Easy to work with, convenient location. Originally I was going to buy from eTrailer and find an installer for a tow hitch receiver but saw that Rack Attack was super close by and they would price match. Placed the order on Monday and was able to get it installed on Friday with an extra charge for expedited shipping. read more

I had a rack installed at this Rack Attack, which is in San Francisco, and close to Market and Van Ness. I want to be clear, their installation work was perfect. That said, i encountered problems with their pricing and overall customer service. I originally purchased my rack on-line. I had it shipped to this location for installation. When you purchase on-line, they mention the benefits of buying for them, including possible installation by their installers, but are not upfront about pricing, or there even being a cost for installation. Likewise, when i dropped off the car for the work, this location was not upfront about the pricing. They never quoted me anything before beginning work, which i believe they are obligated to do, legally. Please be upfront about the pricing for your installation work. And, please have your company's website be honest about installation fees, as well! read more

Sasha and his crew are awesome. They were able to squeeze me into their schedule with only a couple days notice to set me up with a roof rack in time for a big weekend trip. They gave fast and clear communication throughout scheduling. Installation was quick. Their guidance and support made an essential, last minute installation feel super effortless. read more

Usually don't leave reviews but these guys are awesome. Lost the keys to my roof top box and rack, they got me squared away with one key for both the rack and box. read more

I've been putting off getting a hitch for our VW for months now, but recently decided to pony up and have it installed. I have to say, the process with Rack Solid was pretty easy. I called the shop and arranged payment for the hitch over the phone, then about a week later, it was time to schedule the installation. They have pretty good availability, but I ended up scheduling the installation for a week later. Installations are booked in 2-hour increments, but mine ended up taking an hour and 15 minutes. I will say that you shouldn't arrive early, since there is no room to park in the shop unless you plan to park on Otis Street, where there is little availability. Plan on double-parking in front of the shop, then run in to let them know you are there for your appointment. They will then back your car into the garage to start working on it. There is not much to do in the immediate area around the shop, so I recommend a 15-20 minute walk to Hayes Valley. Or there's also a Blue Bottle coffee a block away. After the job was done, the manager called to let me know. I then walked back, paid for the installation and was on my way. Overall, the process was easy and efficient. The shop manager is pretty no-nonsense but friendly enough, and gave me ample time to ask questions, of which I had very little. So far, the hitch has been solid--or should I say, Rack Solid! read more

I purchased my own Yakima Overhaul HD, but the included pads weren't the right fit for my setup. I called Sasha today, and he quickly provided the correct parts and got my roof rack installed in just over an hour. I'm very satisfied with the fast and efficient service! read more

Very professional service, prompt status updates and fast responses. Definitely will come back in the future, fair value for money as well. Nice that they will order custom parts to the shop and recycle the parts they remove, very easy and smooth for the customer read more

Sasha at Rack Attack was such a pleasure to work with! He was super patient with all of my questions and made me feel confident about the rack I was choosing for my car. Super helpful, super friendly staff! Today, I came in with some Thule racks that I bought on Amazon, to fit on some bases that were installed by a rack spot in San Carlos. The racks were sliding around their towers, and I couldn't figure out how to stop them from sliding around. One of the staff, I believe his name was Richard, helped me out by showing me how to tighten the towers into place by turning two Allen bolts. A simple process once you saw it. That was all I needed to fix my issue -- some simple instructions. Despite not being able to sell me a thing, Richard was glad to help me out. With this level of helpfulness, Rack Solid will be my first stop next time I need rack-related gear. Figure the least I could do was to leave a five-star review given how much they helped me out! read more

Amazing customer service, knowledgeable employees and thoughtful help when I came to pick up the product. Highly recommended!!! I knew exactly what I needed and paid for it over the phone, they had the product assembled by the time I arrived and put it on my SUV in 5 minutes, the whole process was done within the hour! read more

Incredible customer service. Needed a hitch extension for a trip that day, ordered online for pickup in store and found out after trying it on my car that it didn't fit my hitch mount. They gave me several options and we decided to have the extension cut to fit. No extra charge for customizing the extension to make it work with my hitch mount. Blown away with their great service and they only charged me for the extension part, no labor (which I would have happily paid). Highly recommend. read more

Some of our family's plans changed and suddenly our CR-V was going to be full of passengers for a Labor Day weekend trip. We had been talking about adding a roof rack for years to avoid having to choose between bringing the fun gear and bringing passengers, and inspired by the first REI sale on racks I'd ever seen, I set out on Wednesday to solve this problem once and for all. I spent 6 hours on Wednesday driving to 2 REIs, 2 Sports Basements, the Honda dealership, and on the phone with several more stores looking for parts to complete a set and an installer. REI mentioned "the rack attack website" several times to find the right fit, but no one mentioned until after Rack Solid was closed for the day that y'all are also a *store in San Francisco*. At this point I have purchased 2/3 pieces of several sets because no one has a complete set in any brand. Rack Solid in Berkeley allegedly had the final fit kit piece to one set and I ordered it online after hours. They called first thing Thursday and said the online inventory was incorrect. So I was back to square one, but they helpfully pointed me back to Rack Solid SF who according to the computer had a complete set in a different brand that would fit my car. I called and they had 2 left. I even had one piece to contribute from my collections the day prior. Score! Now, to install. The last appointment available to install before the weekend was Friday at 4. Cutting it close, but it'll have to do. It didn't leave much room for error but these folks do this for a living so I had high confidence. I wish I had known about this place earlier and saved a lot of time, gas, panic and stress. And on top of all that, everyone was super friendly. We're thinking about adding a hitch for more cargo and this'll be my first stop next time! read more

Staff was friendly and they assisted me right when I walked in. They also responded via email after I reached out to the Berkeley location with what they had in stock. They replied to emails quickly as well. Would do business with them again! read more

Deep into the pandemic and our kids were bouncing off the walls so we called a last minute audible to hit the road so they could ride bikes in open space. Totally unprepared, it was a scramble to get ready to go. Luckily Rack Solid was there for us to get us everything we need to get the bike racks on the roof. Can't recommend this local business enough. Even in a pandemic, they're answering the phones and taking care of my urgent/last minute requests read more

I called to get a replacement key for my new set of Craigslist roof racks. While they didn't have the key I needed, he (I forgot his name) offered to swap out the cylinder for a cylinder which he did have a key for, all for only the $7 for the two keys! Then he called back a few minutes later to ask if they were unlocked (which they weren't) realizing he wouldn't be able to swap them out if that was the case. Long story short, it would have been very inexpensive and super accommodating but the fact that he thought of the edge case that saved me a wasted trip was the best part of the service! read more

Our beloved roof box was damaged during a recent camping trip and I was sure that this thing was garbage when I took a look at it. The way that the fiberglass snapped looked beyond repair but we gave the team at RackSolid a call and asked them if they would be able to take a look at it. They were willing to take on the challenge and got it back to us in 1.5 weeks. There's a hefty scar for sure, but it is back in working order and ready to support us on winter trips ahead this season. Thanks for putting in the time and for helping us so quickly!! I highly recommend the service, it was also super affordable considering how expensive these roof boxes can run. We really can't thank you enough!! read more

I called and spoke to somebody. Told them I needed a hitch to tow a trailer. All was good. Got the quote. Went through with it. Had some scratches on my bumper and lights....it was already such a pain to drop my car off. Whatever. I'll let it slide. But I just got to uhaul to pick up a trailer to move, and of course I don't have lights. It wasn't ever quoted to me or discussed, and it's probably my bad for assuming that for $600 to get a hitch to tow a trailer that it would be included. But no. So that's pretty neat. read more

I had a Thule Apex 4 Bike Hitch Rack that I bought from the SF Rack Solid store over 5+ years ago. On my last car trip, I believe I may have overloaded the Bike rack and the Plastic covering holding the pin that keeps the swing arm tight was getting loose. After searching about, I was sure I was going to have to either pay for a new one or pay an exorbitant fee to get it replaced. Sasha answered my email promptly, had me take some pictures and had me swing by. I did yesterday and one of his co-workers came by, took a look and was able to adjust the plastic covering and re-hook in where the seam had come undone - it had been just a clip that had came loose and he showed me how to do it next time. The biggest kicker was that he didn't charge me anything for the order! It's nice to see that folks are still honest out there. If I could give Rack Solid 6 stars, I would. I would highly recommend them for any future sports rack purchases. read more

My boss has had four of his cars (Tesla, Chevy, Fiat, and Land Cruiser) installed with bike racks here. I have no idea how he found this place but the customer service here is above and beyond. I always get stuck with the fun task of bringing the cars here for installation even though I can barely drive. Would have probably had to take his fifth car here but I can't drive a stick. The staff here has always let me leave my car outside half parked like a crazy person because I can't drive for shit and they will always take care of everything for me. I think they can see I am in dire straits every time I arrive and they've been nothing short of helpful. They help me park, help me pull out, etc etc. I straight up almost died today driving here because I was in the wrong gear and the car refused to go faster than 30mph on the freeway and Abe gave me a whole demonstration of how to put the car in the correct gear. My own boss didn't even think to do that! He just threw me to the wolves! Bleugh. Thank God for the guys here! They have fantastic communication and are super helpful anytime we have a problem. My boss lost the keys for one of the racks once (no idea what the lingo here is) and they were able to get us a spare! We also had an issue with the wrong colored racks (miscommunication) and they had no problem swapping it out for a different color. They're really good at calling & following up. Appointments were always held and I was in a rush once and they were able to accommodate my schedule. You can call or email if you have questions and they always respond right away. Everyone is insanely nice here and I love it! They never laugh at my stupid questions and are extremely knowledgable. The manager Ian is the best! You can tell they really enjoy working there as well. There is a waiting area in the front while they work on your car but its in such a great location I've always checked out a new lunch spot and by the time I'm done eating, the installation is done! Happy happy joy joy. read more

I got a new car and was sadly surprised to learn my previous snowboard racks didn't fit the new car's roof racks. (Different brands) I really didn't want to have to buy a new set of racks, and I couldn't find any conversion kits online. I felt stuck. Decided to visit Rack Solid to see if they might know any tricks. Josh was there to help. He took a quick l look at my car & racks and knew what to do. A few minutes later, he found the right screws and fasteners so I was able to use my existing snowboard rack on the new car's roof rack, even though they were different brands! Josh is a life saver and also saved me a ton of money. Five stars for sure! read more
