I visited for an early lunch and while the doors only open at 12 by the time half 12 came around there were at least 5 tables occupied in the long narrow dining area. I would suggest to book a table if you are hoping to eat at Hadskis post 12:30pm. We were presented with the lunch menu by the attentive staff - there were 6 different choices of meal for £6.50 each but this wasn't basic fare - This was fine cuisine at an unbelievable price. I couldn't choose between what was on the menu so being a glutton I opted for 2 dished form this menu. As Hadskis specialises in seafood I went for the filling Seafood Chowder and the Sardine and caper Caesar salad. In retrospect I should have just gone for the Seafood Chowder as it was extremely filling - although IO 'm glad I got to taste both dishes. My 21st birthday was imminent, and I required an upmarket, fashionably chic eatery for myself and 9 friends. An easy task you may think, but slightly more daunting than I had initially realised. I didn't want an expensive restaurant, nor did I want a McDonald's-esque diner. It had to be accessible, with the likelihood of entertainment, as well as somewhere just a bit different. Easy woman to please, eh? Having heard rave reviews, I settled on Ten Square's Grill Room, and headed out with the girlies for what was to be a brilliant night out. The food was fabulous, the waitress was the most wonderful server I have ever had, their was a DJ playing from 10pm to midnight, and surroundings were just exquisite. Not one word of complaint from me or my friends what-so-ever. The bar is situated right beside the grill room, and our table was smack bang in the middle of the two, which worked excellently for my friends and I, enabling us to boogie on down til the early hours. This may not suit some people, but for me, it was perfect. I could not have asked for a better 21st birthday do.

The family to my left were critical of the food but told the waiters it was 'lovely' on the four occasions I heard them being asked. This also annoyed them. There was also a dispute between them whether to go for a pint to 'Laverys' afterwards. The father clearly wanted to, his wife and daughter were lukewarm & hostile respectively and the son in law or potential in law was too polite to decline. So they unhappily agreed to disagree and went off two by two. When the male waiters (no female wait staff) attended the tables either side of us their elbows were inches from the side of my head with their movements occasionally forcing me move sideways. One waiters' derrière was 2 inches from my butter chicken a few times. Hardly a romantic setting. Once wedged in we got 2 'complimentary' pappadams with 3 dips. I asked for a Nepalese beer only to be told they don't have any so I ended up with an over-priced Singha beer, most likely brewed in Carlsberg's Russian plant that distributes to most of Europe. I imagine if these folk really are Nepalese they'd proudly flog their Khukuri beer and Hinwa and Dadaghare wines. I got the small one at £3.5 which works out at £6 a pint. My wife got a mini bottle of white wine at £4.5 which is £18 a 75 ml bottle. The young waiter who said his only job was serving booze did suggest I'd be able to get some Nepalese beer in London, but I thought it was a tad far to go for a beer at 8pm on a Saturday night in Belfast. It's a well overpriced place, with my paneer cheese starter at £6 when £4 would be fair. My butter chicken main was £13 when a fair price would be £11. They do that deception where meat is cut into cubes to give the impression of plenty, bulked out by copious cheap sauce. The menus don't mention that chemical food colouring is used. I'm not a fan of these food colourings, so I'm disappointed when I see vividly red food being served up. I'm also peeved that the use of chemical colourings is not mentioned on the menu either. My paneer starter had 5 pieces of almost tasteless cheese in a lightish batter, with a smidgen of hot sauce staining the plate, a morsel of lettuce, a sliver of carrot & a cucumber slice. My butter chicken was near scarlet, packed with sugar, with small chunks of equally bright chemically red chicken. My wife had an overpriced chicken pakora starter (3 battered bits should be £2 cheaper) with a similar smear of hot sauce, morsels of carrot, lettuce & cucumber. Her overpriced main (£17) was meant to be a sizzling dish but it wasn't. Not that we minded, as sizzling just means that the very hot iron plate on which the food sits is drizzled with cold cooking oil. Again this main was bulked out with lots of fried onions with some shards of green pepper made to look a generous portion, but there wouldn't have been £3 worth of meat on the plate. The boiled basmati rice was perfectly cooked, the small vegetable curry accompaniment was watery and lukewarm. The nan bread isn't nan bread as it's too thin to be proper nan: so it it's a crisp bread, probably 20p to make the dough turning into a £2 price tag. The service was effusive, nearly as sugary sweet and artificial as the butter chicken but when I know I'm being ripped off I don't tip. We'd paid handsomely for two 'free' pappadams with dips. We were asked at least three times about our food. I said read my review but I guess I wasn't understood. We paid near £53 for a two course meal for two with a small drink each, so it was well overpriced once it went above £40. I suspect it's just another Pakistani restaurant which has come up with the wheeze of Nepalese cuisine and the ancient romantic Kathmandu as devices to overcharge and how. If this is dining in times of austerity I'd hate to see their price structure if we ever see good times. Back to M&S butter chicken - wonderful for a factory made meal and without artificial muck too.

Also, be careful when ordering, as the vegetarian dishes sometimes seem to contain paneer - so if you are vegan you will have to be aware of this and specify no paneer cheese. They offer a 3 course meal for £17.95 and 3 courses for £19.95. All 4 of us ordered the duck pancakes for starters and this was a meal within itself. 6 pancakes were on offer with the duck, cucumber and spring onion presented in a martini glass, whilst this was a little awkward to work around it didn't take away from the gorgeous food on offer. My main was the rump steak (£3 supplement, which can be upgraded to a fillet steak for a further £3 supplement) and came served with 'fat' chips, onion rings and pepper sauce. As someone who 75% of the time orders steak I have to say this is one of if not THE best steak I had and the onion rings were to die for. My companions ordered the smoked haddock which was a special of the evening and the rack of lamb and everyone commented on how gorgeous their meal was, I don't think there was an unhappy customer or an unclean plate. The restaurant itself is quite dark and opulent with black painted walls and blue lighting in theme with the restaurant name, in fact you could forget what time of day it is as you are so cocooned within it. When we were there at 5.30-7pm we were the only ones in the restaurant which makes me think is this hidden gem just too hidden, I hope not as its too good to disappear as the restaurant that was! I called in last night for dinner after my sister Caroline S and I had purchased wine and gone to Ambrosia restaurant only to find they are no longer BYOB and sadly are now fully licensed. Thus we immediately left and went in search of another BYOB place. Graffitti appealed to us so we popped in and got a table. Although Graffitti don't have a separate vegetarian menu they offer a couple of vegetarian starters and mains. Soup or arancini being the starter choices and gnocchi or roast Mediterranean vegetable lasagna from the specials board being the mains. The menu changes frequently so in a few weeks there'll be different veggie options. We opted for arancini, side salads and gnocchi. The food was fabulous. So tasty, rich, delicious and fresh. Corkage is £2 per bottle and the service from the waitresses lovely. We finished our food and sat on drinking our wine, enjoying the homely atmosphere, relaxing background music and quirky decor of Graffitti. Tempted by the luscious desert menu (I very nearly succumbed to that Banoffee!) we ordered a couple of Irish Coffees which were luscious. Our bill was circa £40 which we thought excellent value for such quality food. We will be back very soon as Graffitti, who are a popular daytime cafe, open late each Friday and Saturday night for BYOB delicious evening dinners. A proper little gem!

Cosy and friendly, you will get one of the best breakfasts on the block and the staff are so lovely they'll never judge you for having a Coke and a pot of tea with your fry. They know the score. ;-) There is always a good mix of customers from suits to students with a good buzz, the reason for which is the quality, homely food at really good prices. We've even ventured in after dark with a couple of bottles of wine (it is BYO) and the burgers were beautiful in the candlelight. Considering there is a good deal of competition in the area, the fact that this place continues to pack them in every week after 26 years says it all. In fact, I'm getting pretty hungry just thinking about it...joy.
