I believe I reviewed this place but maybe didn't save or some thing. Anyways it's a great little find in Humboldt Park. The wait can be long for a walk in but they're usually accommodating. Longest I ever waited was maybe 15 minutes than one person started and the person, a male Who had done my nails and remembered me from before, finished. He's talented and is really good about following direction and getting approval along the way. Show him a picture and he can do wonders. We can all identify with people who love their job and not so much the 9 to 5 ers in the world but people who really love what they do 24-7. The folks at Rachel's nails DO NAILS... and very well I might add but the pedicure is where I really evaluate dedication to the "Nails" profession. I mean let's face it, you're dealing with peoples feet and taking pride in your work as a pedicurist is something you truly have to have a love for. This defines the whole crew at Rachel's nails. I am a middle-aged guy... and one of my friends "Grace" treated me to a pedicure for Father's Day. I said "sure!" From the time we walked in till the time we were finished, I felt like we were being well taken care of and who doesn't love that? A full pedicure is reasonably inexpensive (although this was a gift to me) and I noticed that there were lots of ways to make the experience even better so I opted for a few of those as well. The crew at Rachel's are all very talented at what they do in terms of designs on your nails or coloring and can offer a variety of helpful suggestions for the ignorant and indecisive like myself. A pedicure is not something I've done more than once or twice in my life... so perhaps the more regular and discerning customer may have different things to say. Even when familiar, I judge a business and their services by the vibe I get and the team at Rachel's nails are professionals - they love what they do. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and my feet and ankles felt amazing! Lastly, I've decided to make the pedicure more of a routine... maybe every couple months because taking care of myself is something that is always important to me and our feet are important tools - they should look good and feel good all the time! I highly recommend Rachel's nails for a manicure or pedicure anytime you feel like treating yourself to something special while in a relaxing and no- nonsense environment! But the guy who helped me had NO PATIENCE, I asked for a design and got something very different, it took him 20 mins to do the nails, threw my hands at the lamp continuously and scolded me the 2 times I reached to my phone to check something, told me he was busy and I am slow (WTF). I'll note my hands do shake a little but he was clearly holding my fingers and you can tell his effort was just none. I tried to be nice and ask for another time to get them fixed (clearly I have the intention of a second chance and I still paid 40 dllls of the 65 meant for this time) and she said "but you cannot be on your phone or move when we do them" like, I checked my phone twice less than a second and was scolded about it, and did not Even move. read more

Husband passed by this place while walking in the neighborhood and suggested I try it. Called around 130 today and got right in. I had Michael and was very happy. Great foot massage and hand massage, plus he does great work! For $70 I got a no chip manicure, pedicure, and a much needed brow wax! Prices are amazing. Many walk ins came after me, most of them were getting fill ins for acrylics. Seems like it is a busy place. Glad to find it in my neighborhood. very clean and professional place they will make designs for you just bring in a picture call ahead to make appointment but they do accept walk-ins I only had one issue with my acrylic nails where the matte color started peeling within days. Omfg. This place is a rare gem. I'm a nail tech of 15 years. Dont mean to brag but not many can out do my work or creativity. Im rarely ever satisfied with other work because when you're amazing and can do amazing for others and other can't reciprocate it gets old and you get jaded by mediocre works.. well on my trip I broke a nail and found a diamond in this store. I freaking wanted to pack him in my bag and fly him back to Boston to work for the salon there. They have a younger guy working there first desk on the left. Hes humble but his work is littt. I hate the fact that I have to give this place one star because they really do not deserve it. This was my go to nail shop once upon a time when it was own by Rachel. My 12 yr old daughter and I went for pedicures and I last minute added a manicure. My pedicure was so rushed and incomplete, like I still have my ingrown toe nail bothering me. My daughter was told she couldn't get a French manicure. Let me not forget to mention the level of disrespect I encountered with the individual who did my manicure from trying to order me to watch tv to telling me to look at my phone. The man who took off my acrylics made my fingers literally bleed, and when he filed with the drill he kept accidentally nicking my skin. There are no recent reviews so I thought I should post. I have been living in the neighborhood for 3 years now, I think the ownership changed, & the bad reviews are from previous owners. I go in there at least once a month (up to 3 times per month) for a mani/pedi, or just one, or a simple polish change. The polish selection is OK not great, sometimes I bring my own polish. They do a good job overall, the prices are really good, so you get what you pay for. I paid $15 for a manicure in Roscoe village & I wanted my nails filed perfectly, they weren't. I have never seen anyone leave crying, & I do see a lot of people stop in to get their eyebrows done. The staff is very nice & sweet. I am a repeat customer! I am going in today for a mani pedi! The owner Helen and her staff are very nice, they always greet you when you come in and service is always great. I usually get the mani/pedi combo and eyebrows, they have a nice selection of colors and it last a long time. The salon is very clean and well kept, it is usually quiet, good for relaxing or a quick nap lol. Okay so I came here a few times. It was cool at first but they had cut my finger one time and they just seemed to have this weird attitude towards me. So I stopped going for a while then I tried to go again and they didn't do tapered square correctly and did coffin instead. Then I came again recently like almost 2 weeks ago because I wanted them to cut my nail and put one fake nail on and the rest my real nails for a no chip mani because my nail was breaking already towards the middle of my nail and it was hurting. I came in and was waiting for a long time until they finally decided to start on me yet continued to take other walk ins after i walked in and I was still there til they closed. I'm explaining to the guy what I want him to do for my nails and he's trying to put acrylic on my broken nail and I'm asking him why he isn't doing the correct thing I asked for not only sanitary purposes but for the health of my nail and letting him also know that he's hurting my nail lol and he starts arguing with me and tries asking the lady that was there and she's trying to tell me he's right and then the guy says he's not going to do my nails and telling me to leave after only shaping one hand and he couldn't even do the tapered square correctly either, it just looked like coffin yet again. I tried to remain as calm as possible because I was already about to lose my temper, and made it known that every time I come there they always want to have an attitude and that would be the last time I'm ever going there and they stopped talking real quick. Literally won't go there again, I wasted my time going for real thinking they were going to have better service but I was disappointed again. Ended up going to Chicago nail room on north and western right after because I needed my nails done and they had 5 stars and the customer service was great and very clean and had good products just a little pricey but I would go there over this place any day, they literally even provided me with free beverages. read more

I got my nails and feet done here. Let me tell you, I left with my nails looking like boxes instead of a square shape. I ended up going home and fixing it myself. They flooded my cuticles with nail polish and didn't even push back the cuticle. My feet do not feel like a babies bottom. Go there if you want cheap nails. First and foremost, this is probably the cleanest nail salon I've seen ever! Helen the owner is super sweet and so is the rest of her staff. I love coming here especially with my six year old daughter. They treat us very well! As far as the service; I have had no chip nails, gel full and fill-ins, pedicure, eyebrows and facial and I can assure I have been very happy with everything. My fill-ins do not not look like fill-ins they always look as though I got a fresh new set. I constantly get compliments about my hands, feet and eyebrows. I will Continue to come here. HAD good expectations of this place... Got a pedi and no-chip mani both jobs very sloppy, the man that did my pedi scratch the side of my foot and left my foot very irritated, (I told him as soon as he was done, all he said was "ohhh yeah"), had to color my toes twice because the nail polish was uneven and a second person had to fix my nail because he cut them uneven. My nails were done by someone else who stop after he cut the side of my thumb with the nail filer and ended with yet another person who did a horrible job. Staff was nice. Unfortunately, that's the only good thing about this place. My usual nail place (Jimmy Nails) was closed so I ended up here. Nail polish selection was limited (plenty of cheap quality nail polish but just a few OPI & Essie colors). Pedicure was fine but my manicure looks like a child did it. I have been to Rachel's Nails several times, mostly for manicures. I have gotten a different person each time, i find generally the women do the nails better than the man who works there. I generally leave happy because the price can't be beat... $10 for a basic manicure, very close to my apartment. Sure, some nails might be shorter than others, and it might chip after a week...but for the price that makes sense to me. I've also gotten my eyebrows waxed, and honestly Helen was more meticulous and shaped them better than anyone I've been to, quickly and painlessly.
