Took my vehicle in to "Bob's Automotive" to have him install a trailer hitch, and the accompanying wiring harness. First I made sure that he felt he could/would be able to do the install, cause he's not "Uhaul" ya know. Any way. You tube says, 2 hours to install the hitch, 1 hour to install the wiring harness, parts supplier confirms those install times. He, "Raphael" and I, discussed this prior to the install. So, I'm thinking, Okay we are on the same page. I Took the vehicle in at 9:00 am. He calls me at 3:30 in the afternoon to tell me that he can't install the wiring for the trailer, that he needs a circuit protector in order to install it correctly. I was glad that he wanted to make sure it was done correctly. But, why didn't he tell me that at 9:00, when I presented him with all the parts that I had purchased??? Or, even If he would have told me that at around 11:00, 2 hours into the install, I could have called around, located the circuit protector, had my girlfriend drive me to buy it, and bring it to him. Instead he tells me this, at 3:30 in the afternoon. By that time, most of the business day is done. So I tell him, just put the bumper back on, I'll get the part tomorrow, and deal with it then. His labor rate is $105 an hour. I figured 2 hours like we had discussed earlier that morning, thats $210, plus now I've got to bring it in again, once I get the circuit protecter component, and he says the bumper may have to come off again too, for an easier installation. By this time I'm not happy.
I said very nicely. "It would have been nice if he would have called me at around 11:00, that I could have gotten the part and brought it to him". He says, and I quote. "It didn't work out that way", which irritated me, because I thought that was inapproppriate, I thought, where's the customer care, but all I said was, "ok, so how much" thinking $210. He says $250, which irritated me even more. I let him know that I'm thinking that $210 is more than fair at this point, but he's sticking with $250. So I just paid him the $250, and now I'm telling you this story. Sorry but I think he did me wrong, what do you think??? I can tell you this. He'll never work on any of my vehicles again. I always thought he was a nice guy too, but I don't think that so much now. My girlfriend is awesome, cause she's the one that acted like a taxi for me today, plus she also thinks he was unfair. read more
