We had a radon mitigation system installed on Monday. On Wednesday, I went back to the house on Wednesday to do the follow-up radon test. The mitigation system was beeping and indicating it needed service. Obviously I didn't want to start and waste the test if it turns out the system wasn't working and needed service. I tried calling a few times and eventually spoke to someone. I wasted two hours in an empty house because I was told they were just waiting for one of their "experts" to be free to speak with me about why a two-day-old system needed service. I was assured they'd call back soon once someone was free, so I waited around, had some dinner delivered because I didn't want to go home just to have to drive all the way back, and waited some more. I kept calling back every 30 minutes until finally I was told that everyone had gone home for the day. I got a call this morning and now I understand why they didn't want to call last night. It would have taken them an entire 20 seconds to explain that the system is fine and that I can start the test. Who has time for that? It's the end of the day. People want to go home. You don't want to put in an extra 20 seconds, I get that. But I also don't want to put an extra two hours at the end of MY work day, waiting in a cold, empty house for a phone call I was assured was coming soon. Over 12 hours later is not "soon." Turns out the guys who installed it just forgot to follow what I have been assured are "very simple steps that take about 30 seconds" and that this is a common occurrence. It's too much to expect that the guys we just paid well over the quoted prices to actually follow those steps that take 30 seconds. Two hours and thirty dollars wasted waiting just to be told this could've been prevented by the installers doing the final steps of the installation or by at least giving me a call back. They could have just said at the beginning that no one would be available and that I should try again the next day. At least that might have salvaged my evening and a couple stars on this review. They get two stars because I suppose the system is technically installed and because, contrary to what the system says, it is apparently working. I have been assured that the system is ok, but I'm not too sure I trust their assurances all that much. read more

Just listen to reviews and don't use them I have clumps of clay post-softener that I have to remove from the main filter monthly. Any competent company would have installed a sediment filter pre-softener for well water with this much sediment in it. The softeners are useless they can't battle it all I never did plumbing in my life and I can see how bad this company is read more

I was honestly floored to find all the bad reviews here after RA Data came in to install a water softener at my home. From start to finish, RA Data accommodated my schedule and needs, got the job done, and made sure I was comfortable with what was happening, how it was happening, and what to expect when it was done. My experience started with Dan, who heard my needs, worked up quotes for me, and didn't get annoyed when I inevitably had to call back a couple times with questions. Awesome. They were able to schedule me 2 weeks out (which in my experience is super quick given how booked contractors are). The day of, Ted, our tech, arrives and walks me through the whole project, involves me in making decisions about placement and installation of the equipment, and stopped to see if I had questions before and after the work was completed. He was courteous of being in my home, was careful not to let our pet out, and cleaned up the work area perfectly before bringing me down to review the work. There were no surprise fees, upcharges, or excuses as to why something couldn't get done halfway into the job. I paid the price that was communicated to me upfront and now my water is soft and I am happy. I recommend these guys for both water treatment and radon mitigation. Just keep in mind that at the end of the day, the techs are contractors and for service calls, charge hourly. These people are incompetent. They ruin their own tests, resulting in results that they said they couldn't use. They then proceed to charge me $55 to retest and tell me they would discount it to $25. THE FIRST TEST THEY SCREWED UP WAS ONLY $18. On top of this, the employee there was extremely rude. When I said I'd leave a bad review, he refused to sell the test to me. Radata is a dishonest company. They knowingly sold me and installed a faulty radon fan. Learn from my mistake and go with another company

I don't know where to begin. Bought a house in Fredon NJ in 2018. Water was tested by RAData and was deemed unsafe to drink. They recommended a whole house filter with water softener, ph neutralizer and UV light to kill bacteria. Lived in house for 3 months and water softener never used and salt that was in system. They came out and serviced the system and said since it wasn't programmed correctly there would be no charge for service call. After 1 year system needs annual maintenance. Filter and change uv light tube. Parts total approximately $108, $95 for bulb and $13 for filter. What they charged for 12 minutes of "work"??? $485! Just wow! A few months later my system's "UV solenoid" shut down my whole house waters supply while my wife was in the shower at 5:40am. Called company at 8am when they opened they told me how to buy pass the solenoid to get water back on. Had no service appointments for 4 days after system shutdown and was told to "not drink" water because there might be bacteria in it if light is not working correctly. Show up on 4th day and " not sure why it shut off " " might be bubbles in line from well". Geez man, what you mean you don't know what happened??? Is my water safe to drink or not!? I could go on...but all save some for another review, my advice, STAY AWAY! read more

I originally gave this company 5 Stars but after using the water mitigation system its definitely changed. Its constantly not working and I've had them out 4 times and got charged twice to fix the same part. I think the biggest reason you shouldn't use this company is that they have no accountability. While they were "fixing" my water system I gave the workers specific instructions not allow the dog in the room and lock the door. The dog was let in and proceeded to eat rat poison. The dog is ok but I've reached out to John and Luke and they refuse to take responsibility. Don't let these people in your home because they wont take responsibility and they will refuse to show you there Certificate of insurance. I had to call 4 times and they refuse to show any liability insurance. John had Luke call me to negotiate the vet bill and wanted me to sign waiver. They take advantage of you if you are a woman! I had my water softener and neutralizer serviced with RA Data. The technician was on time and friendly. He filled the neutralizer and reset the time like I requested. He was also scheduled to service all 3 of my units. He told me "They are all serviced. They look great. You are taking good care of them. " After he left we were still experiencing low water pressure. The next week we had our well water holding tank replaced. We thought that was the issue and it was old & failing. We still had low pressure. We by passed the water softener and neutralizer and we had full pressure. The water softener and neutralizer was NEVER serviced! I was told and paid for that. I called the company and talked to the manager. He dismissed this was a possibility after explaining the situation. He said "It's probably a clog somewhere else in the pies." I scheduled another appointment when my husband was home. I stayed upstairs and had my husband handle everything. What do you know there was a clog with one of the softeners. It was NOT SERVICED! So I got taken advantage of bc I was a woman home without my husband. read more

Used this company to install our mitigation system almost 8 years ago. Had it serviced recently after RAData changed the originally scheduled appointment date on us. Paid just shy of $800 for the work that was done, which included a post-service test kit. Followed the instructions to the letter. Sent the test kit back on a Thursday expecting next day, max 2-day delivery so it would be returned within the 5-day window. Received test results yesterday that the test was INVALID due to postal delivery delays. After 8 years of being a customer, the amount of money spent in the past and recently to resolve a prior unresolved issue that a replacement kit would be provided free of charge. NOPE. To quote: "we're not responsible for poor service of the post office" but "we can offer you another kit at a discount." Thanks, Dan, for enlightening me that there are actually multiple companies that provide this service in our area so I'm no longer stuck with RAData. I just wanted to do a follow-up as it is now 7 months after they installed the Radon system and after their install I put in an electronic radon monitoring detector to track and average the radon levels. Prior to their job my basement was over 6.5. Since their installation the Radon has ranged over the last 7 months between 0.25 and 0.37. Very low. Met and exceeded expectations. read more

I got no email invitation to review from the service you're talking about, I actively sought out a review because of how infuriated I was that you tried to scam us. This review occurs twice from 2 separate people (Kushtrim Morina & Gina Cullari) "Very smooth transaction from start to finish. I had no idea how involved it was, but they explained everything to me. They did a fantastic job, so neat and clean! Highly recommend!" That is just one example... Secondly I'm laughing because you completely ignored the fact that I brought up we already have a radon treatment system that you all installed that takes gross alpha out of our water. Thirdly we didn't even need to get a treatment system, you all made it look like the situation was dangerous and dire and tried to scare us into getting one of your treatment systems. Beware...if your water fails the new pfos and pfoa test, the state of nj will install a whole house system at no cost and if you keep your receipts for bottled water they will reimburse you for that as well. This company will over charge you fir installation and testing, and will not tell you the state of nj does it for free. Avoid this company. We bought a house 7 months ago that had a Radata system. It started beeping, so we called for service. We spoke with the manager, Lisa, for a service quote, who described their service as the following: $175 for a service call, $40 for a lead test, and $40 for something else. Also, if the technician is there longer than one hour, it will be $150 an hour pro-rated per 15 minute increments. I explained that I have had the lead tested twice since I bought the house, once at closing and once again last month, so I dont need the lead test. She told me that its not an option and I have to pay for it... then why give it to me as an option? Just say your service is $215. Oh I cant drop the other service, so its $255. Why do you price it out if I dont have any option to cut these services? And then you want to charge me an hourly rate if your technician is unable to do his job in the allotted time? How is that my fault as the system owner? read more

When I chose Radata I will admit that I did not do my usual research because of the time and pressures of selling/buying a home, and all the expenses involved. I chose them because of their "lowest price" ad. Once again, you get what you pay for. They tested my well and failed it on 2 primary parameters and one secondary. I got a notice about one parameter (a sample that only failed on raw, not treated water) almost immediately and I also got a call from them about remediation. My lawyer had advised that certain parameters had to fail at the tap, not the raw water, so I called him and he assured me that I didn't need remediation at that time and their offer of a service wasn't absolutely necessary. Needless to say, this annoyed me. I also felt put off by the immediate recommendation to have work done when all the results weren't in. (I have had my well tested many times over the years and the companies I dealt with always sent me the results together.) A few days later I got the full results and another recommendation for service. Ultimately, I got at least three phone calls and two e mails from different representatives telling me that I needed service. Not only do I not respond well to hard sell, I felt that having the company that tested the water also do remediation was somewhat of a conflict of interest. I wrote them a two sentence letter in which I stated that I felt it was a conflict of interest and would not use them for remediation. The note was nothing personal, just my take on doing business. I got an insulting e mail stating - and I quote - "Normally people who have that assumption are as untrustworthy as they appear others to be". Really? Because I feel it is a conflict of interest I'm "untrustworthy"? It seems that a customer who has paid someone in full does not deserve to have their trustworthiness called into question under any circumstances. Needless to say, insulting a customer in that manner is bad business without any question whatsoever. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. read more

Please allow me to address the salient points: "... we did not install the system and we do not guarantee radon levels at service call" ---- customers beware that other radon companies do guarantee lowering radon level. As in the case with Benedict (owner) at Radon Shield LLC in Trenton, NJ, the guarantee is written in the contract. "... the gentleman (John) who came to your house for the no charge follow up evaluation ..." ----- customers, that is the point of getting the radon level guaranteed, which means that the guarantor will have to come back at no charge until (s)he lowers the radon to the level as specified per your contract. "... the first step would be changing the fan, and the Rn4 fan unit is a new and powerful fan." ----- customers, beware of the $400+ Fantech Rn4EC-4 fan that RAdata stands by. If you look at the performance profile, even operating at 100% fan speed, the fan can only move a max 320 cubic feet per minute (CFM) at 0.2 inches of water column of static pressure = value on the u-tube manometer and drops down to a mere 39 cubic feet per minute at 4.5 inches of water column of static pressure. Since there is no performance measured at 100% fan speed at 2 inches of water column (the u-tube manometer static pressure for me), one can guess-timate that the CFM is likely around 180 at best. Benedict at Radon Shield LLC installed a cheaper fan at $350 that can move 327 cubic feet per minute at 2 inches of water column. "Please note that you declined to allow the technician to seal the remainder of the open French drain as recommended in the utility room..." ----- the fact is that I was the one who asked your tech if the French drains have to be sealed and he said that it was up to me and that it does not make much of a difference "... your u-tube is an older model and the single information sticker is faded and cracking but the new u-tubes have a better scale which measures in increments of 1/10"...." ------ the fact is that the tech never conveyed the quoted information to me. All he said to me about changing the u-tube manometer if the color fades. "... When you called to cancel your upcoming appointment for the ERV installation, we did offer for you to speak to a supervisor or the individual who came to your home and recommended the ERV, and you immediately declined.... I have also spoken with John about the 4" system and it was proposed to add an additional 4" system (possibly extending it to the center area if needed)..." ----- Here is the fact. I spoke to john on 4/19/21 about my reservations with the ERV at which point John proposed a second mitigation system with the 4" PVC. However, I asked him why he thinks that the second mitigation will work if he recommends installing it right next to the current mitigation system, which we already know from the air flow test that there is air flow. The wall farthest from the current mitigation system has no air flow and I asked how this new 4" system will move air where there is no air flow if the plan is to install the new system right adjacent to the current system. On 4/26/21, I emailed both you (Ashley) and John that we have decided to go with the second mitigation system. I asked about who would be installing the second system and why John thinks that the new 4" PVC will work. You did not respond. John replied on 4/27/21 and said that he will send the new proposal for the second system and that he is happy to chat about the system. There was no follow up phone call. On 4/28/21, I emailed John again to ask him why the new 4" PVC will work to which he replied "I believe I will reach the dead zone due to size of pipe and amount of air flow we will produce." I did not immediately declined to speak with a supervisor as you have stated. To the contrary, I have emailed you and John multiple times asking about the new 4" PVC and since I did not get much of an explanation, I think that it is time to terminate our business transaction. Edit: As of 5/11/21, my charcoal tested radon levels are 0.5 and 0.6 pCi/L with Benedict's (at Radon Shield LLC) help. read more

They came and took samples from directly at the well before the water treatment system and at the kitchen sink after the water treatment system. They did not test the treated water so the results are useless to me. When I called to find out why they didn't test the treated water, they told me they had no idea I had a water treatment system - there was no way to know and nobody told them. I figured when I noted it on my request and when they kneeled next to it to take a sample it would have set off a light bulb for a company that sells this equipment. They have had no interest in making this right or even returning my calls. Don't trust a company this unprofessional. read more

If I could give them zero star i would. Had them test my well prior to a sale of a home. They found Coliform and stated it can't be treated with chlorine, you need to but a $1400+ UV filter, and guess what, they sell and install them. I have never heard anyone say you can't treat a well with chlorine. As others have said it's a serious conflict of interest, which they should have disclosed, before doing the test. To make matters worse, and unbelievably, they had a phone discussion with my buyer telling them that the only thing to be done is to install this system they sell or the water would never be safe. Radata did the installation for a radon mitigation system after we find out the test was 12.4 My reply to Sam after 2 weeks from the installation. We are very happy with the service that was provided and the test was @ 0.02. I did the same test from first alert that we did the first time because I want it to make sure that test was accurate and we want it to compare the results, 12.4 was the final on first test. Yesterday we received the email to compared from first Alert, we use both tests next to each other and we run same exact hours and the First Alert test came with same as from Radata 0.02. I ordered a well test for drinkability. The guy collecting the sample wanted to see my tank and setup. I showed it to him and then asked him why he needed to see it. He said he was just curious. He takes a water sample, and the results come back with a contaminant along with a proposal for thousands of dollars of treatment equipment. I became suspicious of a conflict of interest - especially since the water collection guy wanted to see my tank. In retrospect - it was obviously for him to see if i already had any water treatment equipment installed (which i didn't). So i ordered a new test from a different reputable company and the test came back clean. When I asked them if they sell treatment equipment, they replied "of course not - that would be a conflict of interest for the company testing water to also sell treatment equipment". I wrote them an email about this and its now two weeks with no response. Be careful with this company - and find one that does not sell expensive treatment options for the very contaminants they are supposed to be testing for. Not very good support after they have your money. RAData installed a radon removal system in my home about 3 1/2 years ago. After 3 years the fan died. It was still under warranty. RAData said they'd replace the fan for $180 (for labor, fan was free). After several phone conversations with RAData, they agreed to give me a free replacement fan but I needed to install it myself. When I brought the old fan to their offices in Flanders, NJ, they refused to honor their agreement and would not provide me with a replacement fan. I ended up returning the fan to the manufacturer for a "free" ($20 for shipping) replacement fan. read more

This company is a scam. The entire process is designed to screw the customer and take advantage of the fact that customers are desperate to get work completed in order to close. I was quoted a rate of $1450 for radon remediation work which quickly swelled to over $3000 when I was charged an extra $1300 to 'excavate' a sump hole an additional inch or two. It is even debatable whether the sump hole needed to be enlarged at all. But - once they are at your house they have you by the proverbial balls and they sure take advantage of it. They even tried to get me to sign another document pre-authorizing them to perform even more work when they went out to do their $1300 excavation. Complete scam. Be very careful - they will screw you once they get into your house. That is their modus operandi for sure. read more

DO NOT USE! RaData installed a radon mitigation system in my house. 1 year later it stopped working. They came and it turned out to be the wiring was corroded. They never sealed the exterior electrical box. It was something they forgot to do and they still charged me $190.00. When I called to complain I got the run around. I had a yearly service done for our well water system. It was such a bad experience that I had to write a review for the first time-ever! The reasons I am not happy with the experience are: -The rep originally quoted around $400 for the service and the final cost moved to about $718. The rep did not mentioned that the base service for labor is for the first 30 minutes only and all additional time would be charged separately. -Also there is a $150 charge is for replacing the UV lamp system. And the tech did not change the sleeve, because it looked OK? But I was still charged for it. -And the tech did take his time. He came to house with a small bucket and couple of filters and went back to his van many times, which did contribute to the extra time spent during service. -And here is the last thing that was really annoying:The tech got only 3 bottles of samples- one of which was included with UV lamp system. And I received a call from the Radata 3 months after the service that I owed them another $48, for an additional test done and tech did not charged at the time of service, and for that reason they did not send me the test results. I paid the additional $48 on top of the $671 which brought the cost up to $719. All for the services of: 2 bags of salt-3 filter change- 1 UV lamp change- 3 small bottles of water to be tested.Oh... and also rinsing of the salt tank- which took tech about 10 minutes. If I was quoted for this in the beginning, it would be another thing, I would seek for the services elsewhere. But a price jump from 400 to 700 is unprecedented for my experiences. All in all, their pricing structure is shady and I will not ask for their services again. read more

I would give them no stars if I could. Before we bought our house in 2010, the home inspector told the old owner they needed a Radon System in order to sell their home. RAData unfortunately improperly replaced the sump pump that had a 30' hose that pointed to the street with their own and capped the sump pump with a huge protruding lid rather putting in a proper inset lid with a drain for a floating slab basement. Their excuse is that they only carry one kind of lid. So we had them install a drainger in the floor that they never connected to the channel around the floating basement that I didn't want. It also stood up 1/4" out of the cement floor and he charged my wife $80. To fix this, I asked them to come out modify their "not so floating slab basement friendly sealed lid" that lets any water in the sump from above & install a drainger in the lid and take out the old drainger out of the floor. Their amateur hack worker nailed 2 Pine 2x4's in the concrete to hold a piece of plywood with a drainger in it. Pine rots when exposed to water and moisture, anyone who is experienced in buying wood knows that. They charged me $390 for a crappy job. I called and his supervisor right after he left and the supervisor had to come out & fix his mistake. He gave me a hard time about fixing or taking out the $80 drainger that was sticking out of the floor. He chiseled it with his power tool to make the lip of the hole lower instead of filling it with concrete to the way it was. He had an attitude and snarky when he was done by saying, happy now? A year later, we had an issue during hurricane Irene. When the pump was installed before we bought our home from them, it was never tested. It had not run all year because of a lack of excessive water. The water pumped out OK, but the pipe going out of the house is sloped upward where the water is staying in the pipe exposed to the elements outside. Water was leaking in the basement from the gasket on that pipe & that is how I noticed. Water as soon as it was pumped outside was coming back into the basement just feet away near footer at the same time the pump was active. On, May 2, 2012, I called the owner and insulted to me over the phone with his snarky condescending tone after I drew them a professional looking diagram of the problem and how it should be fixed, he called it a silly drawing and said the whole office had a good laugh when passed around. Stupid Jackass! The owner believes a 20 inch long pipe coming out of our foundation sloped upward and pointing at our neighbors house instead of the street is standard, meanwhile the NJ EPA says nothing about restoring to what you disturb, but because of the lapse in code any company has to go to National EPA Standards instead, which says if a company disturbs other functions of the house like a sump pump with piping to install a Radon System, they have to put the other functions back to the way it was. They didn't!!! The pipe should have been 20+ feet away from the house and not 20 inches they call standard. They want the customer to pay for their mistakes and take advantage of first time home buyers like us who didn't pick them to do the Radon System, the old owner took care of that. RAData refuses to come back anymore if any of their parts fail. I corrected their problem with connecting the 2" pipe out of the foundation to a drain pipe I installed underground to my downspouts and had Professional Plumbing and Heating fix their improperly pitched pipe out of my wall to slope downward out of my house. I recently decided that I wanted to have a Radon remediation system installed in my home. I called three businesses to obtain quotes and to determine the competency of the service provider. RAdata won my vote of confidence immediately. Their quote was clear and competitive and I was billed exactly what I was quoted. We contracted (approx. $4000) four tests/mitigations to RAData in May,June & July 2017: Radon and Water Tests; Radon Mitigation and Water Mitigation. Several avoidable problems occurred. June 23rd I called RAData and asked that a copy of the permits be emailed to our lawyer (per our contract with the buyer). I followed the call with an email to the same RAData woman. An electrician was not scheduled for the Radon Mitigation June 29th. He couldn't be rescheduled until July 7th. The radon technician warned us about the possibility of add'l electrical work-we immediately told him there was room in the electrical box. NO PERMITS WERE EVEN APPLIED FOR UNTIL AFTER THE WORK WAS COMPLETED - and no payment was included to the township when the applications were mailed. As a consequence the township could not schedule inspections and we were forced to delay our closing, costing us add'l money. * I was told RAData couldn't enclose the payment because she didn't know the cost - but 1 phone call BEFORE contracting with RAData gave me that information. Despite talking with the technician about the electrical box beforehand, the electrician (after sitting in his truck on his cell phone for at least half of the time at our property) put in the more expensive (+$250) outlet - never talking to my husband who was there the entire time! The tests and two remediations were completed and work done well - but the frustrations and delays caused by improper scheduling and not applying for permits (that RAData had already received payment for) could have been avoided. July 16th we mailed a letter to the company president David Grammer detailing the many problems - and resent it the end of August when there was absolutely no response by telephone, mail or email. We would not recommend RAData as a result of the numerous problems associated with their work. read more

Due to miscommunication, we experienced a billing discrepancy with the installation costs for our sump pump. In an email a price was quoted with no mention of a service charge. When I called to make an appointment for installation I mentioned the email I received and I believe it was assumed that it was a written proposal for the installation and that I had received it and agreed to it. The sump pump was installed and we were surprised to have been charged a service fee since one was never mentioned either in the email or when we scheduled our installation. I immediately contacted Blair Miers with whom I had my initial contact. He advised me to address the issue in writing; I did; and followed up with him. He referred the issue to the appropriate departments on my behalf. We were pleased that RAdata acknowledged the miscommunication and refunded our charge. We received several emails including one from the President of the company , David Grammer, For us that level of integrity and interest in customer satisfaction goes a long way in showing a true desire by the company to correct the error and ensure their company's good reputation. read more
