Rack Solid not only had exactly what I wanted (Apex 5 hitch bike rack + Thule fit kit for my factory tracks + bars that could fit 2 rocket boxes) but they gave a fair price. Nick & Mario were super helpful with my yakima space case, which had gotten jammed shut from stuffing too much camping stuff in it. They removed the rivets, i got my stuff out, & then they re-riveted it, and it works fine again, all for $10- thats downright awesome!!!! If you are looking for a roof rack or box, this is the place to go. Wide selection of items on hand but more importantly, the staff is knowledgeable about the different products (I had previously gone a larger chain and I am pretty sure I knew more than the sales assistant). Spent probably 20-25 minutes at Rack Solid discussing the situation that I was trying to find a solution to and they gave me pros and cons of different roof boxes. I want to reinforce what many previous reviews have said about competence and customer service at Rack Solid. Previously I had purchased a roof rack system from my auto dealer. I purchased another kayak that will be difficult to load alone. I purchased a Thule Hullavator to assist with loading and unloading. Unfortunately, the Hullavator would not fit the current cross bars. Bit the bullet and bought new cross bars. Now, the roof top box would not fit the new cross bars. The guys at Rack Solid came up with an innovative way to re-fit the roof top carrier saving me loads of money and time. I really appreciate their focus on providing a good solution for the customer rather than just wanting to sell more equipment. This is a rare event these days. I truly appreciate the honesty from the staff and certainly plan to use them again whenever I need any roof rack equipment. read more

These guys were great! We purchased a Thule cargo box from a retailer in the mountains this last spring (not from Rack Solid). On a camping trip over the summer we had a mishap with a lock failure on I-280 that left all of the author's clothes and the family camping gear all over the freeway. The box locking mechanisms were destroyed and the box had to be replaced. Not expecting too much, I contacted Thule who recommended I have the box inspected by Rack Solid. Again, I wasn't sure what Rack Solid could do with the broken box that I purchased elsewhere, but I was pleasantly surprised. Ariel at Rack Solid took pictures and reported the results to Thule. Ariel was fast, helpful and his assistance resulted in Thule shipping a replacement box within a week of taking the broken one in. Even after going out of his way to help with the new box, Ariel took the broken box off my hands and disposed of it. I have to commend Ariel, Rack Solid and Thule for one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. They were responsive, helpful and courteous. I highly recommend that anyone looking for rooftop rack or cargo box solutions put these guys at the top of the list. read more

These guys are pros and super nice. My car had to be the one model that wouldn't take anything remotely standard and after 3 shops we ended here. The bike rack we had to get wasn't cheap but they helped install and test with real bikes, ensured we got the additional bar that would secure smaller bikes, gave a small discount even. These guys are awesome! They accomodated me same day for a Volvo load carrier and ski rack installation. They made sense of the vague Volvo install instructions and discovered that Volvo didn't ship me all the parts I needed to get the ski rack attached to the load carrier. They only charged me half the quoted price because of this, despite working through the ski rack instructions and attempting the ski rack install. They took the time to show me which adapter parts were missing/needed and why. Great service, honest business practice, and super helpful. I'll be back! read more

DOES NOT STAND BEHIND WEBSITE PRICES: I was searching online for a specific bike rack (INNO Fork Lock System) when I came across Rack Solid. They had the rack I wanted at a great price!!! As I went to order I noticed that the model number differed from the others that I had been looking for, although the product image and description matched. I called and spoke to a rep in store to verify I would be receiving the correct item and explained the situation I had found. After looking into it stated that their was an issue and we would get back with me. After speaking with his manager, Nick, he said it was posted wrong and the actual bike rack was 3 times the price advertised! I asked if I was able to buy it at the advertised price, (keep in mind I only wanted 1), beings it was their mistake and I did take the time to save them some headache in the future by making them aware of the issue. He said I could buy it at 20% off plus shipping charges since I live in KY. Oh thanks, what a way to say thank you for possibly 100s of dollars of issues in future purchases from other customers seeing exactly what I'm seeing but not catching the error. I decided to speak with Nick myself and go through the issue. He to told me I could buy it 20% off plus shipping. When I expressed that I was not happy and expected that a company with so many competitors would work at delivering a higher level of customer service and should honor their mistake, I was told that he's not in the business of selling items below cost and that if i didn't want it at 20% off I could take my business elsewhere!!! WOW!!! I do not wright reviews, EVER, this is my first one, but being a store manager of a big box retailer for over 10 years this is the absolute worst customers service I have ever received. I will be taking my business elsewhere and giving my hard earned money to a business that appreciates their customers. As for Rack Solid thats the first and last time I try to do business you. I was visiting from out of town recently and I needed a replacement part for my daughter's Bob running stroller. I called Rack Solid to try and describe the part even though I didn't know the name of the clip I needed to replace. I spoke to Morgan who was very patient and helpful and he told me to come into the store and he was sure he'd be able to find something. When I went in he pulled out a whole box of straps and clips and we found one immediately. He didn't charge me anything for the part. Just had a Thule ThruRide back rack installed by the guys at Rack Solid. Without going into the details, I had a less than stellar experience at REI with this - although I will give them credit for trying (and I continue to be a big fan of REI). Anyway, Rack Solid cleaned up the mess that REI made and were courteous, informative, flexible and very understanding. They were also generous and constructive on pricing. I live in Noe Valley so it was a trek to get there and back a few times, but I can't recommend Rack Solid highly enough. I only wish there were more installations I needed so I could go back. You won't find a place with better knowledge or stock. [The Tap Room next door is also a solid place to have a beer while you wait - it's the old Zeke's and the guys there are great too]. read more

Expensive, poor workmanship, TERRIBLE customer service, rude cashiers, poor product knowledge... But what really got me is that they lied when I asked if they were cheaper than REI! I shouldn't have trusted them I guess. Turns out REI is cheaper plus you get a 10% back if you're a member. That would've saved me $210!! So when I went to return my rack system they charged me a 15% restocking fee even though I hadn't opened any of it and had only had it one evening. I couldn't believe it when the smug 18-yr-old-looking salesperson actually refused to listen to my case and all but flipped me off on the way out the door for inconveniencing him so much apparently. I would say it was just the one employee but there are three I'm thinking of. Plus they have a tendency to shut down early if they're having a "slow day" or if they have plans that evening or for whatever reason and the owner is never even in the country. Apparently he's the only one with the authority to make any decisions so that's its own world of frustration. All in all I've never had such a terrible experience at any store ever. This is my first ever yelp review, I just couldn't let them get away with it without trying to do SOMETHING! Plus they managed to get hundreds of dollars out of me for a restocking fee and they didn't have to do anything for it. That's really frustrating especially since it's their fault. read more

I ordered a rack from Kuat and it didn't come with all the parts. These guys kindly pulled the missing parts from another of their kits, to help me recover from Kuat's packaging mistake. In the process I got an in depth perspective of quite how much detail they know about every product they carry. First of all let me premise this review, I didn't even have a yelp account because I'm not some douchebag that likes to write reviews that negatively impact small businesses but I had to create one in order to highlight the unprecedented decline in service at this particular establishment. I've been a long time client of Rack Solid, I knew John and Nick when they opened this place. I've always had the utmost respect for the operation those guys were running, so it pains me to have to write this awful review. I was very sad to see the Former owner Nick leave, he had an amazing crew of guys that not only knew the product knowledge backwards and forwards but knew how to provide 5 Star service and sales. So when I went in recently to get a new rack for my brand new Jeep Trailhawk and didn't find Nick, Ian or Morgan working I was a bit surprised and disappointed but that was only the beginning of my disappointment. None of the guys that were working there that afternoon seemed to show any interest whatsoever in helping me, answering any questions I had or selling me anything at all. They were downright rude and dismissive. One of them wouldn't even look at me as he was so enthralled by whatever he was watching on YouTube, something about hot sauce, it was very loud and hard not to notice. Another guy seemed to only be interested in doing tricks on his skateboard, I wasn't even sure if he was an employee for awhile but then he asked me to get out of his way and go to a different part of the shop. I was the only customer in the store at the time but I may as well have been a ghost. No one provided me with any semblance of customer service and I was unable to purchase the equipment I wanted to have installed that week. To top it off as I was leaving one of the guys, whom I assume was the new manager, yelled at me in regards to where I parked my vehicle. He said I couldn't park there again and if I did he'd tow my Jeep and didn't care that I was a longtime customer and had always parked my vehicles in that location previously. I'll be taking my future business either to REI or The Rack spot and would recommend that to anyone reading this review do so as well. The new owner of Rack Solid obviously doesn't have a clue whatsoever about how to run a small business, you should fire all the inept rude morons you have working for you now and get the old staff back if you have any hopes of staying in business. It's such a shame to see what was once a great small business spiraling into the ground. read more

These guys are awesome, courteous and professional. I only bought a Thule fairing from them ..cheaper than anywhere else I found btw (the rest of my rack was a hand me down, with a fit kit i got on craig's list). I called them at 5:15pm on Saturday because I was struggling to get one of the arms on the roof. They close at 6, but still told me to come down. After driving my car like I stole it to get down there in time, they showed me what I was doing wrong in the store, and I tried putting it on myself outside moments later. After they closed up the shop, turned off their lights, and were literally pulling away in their car, they saw me struggling on the street like a total n00b and pulled over and helped me get the last arm on. I'm sure they had about 300 things they would would rather be doing on a Saturday night than help me, but they did. Any other pieces i will need for my rack I will go to these fellas for sure. Just a suggestion: putting on a rack yourself is not that difficult but can be a pain, and some of the bolts can thread easily. If I could do it over again I would pay these guys to do a nice clean install. Also, their prices compared to what I was looking at everywhere else is actually cheaper (we are talking new pieces of course) read more

Getting pumped up to head to the mountains this up coming weekend to go mountain biking so I was ready to install my Yakima rack on my car but come to find out I was missing the washer to hold the q clip and core lock so there's no way to install the q towers..I was thinking of ordering on-line but that will take a few days which might not arrive by the weekend--argh! I thought to go to the city and look for it: I went to Sports Basement, uhhhh--they don't carry Yakima. I went to REI, the guy didn't know what I was talking about--double uhhhh! So, I went yelp to look for a bike rack place and found this place with a '5 star rating'. Wow!! where can you find a bike rack place that's ranked with the maximum rating---"Rack Solid!" That's pretty awesome! So, I went to this place and was pretty impressed with the store. As small as it is, it's pretty organized and clean. Anyway, I went in the store and asked for what I was looking for and handed me what I needed. Great!!! Now, I can place my Yakima rack and get 'Epically Excited' to go mountain biking this weekend. Unsure what kind of rack to get or how, I emailed my car make and bike requirements to Rack Solid. The manager promptly emailed back the right hitch and Yakima rack. I investigated the rack and found it was one sale at REI, and that the price Rack Solid was offering me was that same sale price. They called me a few days later when the parts were in, I made an appointment, they said hour to hour and a half, and sure enough it was done in an hour. The gentleman showed me how the rack works, and I was on my way. Great price, great advice, great customer service. read more
