We've been in our house for about 6 years and when we moved in we notice the manometer was off but like most people we let it go, then a few months back I started hearing a loud humming noise and thought it had something to do with the radon system but again put it off since frankly I had zero idea who to call. Then last week a search engine pulled up Radon Defense. Linda was super responsive and helpful to guide me since frankly I was clueless. Eric came out today to change out the fan in our attic space and fix the manometer in the basement, he was super nice and my dog of course thought he was there to visit with her (because my dog is a ham). But truly, a great experience he propped up my fan so it wouldn't collect water too so that was a plus and told me yes the fan was going as apparently it gets much louder than what I was hearing. He even labeled the pipe in the basement so it was clear which was for the radon system. Full Review: We just bought a house in Fairfax Station and because the market is so hot, we decided to move fast and do a radon test after settlement. After doing some research, I called Radon Defense for a consultation and test. Even though our levels were low, we decided to put in a mitigation system just to be safe. From start to finish, Radon Defense was exactly what you want from a contractor with this issue. They were easy to get ahold of and communicate with. They were professional and knowledgable and they were able to schedule our mitigation system for installation quickly. They moved so fast that I almost wasn't prepared for it! I expected to have to wait weeks. Not the case. Eric came by this morning first thing and put a mitigation system in without any issues. Came across Radon Defense via the NRPP website. Called to make an appointment. Spoke to some assistant over the phone. Without a in person visit, without any diagnostic testing without any detailed information other than an address I was given a quote. I spoke to the NRPP State Radon Office in Virginia and asked about this fly by night style of Radon estimates and was told that unfortunately now a days it is becoming more of a common practice in a very competitive industry. What a scary thought, that companies give estimates so carelessly for something so serious. Not all companies I contacted are like this. Made sure to confirm with me before making any hikes and worked with me to achieve my location preference given limitations in my basement. Great Company!! Just bought a house and wasn't sure if i needed to have the radon fan replaced. They recommended that I get the EcoQube so i can monitor the radon levels. found out that the radon fan did need to be replaced. Called Radon Defense and they went above and beyond to explain everything that would be done and about how much it would cost. The price of the work was very reasonable. Came out and did great work and replaced the fan and replaced the exhaust pipe with PVC and also installed a outdoor switch to bring the system up to code. The initial reading as a result of the buyer-ordered test was 17.1, well above the EPA limit of 4. I called Radon Defense in a panic when I received the results of a radon test. A third party had placed the radon test in my condo as part of a home inspection prior to closing. Linda answered the phone and immediately put me at ease and said she could have someone there within the hour. Prior to speaking with Radon Defense, I spoke to a handful of other companies who told me they are not licensed to work on multi-dwelling units. As promised, Paul showed up and we did a quick tour of my condo from the outside and then toured the inside of my condo. I explained to Paul that the company who conducted the radon test placed the machine on the floor. Paul was quick to point out that there are EPA guidelines and the test needs to be placed at least 20 inches above the floor. He then inquired on the radon results (my unit tested at 5 pCi/L and the EPA guideline is below 4 pCi/L). We continued to inspect my condo and he suggested sealing the rim of my sump pump and explained the process of how radon can seep into your home. We also discussed the placement and cost estimate if a radon mitigation system would need to be installed. After talking through a few more things, Paul suggested I retest for radon since they improperly placed the device and my levels were just barely over the EPA limit. Radon Defense was willing to test for me for a modest fee, but since the potential buyer paid for the original test, I suggested they have their company test again due to their incompetence. Following the retest, my condo radon results were below the EPA guideline of 4 pCi/L. The simple fact that Paul provided suggestions vs charging me a couple thousand dollars speaks volumes to his integrity. While ultimately I did not need to hire them to install the mitigation system, I would HIGHLY recommend Paul and Radon Defense to anyone looking for testing, mitigation or maintenance! read more

This company is fantastic!! In the process of selling my townhouse it was discovered there was a radon issue. I contacted a number of companies but Radon Defense was the only company that actually came out to my home on the same day I called and inspected the property to determine the work involved before providing me with the cost. I had a very short timeframe in which to resolve the problem before the scheduled closing and was having difficulties getting HOA approval. Radon Defense worked with me every step of the way and adjusted their schedule to meet my needs to ensure I would not have to delay the settlement date. Radon Defense is an AWESOME company and did an excellent job installing my radon mitigation system. Both Troy and Nolan worked quick to get the project done. They took the time to ensure any cracks or crevices in the basement were sealed to ensure that the newly installed system only pulled air from BELOW the basement vice from inside the basement. I really liked the fact that they asked me where I wanted the system installed vice forcing the installation into the sump pump cover area like many companies will try to do (so they can save time). We were offered a low voltage fan which saves power and also a drain pipe equivalent looking vent pipe. This made the pipe look more like the home vice a HUGE round PVC pipe. I am 100 percent satisfied with Radon Defense and the fact that I have a quality radon mitigation system installed. Upon finding out our basement had a radon reading of 3.8, we contacted Radon Defense to install their mitigation system. Nicholas and his team were very friendly and informative, taking the time to explain how their system would be installed and work per the configuration of our home. They explained all the piping options, and we decided to spend just slightly more, well worth it, to have the outside exhaust pipe match our gutter system in both shape and color to blend in better. In just a few short hours Nicholas found the best place in the basement to drill in and install the system. It is totally quiet and unobtrusive.
