We tried 7 different flavors and it was so difficult to figure out which flavor to choose. His work is refined and creative. Raffi and his sister have made delicious cakes and petifores for a couple events for me...and everyone goes crazy for them. He always has a free sample for me when I walk in to visit. Once he was a bit behind schedule delivering a cake, so he brought it to my house for the party personally no charge. I have heard his coffee is the best in town. (and there's some darn good coffee in this predominantly Armenian area). His prices are also right and he will negotiate w/you. I am perpetually on a diet, so let's just hope this special neighborhood shop doesn't go away like Doug's awesome bike shop did next door... the only small criticism I have is that his writing atop the cake didn't look very polished or professional...I see by the pictures however that it has either improved or they are having someone else doing it now. I recently had an event and ordered a three tear cake form Rafi's. The cake was really amazing and the crunchy and cream mix in the layers is just to die for. Yes they do give the cakes frozen and they did inform me of that so I had them deliver is early enough so that by the time it was ready to be served, it tasted perfect. Though I do hope that they will eventually hire a good front person so it is not the grumpy old lady or the expression less owner's sister. Rafi is an amazing person. Went there for cake tasting for our engagement party and was very amazed by the taste of the cakes he makes. we went with the pistacho filling and we couldn't have made a better choice. They have the best macaroons ever, particularly the raspberry ones..you should try their eclairs as well. Okay so I tried these macaroon things when a girlfriend of mine brought some over. I've tried THREE times to purchase these at Raffis. My first complaint is...they are always out of them. Um...inventory? Do you not notice a demand for a product? Why not keep track of how much you sell....how short you come up...and bake away? Seriously, 3 times....not once have I been able to purchase them. Oh and all times and days of the week. I've gone during the week, weekend, morning, afternoon. You name it. 2nd- Does anyone work there? The last time (3rd attempt) I went in...stood around for 5 minutes and just said 'f this' and left. It wasn't until I got into my car that some lady came out to the front. Seriously? Running a business or having coffee time in the back room? And I have to agree with the other reviewers....very little selections...which leads me to wonder...how the heck is this place in business? They never have the pastries.....and the ones they do.....no one buys....all 4 variations of them. read more

Stay away!!! This guy is very rude and apparently they have become too full of themselves. He made my brothers cakes a year and a half ago and honestly did a good job so I called the store a week ago to ask if I need an appointment to come and talk about my wedding cake and he told me no just walk in. So My fiancé and I walked in few days ago and he was talking to another customer. He didn't even acknowledge our entrance and didn't even say hi or anything. We waited for 20 minutes and he still didn't say anything. Based on their conversation I figured that they were there on an appointment so I don't know why I was told to just walk in. When the other customer finally left we started taking to him. I showed him a picture of the cake I wanted ( which was very similar to the one my friend ordered from him a year ago) and he quoted me exactly twice as much and what he had charged my friend. When I told him that's how much he had done for my brothers and my friends he said I raise my prices every year and basically it is what is. Then he asked me where my wedding is and then he told me I have to pay $600 for delivery. $600. Really? I haven't heard of furniture delivery for that price. Then I asked him why $600? And he said he charges $10 per mile. Which is still very ridiculous. So I looked up my wedding venues distance from his store was only 29 miles which according to his calculation makes it only $290. When I told him that he was like oh really?? Oh I charge both ways. Really? Have you ever even heard of that? Charge both ways? He is like what do u want my guys to do? Stay there? Honestly to this date I haven't even heard of both way charge for delivery. We just walked out of the store. I don't know why people become too full of themselves when they get busy. I understand if you don't want more business. But you can just be respectful and say you are booked and not to waste propels time or insult their intelligence. Rafi a business with no customer service gets nowhere. You may do good for a little while but people who have a slight respect for themselves will not put up with this. Thank god I found another amazing baker who will do my wedding cake half price of what you estimated me and guess what? They will do my engagement and my bridal shower cake too. And they charge me no delivery fee since I ordered all my cakes from them and on top of it all they were the sweetest people. ( and I have seen their work. They might be even better that you ) So yes you lost my business and whoever knows me. And I will make sure whoever I know never steps a foot in your store. read more

Watch out -- He sent me a wedding cake that was completely different than what I had order!!! My friend's wedding planner said she has witnessed him do that with another bride before. I went there for a tasting for my wedding cake. I tried a few things I kind of liked but asked him to do the fillings a little different. He said ok, so I specified what I wanted and asked him to send me an estimate. He never did and I kept asking my planner for the estimate for months until he finally asked me to go back for another tasting because he wanted to make sure he got it right. Glendale is REALLY far from where I live but I agreed to come in again. I tasted his new filling and really liked it so I ordered a certain type of dough, with uncertain type of filling, etc. and left his shop feeling really excited about my cake. On the day of my wedding, not only the cake looked really bad (bumpy and with bubbles), when we cut the cake I realized it was COMPLETELY different than what I had ordered. The dough was a different type and different flavors, the fillings where totally different (like... I ordered hazzlenut and white cream with red berried and it was chocolate) and it tasted awful. I have no idea why someone would have you come in to 2 tasting to make you a random cake. Specially for something as important as a weeding. I was really disappointed. It was probably the worst wedding cake I ever tasted and I wasted so much time driving all the way to Glendale for the tastings. read more

So I went to Rafi's to purchase their French Macaroons. Terrible, terrible. Paid nearly $11 for 7 of the most stale, old, nearly frozen macaroons ever. I wish I had just tried one instead of wasting my money on 7 of them. The best part is, I walked in and the guy was sitting in the corner. After a minute or two, he stood up and said hello. Wait, what? YOU WORK HERE? I thought he was just a customer. It gets better, so then he asks what I want and I told him the French Macaroons, asked him if they had any. He looked confused and asked what flavor I wanted. I said the red ones....and what else do you have? He sorta then just walked away, I stood there confused. He came back out with a sheet of them, maybe 20 total. His wife handed me a disposable glove and told me to pick which ones I wanted and place them in the box. That should have been my warning to leave. This place survives purely on orders, I just don't see any use for an actual B&M store. read more

Absolutely horrible Do Not Go to him. Terrible customer service. I placed an order for a cake and put a $100 deposit (big mistake do not ever put a deposit). I had a death in the family so I canceled the order more than three weeks before the event. He said he would refund the deposit but never did. Try calling him he is never in. He is just hiding. They are now saying it is non refundable. What a scam. If I knew that I would only put $10 deposit was only a $300 cake. Way over priced too. read more

I cant believe some of the negative reviews I'm reading from people they were probably just having a bad day. Rafi's Pastry is popular for a reason. Rafi was really booked but being the nice person that he is he gave me and my sister an appointment. We showed him pictures of what we had he said he can do anything we want, He showed us pictures of his work on his Ipad but I already knew his work because the past 10 occasions I have been to he was the cake and dessert designer. Long story short I write this review because I have been to his place, Ive ordered from him I have tasted 90% of his pastries cake and mini desserts oh and Macaroons (yumm) and everything was delicious. I'm not even a dessert person and It was sooooo good. Rafi is a creative cake designer he does his best to help you... Basically you cant go wrong with this place.
