I like these guys and I wanted to support a local business but the Yakima they sold me had the wrong parts for our Prius C and it could have been a near disaster. Yes I installed it myself but i had the guy inspect it after and he looked it over and gave me the thumbs up. I came close to losing a mountain bike and longboard at highway speeds. Visited the location in Berkeley to get a rack installed on my truck's camper top so that I could haul my kayak. A couple of days later the entire rack along with Kayak flew off while on the San Mateo bridge. It was very fortunate that no one was hurt. Had to reinstall my self with a little help from the highway patrol. Damage to roof and kayak. Since I was heading down the coast I called their SF location as I wanted to make sure it was installed correctly. Long story short the rack once again came off. At least this time not completely and was not on highway. I have always had roof racks and know Thule sells quality systems. Never in 30 years of hauling bikes,canoes and kayaks have I ever had this happen before. I do not have confidence in this shop. read more

Ok. ok. ok. I should not have written a review before actually finishing the purchase. This is very generous at 3 stars at best, but I'll say this... If it was not for Anthony I would have given 1 star and never come back!!! I may have had a limited perspective of the business operations but I imagine Anthony is equatable to the glue that holds this company together! I went back on the weekend to do the test fitting and buy everything. I had my truck parked in the back, not in their lot, but on the street in the back. The salesperson Bob didn't seem to know anything about the products. Seriously confused. He didn't even know that the fat cat can slant at an angle. He didn't even know how to put on the roof rack accessories that he sold me, most specifically the snowboard rack! (Rack Solid emailed me shortly after writing this review and mentioned he had not been trained on snow season yet.) He asked that I pull my truck around to the front so we could test fit, but I didn't really understand why since they have a back area and there was only one other customer there. I didn't have change for the meter so I thought I could just rush in and let him know and re-park. He was talking to another customer at this point, and just went on and on and on. I kept staring back at my truck antsy to let this guy know, but sure enough I got a ticket. I can't blame him for the ticket, but when I finally talk to him again, he asks me to move my truck to the back! What the hell man? My friend and I take the truck to the back where he says he will meet us. After waiting for maybe 5 minutes he brings out the box. Then he seemingly disappears and we're waiting outside for another 15 minutes. A lady pulls around the back and the dude starts mounting a cargo box on her car while ignoring us besides a quick "thanks for being patient." That woman came in a loooong time after us. By this point I had said hello to Anthony who I met in the back parking area. He was working on some other project, and I could tell he was starting to get concerned about how long we were waiting. He went inside to let the salesman know, but after almost 45 minutes total waiting, I just said screw this, waved goodbye to Anthony and left. But after calming down I just felt defeated and wanted to get this project done with, even if I had to put up with this B.S. I called the store and I asked the original sales guy (I was calm, not angry) if he was ready to help me. He apologized profusely and said he would even stay late if he had to. I went back and the salesman did come out to start helping me. But unfortunately he had a lot of trouble both psychically and with product knowledge. He had difficulties performing his work duties. At this point I was considering just saying "I'll do it by myself." Along comes Anthony again, and thank god he did. He was surprised I came back, and he said he wanted to make sure I was taken care of. By now, the store is closed and we are working in the dark. While the salesperson slowly grabs parts and tries to figure out how a clip works, Anthony is quickly and securely fastening everything like it's second nature. You would think it would be second nature for the salesperson. THEN Anthony found a problem with how the salesperson put the Thule Aeroblade mount on. The salesperson nearly broke the mount. We were almost done and I asked Anthony to leave because I felt bad that he had to compensate for an incompetent co-worker and he shouldn't have to do this in the first place. I thanked him in the most sincere way I could. I finished up with the salesperson, they price matched Any Mountain on the cost of the cargo box, gave me free installation, and I paid about $1200. I exhaustively left. By this point, not including the time I had left, we had put 3-4 hours into something that Anthony probably could have done in 20 minutes. I was a bit pissed and not thinking clearly and forgot to ask for the box and documentation. I didn't even get the hex wrench that came with the Thule bars. :-\ I was reminded to leave a review today while paying my parking ticket. This experience was so frustrating, but it's finally done. Drove about 700 miles with the full rack set up (thule bars, yakima skybox and yakima fat cat 4) and everything held up perfectly. Very sturdy, I'm pleased with the final result. Thank you Anthony, this would have been a disaster without your help! I will probably come back, but if I see that particular salesperson again, I am turning around. read more

After three weeks they could not figure out ordering a trailer hitch. Ordered a trailer hitch for my car. $311 with tax (+200 install upon arrival). Ordered on a Thursday, they said they batch on Mondays and would take 3-5 days. Called back next Friday "Not here. We ordered yesterday." (A week later). Called back next Thursday. "Not here." Again, no apology or explanation. Called back NEXT Friday (three weeks out). "We think Fed Ex (or whoever) lost it. It's on them." He actually suggested I order it myself and then they would install. Would refund my $311. I said ok, but then he said he could not take care of it then, would call me back. 6 hours later, at 4:45 I call again, now seeking my refund. "Still working on an install, I haven't forgotten. I have your number." Waited a few days more then cancelled via my credit card company. (Curiously got a series of texts a few days after that asking for my credit card number.) Couldn't deliver a basic part of their business and didn't not seem to care, which is the part that frosted me enough to write this review. If there had been some sense or customer service or caring, I probably would have stuck with them. Wanted to go local for a trailer hitch. Instead I waited three weeks from initiation then ultimately ended up at U-haul and spent $200 less for the whole thing. read more

Absolutely horrible service. Unfortunately I couldn't get his name but a guy with mid length hair maybe down to his neck with a hat on I think he had some facial hair just threw the worst temper tantrum. Lol!! This guy was worse than my 3 year old. I had spoken to rack solid before and had issues because they didn't have the pets and all that so I had to go to the dealer to get some stuff and then I went to pick up the Thule box that I had already agreed with over the phone. Due to the inconvenience I was going to receive 15 percent off I made sure to ask that their prices are the same as the Thule website and I was informed that they were so 15 percent off extra due to what happened when trying to buy from them was a good deal. I went at 10 am like I was told to go and speak with my the rep and I found out he wasn't there. No biggie! They brought out the box placed it on my car and then went in to verify the amount I informed him of this discount that was promised he said ok. He came back and the box price was like over 809 bucks plus 15 percent off. I said this wasn't what I had agreed to the price of the box should be the same as at the Thule website plus 15 percent off. He immediately with one arm yanked the box off my car and snatched the paper with the price out of my hands and started babbling and rambling off we can't do that blah blah blah just like my 3 year old I tuned him out (wow, I'm really good at that now). He walked in and put the box away super rude and angry and I was standing there because he still had my credit card. He came back and said oh I still have your card I said ... yup. He gave me the card grabbed his stool and said have a nice day. Cmon now what's the point of me paying like over 700 bucks for your Thule box when it's on the Thule website for 663? This guy needs a reality check and to realize people don't care about his short temper and anger management. I really wanted to be part of the Rack Solid fam lol ... oh well I tried. When I used to live in San Francisco I would see other with their rack solid decal and I was like one day I'll have enough to be able to visit that store because this type of stuff to your car is expensive. Summary: I was going to buy my hitch my cross bars a bike hitch rack and a cargo carrier for my car they weren't able to accommodate my vehicle so I still tried and went to my dealer to get the hitch and cross cars and went back to them for the hitch bike rack and cargo carrier. They didn't have the hitch bike carrier so I bought it at a bike store and WENT BACK for my roof cargo box and they didn't honor the price I was told over the phone. Ultimately I ended up going everywhere else for my purchases. Save yourself time and just go to a bike shop your dealer and rei or some other outside camping store for your stuff lol Semi long hair with hat and facial guy anger management, rude, temper tantrum, baby. Lol Patrick rude over the phone. If I could give 0 stars I would. But I do agree with everyone else though Josh is super freaking amazing. I am not sure what to think of this place. They were listed on the sight for stealthitches.com as an advertised installer. So I called them and asked them for an installation quote from the hitch I just purchased from StealthHitches. At first they seem genuinely confused about what I was asking about. Eventually they got back to me and told me the could do the installation, but I would need to pay for it ($425) to reserve the spot. I have been swindled by enough service technicians in my life that I don't think this is an acceptable policy. I don't mind paying a deposit if they are worried about cancellations. But a full payment for a job that has neither been attempted or completed in any fashion provides this company all of the leverage. I would go somewhere else if you have a job you care about being done right and only use this place if you want it done ASAP. read more

New to town and needed to pick up a rack for my mountain bikes. Great selection and prices were better than anywhere in town! After explaining my needs the guys recommend the Thule Sidearm and it is by far the best / most versatile rack I have owned. About two weeks later the plastic piece that holds the lock cylinder in place was run over by a car - doh! Went in to pick up a replacement piece and the guys hooked it up for free. These are the nicest folks on the planet. A year ago I bought a bike rack but didn't have time to install it. They cheerfully agreed to hold it for me. Then Covid ran thru the family and we forgot things like picking up a rack. Every few months I'd call Josh or Francisco to see if they still had it. Once they even had to check the warehouse for it. Yup. They still had it. Every time. And it was always : no problem" holding it a bit longer. Finally, today, a year later we go to pick it up. I used them to have a hitch receiver installed. I had a horrifying experience trying to take the car to uhaul to have it installed (Was verbally assaulted by the manager when I walked in the door for appt. And they didn't have my part in stock despite the appointment having been pushed back another week, but didn't bother telling me until I showed up for the appointment. Yes, it would have been cheaper, but did not feel safe leaving my car there or even trying another Uhaul), I called up Rack Solid and they not only had the part in stock, but were able to install it the same day. The nicest team ever! We had a smash and grab and the thieves stole our Thule rack lock keys. Josh tried every key (of the 50+ on the ring) twice before finding the right key. Rack Solid didn't have that key in stock and Thule was also out of stock of that key! Nick and Chris knows their stuffs inside out. We lost part on our Thule bike racks and straps from our Thule Pulse box, they know right the way which part # to give us. We were impressed by their knowledge and customer service. If there was an option for 10 stars my wife would give it to them. The price at Rack solid is the same as if we ordered online without the shipping cost ($10-$20) and no wait... Nothing beats instant gratification while supporting local business! read more

Plus: Competent installation of a set of Yakima tracks, done in a bit less time than promised. Minus (and the reason for 2 stars off): They must have a high staff turnover rate. Both of the people who helped me figure out what I want, and place the order, were new. The first quoted me a price that turns out to have excluded the cost of an essential part (the "landing pad") that is needed to use the tracks. There's almost no situation where one would have the landing pad and not also have the track. The two require each other, and are only usable with each other. At the very least, these employees didn't know what questions to ask of customers. So at the end, this system ended up costing me about $100 more than I understood. Also, be careful of the other reviews that talk about "terrific" prices on Yakima and Thule racks/parts. It appears that both have very tight control of pricing. You will pay essentially the same price at Rack Solid as at REI (Rack Solid was actually a dollar or two higher than REI during the Yakima 20% offf that happens around Memorial day, but I'll consider that in the noise) read more

I was in need of a relatively cheap bike rack for my car and heard about these folks from a friend. After seeing their stellar reviews on Yelp, I decided to take the plunge and not purchase a bike rack on Amazon... If I don't have someone show me exactly how to install the rack on my car, it's likely to fall off. I called them after hours and received a call back the next morning. Instead of calling them back, I decided to pay them a visit after work, but couldn't get there until a bit before closing. Instead of telling me to come back he next day, they were happy to talk to me about my options, and install my rack (a bit after hours, I may add). They were even very courteous regarding my budget. These guys are GREAT. I had a serious issue getting my Thule 4 bike rack to lift after a piece of it got bent. I went to one place that told me I needed to replace the rack. The guys at Rack Solid took a look and decided to try working some heavy duty grease into it. Voila! The thing operates like new! And they refused any payment because they saw it as an easy fix!
