I like to study in coffee shops, and meanwhile check out neighbourhood cafes. I saw a review that this place is good for studying so decided to check it out. I arrived around 10am on a Saturday morning, got an almond latte and an almond croissant. I drank my latte first and slowly nibbled on the croissant because I wasn't too hungry. The latte was very rich in the almond flavour, and the croissant was nice and flaky. The chairs at the front of the cafe are very comfortable with high arm and back rest. The biggest turn off though was around lunchtime a lady came to collect my empty cup and plate and told me I cannot stay so long, max. one hour sitting time. I had all intentions to order again with them for lunch because as I was studying I saw tables next to me really enjoyed their salads and sandwiches. But after being told I've been sitting too long - when there were no signs of a seating time limit - I decided to just leave. They could've approached me by first asking if I want anything else, and most likely I'll get the hint and order again as I had intended. Instead, they directly told me there's an one hour seating limit that was not posted anywhere. I'd rather go to a Starbucks then, at least I won't be told to leave. read more

Came here for an afternoon coffee and treat with a pal. The decor of this place is really nice! I love the pattern on the wall; the swirls almost make you feel relaxed (in a strange way). You will also notice how clean this place is. As soon as guests leave, their area is cleaned up and ready for another set of guests. I ordered the latte - presentation was great , with latte art and all! I broke my no-sweets diet and ordered an Oreo brownie. It was quite rich, but delicious. My go to cafe in the area! It's a cute family run cafe and seems to be loved by the locals. If you go at a busy time, the line can be out the door! I am a huge fan of their Macadamia Latte! Cute coffee shop between Davisville and Eglington stations to have a relaxed cup of coffee. Although their coffee and baked goods are good enough, the thing that brings this café up a notch is their clean and comfortable seating area with lots of natural light. They even have an outdoor patio area for sunny days. I recommend this café if you're in the neighbourhood and looking for a place to catch up with a friend or read a book! read more

Was in the neighbourhood this morning and wanted a quick breakfast before a meeting. Friendly enough staff, but I ordered the avocado toast for $7. Got all the way to the office to discover it was a piece of chewy bread, zero toasting (the whole draw of avocado toast is the TOAST). The toppings were about $1 worth of bland ingredients, which desperately needed a bit of salt. The description said it was finished with Himalayan pink salt. None that I could detect. Certainly not worth $7 and didn't line up with the very wordy description on the chalk board menu. read more

I love this place! Rachael's cafe is a clean, sleek and elegant café with cozy seating and a nice outdoor patio. The place is so welcoming and relaxing and the staff is extremely friendly. The prices are reasonable and they also have free wifi. This place offers fair trade organic coffee/ loose leaf teas, a variety of interesting espresso drinks that include almond and macadamia nut lattes ($3.60/$4.25). They also offer blended coffee, real fruit, tea and cream smoothies ($4.25); the smoothies are gluten free. Besides their beverage menu, they have tons of sweet and savory options that include cookies, brownies, croissants, cakes, and frozen yogurt that comes in salted caramel with a shot of espresso and yogurt flavor. They have gluten-free options available too. They also have a nice lunch menu that includes fresh sandwiches and salad. The cheerful woman behind the counter told me that they try to emphasize products made with natural ingredients with few, if any, preservatives; they also try to use less sugar. My favorites- The blended drinks: I love the toffee, chocolate, latte and Japanese matcha tea flavors. The drink is blended into a creamy consistency, not too sweet, and very flavorful. The blended drinks are delish and a cool delight on a hot summer day. The coffee: The iced-americano is strong and refreshing ($2.75). The almond latte (Large $4.25) is made with almond milk. The latte is velvety smooth, with a slightly sweet delish almond flavor. The sandwiches: I love the club chicken (under $8) and ham & cheese Euro-wrap (under $7) sandwiches. The portions are good, the ingredients are super fresh, and the bread is crispy and warm. They give you a good amount of meat in both sandwiches. All sandwiches come with a fresh and healthy salad. Came across this coffee house a month ago when I was on my way to pick up my bibs for the sporting life run. At first, it was the name of this coffee house that caught my attention, and because of that reason I decided to walk in and gave it a try with a friend. I'm glad I made the right decision!! Although the place is relatively small, but the decoration is very modern and makes you feel very cozy. As an added bonus, you can enjoy unlimited WiFi while sitting in a comfy chair! Food wise, I ordered a green tea latte, a sandwich, salad and a slice of cake to share and all the food were very good. The green tea latte is by far one of the best compare to the big chains coffee shops around the area and the salad was very fresh. I especially loved the way they cut their cucumbers; it did make a big difference! If I ever am in the area again, I will for sure pay another visit!! read more

I'm so glad I discovered this place and that it's so close to home! I've been here twice, once for coffee/tea with a friend and another to get some web design work done on my computer. They have a variety of loose-leaf teas that are served in a very cute tea service if you get it to stay. The butter tart is delicious, and the rockslide/rocky road/whatever brownie was also quite good. I didn't try any croissants or coffee yet but I will definitely try them next time I'm in. The lunch I had was delicious. The chicken sandwich with a side salad was great. They accommodated my food allergy and offered an alternative to the pine nut-ridden pesto. It also came with a side salad. They have 2 types of drinking water you have access to: mint and lemon, and cucumber. Both are delicious. The downstairs area smells divine, like a spa, and the washroom area is impeccably clean. Lots of nice fixtures too. This place looks and smells like money. This has got to take the record for the cleanest, most enjoyable bathroom in a coffee shop I've ever been to. Most places skimp on things and get terribly, low-quality, offensive-smelling air "fresheners," but this place is definitely on its game! This place really makes you feel like you're in a spa. It's so peaceful and beautiful. Clean lines. Clean everything. Clean but not sterile-feeling; it had liveliness and warmth. Service is very friendly. Everyone is smiling and seems happy to be there. They have some nice cushy seats too, and amazingly fast wifi. This place deserves to be praised. It is obvious that they tried their hardest to make all the right moves and didn't cut any corners. Love love love this place. First - the food/drinks: I ordered the latte which tasted great (organic beans) and a giant chocolate chip cookie that was chewy and delicious. The two combined costs $6. About average price. I saw other people in the nearby tables ordering the sandwhiches which came with a side salad and everyone kept saying how good it was. Gotta try it myself next time. Second - atomosphere - good for chatting, reading, studying, working. They have lots of electrical outlets, free wifi (though the internet is real slow) , lots of fun, a tiny patio and comfortable seating. No loud music playing in the background. Third - service - really friendly and pretty fast. Overall - I'm going to have to come back again to try out the other food and drink items that other people are raving about. This might sound random considering this place is primarily a coffee house, but this review is just for the rainbow salad. I work down the street and whenever I'm in the mood for a light lunch, the rainbow salad is one of my go-to's. At $9.60 after tax it's not the cheapest salad by any means, but I enjoy it. It's available with sliced chicken breast or tuna salad (both good but the tuna is my fave) and a choice of 3 dressings: balsamic, ginger or honey dijon. I'm a balsamic kinda gal myself. I make a point of avoiding the Starbucks and Tim Hortons of the world to see if good speciality roasters are out there. Rachel's is good coffee place but not a roaster (from what I saw). A very friendly family runs Rachel's, taking their time to make sure your order is correct. I just had a regular coffee and a couple of pastries: chocolate croissant (based on a Yelp tip) and chocolate-cranberry toast. The coffee was good enough and I would definitely come back if I was in the neighbourhood. The toast was great! Make sure you wait the extra minute to have it toasted and buttered. Cute spot to hit up with friends or just sit on the patio and people watch! Surprisingly this is a pretty decent size place with plenty of seating - the front seating has nice comfy chairs and there is additional seating in the back. I tried the mango tango and it was delish! You ca actually taste the mango and they make it fresh for you - all blended in front of you. I haven't tried any of the food but from other reviewers comments the food seems to be good so I will definitely get a bite next time I am in. Went here twice, both for studying. The location is pretty good, just 5 mins away from TTc station. There are also plenty of grocery store nearby so it is convenient if you want to do a bit of weekly grocery shopping I tried their dirty matcha, very tasty. The flavor of matcha is strong, yet you can still taste the espresso shot. They two compliment each other so well I am impressed!! The price of their espresso drink is also pretty competitive. For less than 4 dollars you get a large coffee (excluding tax). However, I would say the coffee flavour in the latte isn't as strong as I would prefer. If you like stronger coffee, I recommend trying their cappuccino. Personally haven't tried that, but it is at the same price as the latte. The guy next to.me ordered that, and I see that the size is the same as my latte!! Many coffee shops gives you a smaller size for cappuccino, but not here. read more

Really nice owners, bright space, free wifi and AMAZING coffee! I only wish Rachel's Coffee existed in Mississauga so I wouldn't have to trek all the way to Yonge and Eg for a great cup of coffee. The owners of Rachel's used to own one of the Second Cups in the Eaton Centre. They decided they wanted to open their own shop so they could do things their own way and I'm so glad that they did. I had their lemonade and an almond latte. The lemonade was fresh and the perfect amount of sweetness. You also didn't get that crystalized sugar taste that you usually get. The almond latte for me is worth the drive to Y and E. It was smooth and velvety while maintaining a robust coffee taste. I'm finding myself craving it constantly. There is no comparison between Rachel's (and really any good independent coffee house) and a Starbucks or Second Cup. The independent will win every time. You can immediately notice the difference in the care put in and the flavours that come out. If you ever happen to be in the area, do yourself a favour. Throw out your Starbucks, stop in and enjoy what a great cup of coffee should taste like. read more

When I first saw this place being built up I was like oh no are they going to survive because we have EVERY coffee chain in the area of Yonge-Davisville. So this place has to be outstanding in order to beat these guys...and I think they will do just fine! They are attached to the Lil' Baci place next door, I don't know if they are linked? Came in here 2 days in a row - first had their Chai Latte which was so nice. Second day I had the Caramel Latte which was also good but a little too sweet for my liking. The baked goods look so tempting as well, I'm going to have to get into those as well eventually, along with their lunch options. The staff are so friendly and they tell you take a seat and they'll bring over your order. They make you feel at home. I thought I'd found my go-to for getting work done while in Toronto but alas, after 2 weeks of coming, I was informed by the manager of their "One hour maximum" policy and that this was not a "cyber cafe." It's fair enough I suppose, although having spent years and years working in coffee shops, it is a first for me. And it's not like I was just buying one coffee. Multiple lattes, the odd salad...anyway, point is, if you're looking for a place to hole up for the afternoon, this is not it. Other than this souring incident... The staff are very sweet for the most part and seem to be on a first name basis with many of their customers. I love that the coffee is fair trade organic and that the lattes are large although taste-wise, they're average. They could use more healthy options on their menu. It's cozy and spacious and having grown up in the area, a much needed addition to Yonge & Davisville! Unfortunately, I was all set to recommend it to everyone I know and now I won't be doing that. The ambiance here is so wonderful! The decor is simple, white and immaculate, with comfy seats. Everyone here at Rachel's Coffee House is also friendly :) I tried their Americano and it was better than average! Besides their coffee, they have a great selection of pastries. I absolutely love their chocolate and strawberry scone - only $1.80 and homemade! This scone is sooooo moist and scrumptious. I had a great matcha soy latte here today. They have some comfy seating at the front of this place, and some patio seating outside. It's a super cute independent coffee place. It's not near where I live, so I'm not sure how often I would frequent here, but it's worth grabbing a drink here if you're in the hood. Generally around here, I find it easy to find street parking, plus it's a short walk from Davisville station (I'd say about 7 minutes or so). This is a place for me to come every day for a great cup of coffee if I live in Toronto, Canada. The people works there are warm, friendly and great customer service provided. Impressive space designed by the owner, they created a pleasant atmosphere with great amount of details in the design. Every square foot of this space have been thought about and carefully touched. Just wait until you see the bath room. I thought I was in a 5 stars hotel café. Not a usual café shop I can experience at my home town in San Francisco. The Latte was excellent and loves it with great presentation. The dessert was excellent also with carefully touch. Typical café shop will just serve you the dessert out cold from the cooler displace case. They purposely warm it for better flavor to serve with a beautiful cup of Latte. The heat was a temporary problem, so don't worry about coming here and thinking it's hot. The owners seem like such a nice couple. They kept apologizing for their a/c problems and assured us it was being fixed. I work nearby and am so glad I have a coffee shop to go to besides Starbucks and Second Cup. (As a former employee of both coffee chains, I am allowed to admit that this place is way better). This is my new hang out. My first visit today to this new independent cafe, which I'm happy to see in the neighbourhood. The owners have clearly put solid effort in to the clean, modern decor, as well as their produce offer. Coffee is ground and made fresh by the cup using some sort of gadget (maybe an Aeropress type thing?), and there is a wide selection of treats, some made in-house and some brought in. One of the people working there recommended a freshly baked croissant (plain or chocolate) with my coffee. It didn't take a lot of persuading for me to say yes to that. Atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. They also have a small (4 table) street side patio. $5 for a large coffee and a freshly baked croissant. I'll be back for more without a doubt. read more

One of the best vanilla lattes I have ever tasted! It has a pure vanilla flavour without the excessive sweetness that flavoured lattes tend to possess. The brewed coffee was also delicious; dark and strong without being bitter. They have a full menu of fair trade coffee and tea options to choose from and the staff will adjust the drink to suit your preference. The baked goods didn't really appeal to me for breakfast but the brownies would make a great late night treat along with your delicious latte! The inside is clean and comfortable. Not exactly cozy, but I agree with the reviews calling it sleek. Its a really nice place to go for a relaxing chat. I will definitely go back! I'm looking forward to trying more things from their menu including the Macadamia nut latte. **update: I changed the rating to 3.5 after trying some other lattes. So many high reviews once again set my exceptions way too high. I thought I was going to walk into a place filled with desserts on display but sadly there were only a few options for dessert. I ended up only getting a vanilla ice latte as it was a really hot day. The drink was really good and service was really fast. No complaints about this place other than the lack of dessert selection. I say the butter tarts and knew they are from Maid's Cottage. I think this place belongs to between Country Style and Second Cup even though Country Style has better baking goods. Great service here, they greet everyone that comes in, and serve you at your table if you are staying around. The owner is also around, so she will chat with you, and she seems to know all the regulars. I could see this becoming a good neighbourhood hangout if I'm in the area.
