at Marshall's and TJ Maxx.
