A fierce craving for my motherland food, Gujarati (vegetarian), which I don't get nearly enough of these days. Went in with super high expectations, which I shoulda curbed given I can't eat spicy food anymore, and Gujarati food is generally not considered "spicy," not compared to South Indian stuff. Gujarati having more of a sweet end palate leaning. We got their thali's which OMG was overflowing with yummy things, e.g. kichdi and curry (not the Northern Indian kind), but more like the yogurt based, with two large puri's and channa with oondiyoo, which is a delicacy because of the layered ingredients, e.g. sweet potatoes and eggplant with broad beans and yellow lentils. They included a doula, the consistency the stuff of dreams, light and airy, spongy texture, and tangy with yogurt. We also got pani puri and dahi papdi chaat, the latter two chaats were solid as was the thali ... and my husband what a treat it was to see him enjoy everything so thoroughly. If you have colitis and are at all sensitive to spices, though on the scale of things, this was objectively not spicy, it was not edible for me. A little backstory: On Tuesday mornings, I dance Bollywood with a lovely group. We had petitioned for another class, as our instructor could no longer continue to teach that class and were granted a standing spot for Friday evenings at 7:30pm. Following our first Bolly dance, a large group of us visited this new location for a bite to eat. They were closing in approximately 30 minutes, and graciously served us. They had an abundance of staff taking care of our needs, free chai, and allowed us to stay past their open time. I ordered the masala poori bhaji, and it came quickly and piping hot. We let them know that we were a group that would be regularly meeting, and they didn't seem intimated by our volume or the late hour- so much so that they brought us two complimentary desserts to entice us to return! We ordered paani-poori, aloo Tikku with chhole, masala poori with sookhi aloo ki sabzi and chana saag. Chana saag was little too salty and the paani-poori water was stale. The paani pooris were so small that it seemed that the restaurant wants to cut corners to save on them but have a wrong approach. I wonder why Indian restaurants do not serve their customers nicely. Radhe Chaat has become my new favorite. Their makke ki roti with sarsoon Ka saag is my favorite and their spinach paneer paratha is also delicious. The food is fresh and served hot. The people there are so nice. It is one of the few places where they come and check on you asking if everything is okay. They have some learning to do......one one of my visits they brought the roti much before they served the sabji that went with it and by the time the sabji arrived, the roti was cold and not soft anymore. They need to make sure that items that go together would be served together. Aviance is okay but I always prefer eating at the restaurant rather than take out so I always eat there itself. Plus there is the incentive of complimentary masala tea when you eat there. Their tea is so good, I often end up buying a separate cup. My friend tried the gobi paratha and said that was good too and not too oily. Food is good. However, they use STAPLES on the food packaging. The brown paper bags are closed with staples. If you don't open it very carefully, the staples could fall into the food, and if you eat it, cause a tear in your stomach or intestines. Very shocked about this.
