Asked two guys for help this morning at the Woodstock trailhead. Turns out they were the owner/manager and head wrench Brandon at Trek Ellicott City. Lucky us. One of our bikes' SRAM shifter/derailleur was acting up. They spent 10-15 minutes working on it to help us out -- updated the firmware and diagnosed the problem. At minute five I said to Brandon -- "just go ride, we'll figure it out". "Nah," he said, "I'm on it now. This is getting done." They were both awesome. So appreciative of the time they spent with us! I just dropped off my ebike for tire/tube work. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by Tyler. I asked if he could come out with me to help me get the heavy bike inside. I never knew the store was here. I know they have a branch in Columbia. I was shopping for some bicycle shorts and discovered this branch on Yelp side decided to come to Ellicott city. It is a very spacious store with very easy parking. Even though it's on route 40 it's not a hassle to get to. The staff was pretty helpful not super helpful but pretty helpful. I ended up not buying the shorts at this location because they didn't have ones that fit me. As with everything cycling in the stuff is pretty expensive. I would definitely take my bike here if I needed repairs. I've been looking for a new repair shop to use. So I'll check them out for repairs hopefully not soon though! read more

Every Monday evening at 6:30 you can stop in a they will show you how to change the tire, repair a flat. We had bought our bikes there and finally came in to take advantage of this free service. We had Nathan A nice young man, very patient with us older folks!! Lol. He made us feel comfortable with the process and we are sure we can now take care of a flat if one happens. read more

I'm pleased with this place. On my first visit they fixed a flat I was having trouble discovering the cause of at a reasonable cost. Today I went to consider having my bike modified and they told me if I love the bike do it. I considered the price and that of a bike with similar features and traded it in. They moved every part of the old bike I wanted to keep but one that was an incompatible size. The techs and sales people, some firmer Princeton and Bike Nashbar staff, were straight no BS helpful. It is nice to go to a business where people know what they're doing. I'd have liked to see the gear ratios posted for each bike. read more

Bikes are hard to find these days!! I found the size bike my son needed at Race Pace. I ordered and asked them to hold it for me until I was able to pick it up -- a month!!! I finally made the 50 minute drive there to get it today. The person who helped me (Greg I think) was incredibly helpful. He answered a million questions for me about my son's new bike and helped me with my ongoing quest to find a cruiser bike so I can ride easily with my son. He pulled several bikes down for me -- and looked them up to make sure they weren't available to be sold. I really appreciated his customer service. I did not particularly want to drive that far for a bike -- but the service I received was enough I would come back. read more

Race Pace is far and above all other bike shops that I have shopped and had service! All personnel are extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. They are absolutely second to none. During these times of COVID-19, there have been several people complaining about various things like having to wait a long time to be waited on, etc. In my opinion, these people need to understand that there has been a huge increase in demand for bicycle sales/repair services, and to be more patient. The Race Pace team is, without a doubt, worth the wait! If you are unable to be more patient, then, by all means, go to a different bike shop for your service and see what you get! I have been going to Race Pace for over a year now when I need something biking related. Most of the time I am there it is for something small, but I recently purchased one of my new bikes there and I must say that I am happy with the service I have gotten thus far. Before I went to Race Pace I was a member at Performance bike. I personally like the Performance bike shop a little better because there are always sales (their a chain store) and deals that I can take advantage of. I would consider Race Pace to be the "mom and pop" type store, but with way better bikes. When the weather is nice they also host rides around the local areas. I have been on a couple of these rides and the leader always checks with us to make sure the pace is good. Everyone is extremely friendly and there were several times where tubes, or other things were given out during the ride and you could just "pay whenever". Overall I feel the store is great. They do a good job and are people I would trust. The prices are a little bit higher in some cases, but that always seems to be the case regardless of any store you go to. read more

Me and my coworker/friend just purchased bikes from this store. We made two trips, the first time to see that they had and test ride a few bikes and the second time to actually make a purchase. We bought our bikes from this store more because of convenience (its 5 minutes from work) then because of the quality of service or products. Not that either is lacking, but just we were too lazy to go anywhere else and price out the competition. That said, both times we had knowledge representatives, although the first time, the guy seemed to know a lot but just didn't take the time to actually tell us what he knew. The second trip in, the representative, a young boy, seemed to be more forthcoming with how things worked and the real differences in the bikes we were considering. That said, he could have been (and probably was) feeding us a load of crap--afterall, we don't know jack about bikes. But it "felt" more user-friendly to me, so that's what mattered. This place pushes the Trek bike's for mountain bikes, but this was fine for me. My previous mountain bike was a Trek, and since I don't know jack about bike's and didn't have a problem before, i was fine with another Trek. It was actually really funny because after we dropped $700-$800 for the bike and accessories, I remembered I wanted a map of the Columbia trails and the kid was nice enough to throw it in for free, afterall, he said, we had just spent a lot of money in the store. Wow, a $2 map! Thanks, kid! I guess I should be grateful, I got the map for free... I'll try to remember to come back and update this review in the future, since I'll be dealing with them again for tuneups and repairs and things. For my first experience, this store was good enough for learning a little about bikes, finding resources to use for more information, and selling us decent entry level mountain bikes for beginner off-road riding. read more

As a bike rental business owner, from time to time clients have a mechanical problem with a bicycle and need help with how to fix the problem. Recently a client called me from 60 miles away and said they had broken the derailleur on a rental bike. With a search, I found Race Pace to be nearby the client, and I contacted them. They assured me they would take priority care of my client and resolve the problem. Indeed they did. For a fair price, they had the problem solved within a short time of the client arriving, having prepared for the repair after my call. As they promised, they called me back with a report, so I would not worry that I had a client out with a bad bike, and they emailed me a copy of the repair receipt for my records. Services was excellent, and the extra effort to call me and fill me in, plus email the receipt, showed an excellence that is rare in this business. read more

I stopped in yesterday to have someone take a look at my son's bike. The brake line had popped out, and the bike was slightly out of alignment due to a little accident. The employee who fixed the bike was so friendly and helpful. I wish I would have gotten his name. I was expecting to have to drop off the bike for service, but he took care of it in just a few minutes. We will most likely be in the market for a new bike soon, and we will absolutely go to Race Pace in Ellicott City!! read more

Yes, this place is more expensive than, for example, Performance Bike. But these guys at Race Pace are very knowledgeable and stand behind their products and services. (Although, in fairness, so does Performance Bike ... they gave me a full refund on the bike that they sold to me which, it turns out, was the wrong bike for me. Performance's salespeople's knowledge, though, don't even come close to Race Pace's people's knowledge.) Chris, the salesperson, explained everything to me, differences and similarities between the bikes. And he gave me a great price, too. Yes, I spent more than I wanted (totally my choice!) ... but I got a really nice bike and, overall, a better value than what I got at Performance Bike. read more

I've bought two bikes here. I purchased one in July 2017 and another this year. The staff is always friendly and happy to help and talk about bikes. However, on their website, it says they offer 3 point performance bike fit as follows: "This fit is included with any new bicycle purchase and includes a consultation with a trained bike fitter." This is a service they charge you $75.00 for if you just come in off the street with a bike you bought somewhere else. So, you would think it's pretty involved. That sounds pretty good if they do it for free with your purchase. Except, they don't. At. All. In neither case was I offered a bike fit of any kind with my purchase and I wouldn't know what the bike fitter looks like because I never saw him. In addition, I recently brought my bike into the shop for a much needed tune-up. They got done sooner than expected. I went to the store to pick it up and I paid the $200, which included a new chain and brake cables. I chatted with two employees for a few minutes and one had to take a call. The other employee and I talked a little longer and the conversation turned to bike weights. I mentioned that I was curious what my road bike weighed and asked if they had a scale. The employee said, and I'm quoting here, "Well, I'm not clocked in and everyone is pretty busy, so..." SO, fill in the blanks. He couldn't be bothered to help a customer with something that would cost Race Pace absolutely nothing. It would have been a courtesy to a customer who had spent thousands (literally) in their store. He could have said, "If you give me a few minutes, I'll get you some help with that." But, that's not what happened. I left. Then, I got their survey email. I replied truthfully, trying not to embellish anything. I got a phone call from a nice guy who I presume is a manager. He apologized and offered to let me bring my bikes in and get the 3 point fit now, at no charge. But unfortunately, I don't need that service anymore. I took care of it without their help. I love my Trek bikes and I love being able to shop them in person. But Race Pace is just another box store that ran the smaller stores out of town. They sell bikes and they sell services, but they deal in volume and an individual customer doesn't mean much to them. They won't go out of their way. At least they haven't for me. read more

I have been riding bikes before SIS and rode MTB before suspension, so I have dealt with numerous bike stores, mainly in California and a few large chains here in MD. I will say, I was blown away by the level of customer service and the extra mile, the staff of the Ellicott City city store has gone to to resolve a problem with my bike as well as ensure that I can continue to ride. They gave me a rental bike until they can resolve my issue. the rental is the same quality as my ride. Aside from their stupendous customer services, their selection of accessories and clothing is fantastic. Their prices are very competitive. If you are in the market for a bike, I would highly recommend them, no hesitation. read more

This is a nice local bike shop in E.C. Easy to get to, knowledgeable friendly staff, and a great selection of bikes, clothing, and accessories. I'm only giving 3 stars because I just bought a brand new bike and a bunch of accessories for it, and it would have been nice if they had waived the labor costs for hooking up the rack and fenders I'm buying from them. I feel pressured when I am in this store. When I enter, they immediately ask what I am "looking for". It is more polite to ask "do you need any help?" if they must question my presence. They resist selling me parts. They question what I am telling them about my bike. They want me to bring my bike in. Or, they want me to get a different bike, my bike is too cheap. Even if I needed a bike, I doubt I would buy a bike from them. Although they have well known brands and competitive prices, I prefer cheaper. read more

The staff is extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They are more than eager to help get you what you need or solve any problems you are having. Beyond getting yourself geared up you can join a number of weekly road rides during the spring, summer, and fall or indoor spinning classes throughout the winter. One of the things I love most about Race Pace is that they do not cater to a specific cycling niche (i.e. racers vs. recreational cyclists). read more

Tech gave me attitude and refused to do the work because I didn't want everything done that he suggested. Pointed out the time it took for the estimate. Offered to pay for estimate but they are free and they get paid hourly. I pointed all this out to the manager. So you'd rather have none of my business instead of some. 2nd time I've been talked down to and last. Ive been riding and repairing bikes before you were born. Im not a pro thats why i go to the shop. When you give me an estimate for something i can do myself cheaper but willing to pay you to do some of it........ stfu Been go there when they were at their old location. Me and 3 other friends were looking to buy some really nice expensive bikes and someone referred to us this bike shop.The store was very nice and had a huge selection of high quality bikes, which were pretty expensive compared to other bike stores. We came in with a budget of $1,500 but we saw a couple that were around $2,000 that we were really interested in purchasing that day. But the whole time we were there, i could feel the employees staring at us as if we were trying to steal the bikes, and kept coming up to us to ask multiple redundant and useless questions. I could tell that one of the more annoying lady there was probably the owner. We told them we knew everything about the bikes we wanted and we don't have any questions of any sort. There were about 3 other "older" people in there at the time but they didn't pay attention to them like they did to us, and didn't ask them nearly as many questions. We're in our 20's and they probably thought we couldn't afford them, but it made us feel uncomfortable. They had that "what are you guys doing here, you guys probably can't even afford our cheapest bike in the store" attitude and didn't make me or my friends want to spend any money in that store so we left and just went elsewhere. If they're going to act like we don't have any money, why should we give them our business. Just a tip, if you don't look like you can afford their bikes, they will make you feel like you shouldn't have stepped even just a foot inside their building. The bikes were amazing, and the customer service i imagine would have been good if they weren't so quick to be label us as hooligans. Stay far away if you can't afford bikes in the $1,000's because they will make you feel like trash. read more

We recently bought a bike from them for my wife. It was a major purchase, a Trek Madone WSD. We visited all the bike stores within a 50 mle radius, and the crew here really impressed us with their knowledge and patience. My wife actually tried 3 bikes, spent 3 hrs there & they were still attentive. This is a 40 mile round trip for us, but I'd never buy a bike anywhere else! I have a bike rack that I purchased from another bike shop. It's the kind of rack that the support piece goes into a trailer type hitch. A key part was lost and I could not hook up the rack to my car to use. I went to the dealer that I bought the rack from- well... this other shop could not get the correct part even though they said they called the factory several times. Seven months later they still couldn't get the right part - talk about incompetence! So I took the bike rack to Race Pace- even though they do not carry this line (Yakima) (RacePace carries Thule) they called the Yakima rep and got the piece in 5 days!!!! Talk about competence!!! And great customer service!!!!! So recently I needed my road bike tuned up and took it in to Race Pace. The tech (Patrick) did a great job explaining to me how I could better maintain my bike and pointed out potential problems. I was so impressed that the next week I brought in my wife's bike and my MTB to be tuned. Race Pace will for now on have my family's bike business!!! I went to The Race pace In Columbia this afternoon i'm going to buy a road bike and a mountain bike with-in the next week, I live in Owings Mills, there is a Race pace in Owings Mills that iv'e been going to for a while but i wanted to check out the Columbia shop, i made the trek out there and it was huge but the big turn off was the customer service was way lacking, So i decided since i'm in the area why not go to the Normandy shopping center location and right when i walked in I was greeted by a gentleman who was way nice and helpful and for the minute i walked in to the minute i left the shop i got nothing but grade a+ service and more knowledge than you could shake a stick at, The gentleman who helped me was a Racer/Seasoned rider and was the best again grade A+++++ service, he was not the type of person who was trying to sell me on what was expensive, i went in with a price and he stayed way way way lower than my price.I was in the store to buy two Trek's a XC mountain and a Road bike.This particular location Gets my vote for best shop/service in The area along with 20 twenty cycles.Oh and did i mention i saw a friend of mine who works at the Normandy shop as well. I'm not a seasoned pro buy any means but i know quite a bit, The guys in the Shop actually race bikes and ride their bikes and sell the bikes they ride themselves so they know what their talking about.I like the people who actually ride/race/fix bikes for a living not just sell them.So again A+++++ service and knowledge. read more
