Came across Misty through an Airbnb advertisement and was able to contact her easily through email. We went out for a 2.5 hour ride this past Sunday and enjoyed seeing things we hadn't realized were there before as well as getting a really good feel for how the neighborhoods connect one to another. Misty is personable and shared lots of stories and recommendations for eateries. We especially enjoyed getting up close to Camden Yards for the first time. The bikes are pretty new and easy to ride and wearing a reflective vest made us feel safer in the city traffic. Would just suggest a few more photo opportunities although our requests were happily obliged. If you're looking to get a real good feel for and overview of the Inner Harbor and surrounding area look Misty up; she'll be sure to deliver.

I was very disappointed when I arrived at my DC "Fat Tire" bike tour. I have been on Fat Tire…read moretours before and all of their bikes are street cruisers that are super comfortable and easy to ride. When we pulled up it was clear that this was not an actual fat tire tour. Fat Tire as partnered with a local existing bike company called "Bikes Unlimited". To make sure that I got a tag-a-long for my youngest, as I know those go faster, I reached out to to fat tire customer support for instructions since I didn't see the option at check out. They advised that I put that in the notes section of the reservation. Bikes Unlimited informed me when we got there that they don't even see these notes. The only bike they had that would fit me and pull a tag-a-long was a men's mountain bike. The bar on the bike was so high that it was up my butt when I had my feet on the ground but the bike was overall too small for me when riding because the seat had to be low so I could touch the ground with the high bar. The seat was rock hard and I tweaked my back from being bent in half. I had been expecting a road cruiser they advertise on the fat tire website so riding around on a mountain bike that was both too big and too small was a bit of a disappointment. They did have cruiser style bikes that my other family members were able to use but they did not have a way to connect those to a tag-a-long. All of the other people in our tour were on standard type mountain bikes and not fat tire cruiser type bikes. Also when I reached out to the customer service line there was not option for US tours. This is because this is not a US Fat Tire Tour. This is some sort of agreement where the Bike's Unlimited Company is paying Fat Tire to be listed on their website as a Fat Tire tour. So I could not even reach the company to let them know we had gotten lost and would be there shortly when we were running behind. All that said, our tour guide was great and aside from being uncomfortable the bike tour was a great way to see all the monuments. It looks like it was also a little cheaper to book with kids via fat tire. I recommend you check out the bikes unlimited website to understand what types of bikes they have and then call them directly if you have issues or want to make sure to reserve a specific type of bike in advance. If you need a tag-a-long make sure to bring a tall person with a good back who can ride a mountain bike and you should be fine. Had I known ahead of time what to expect might not have been so disappointed with my overall experience. Starting out stressed and frustrated sort of soured the whole experience.

Their affiliate "Unlimited Biking" does and as a result, the Integrity, Professionalism, and Experience you are used to from a Fat Tire- run tour is absent from the unaccountable, dishonest, and unfriendly staff that Unlimited Biking provides. After showing up to check in ahead of our 10:30 AM tour time today, we were told what we booked is not what we would be receiving. When asked if we could receive what was represented on the websites, we were told no. No refund was offered - a classic bait-and-switch. On July 11, we booked the "Best of DC Electric Bike Tour" on the FatTireTours website for $79 each X 4. What was supposed to be a 3.5 hour tour, ended up being 2.5 hours. For this tour, the description says " Our electric bike tours operate in groups of a maximum of 8 people", however there were 14 people on our tour. The description indicates that we would be seeing the Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Union Station, The Jefferson Memorial, and the Tidal Basin. None of attractions were on our tour. The description also represents that we will be making a "Brief stop for lunch", however this did not happen either. Most importantly, the representation of this particular tour was that it would be an "Electric Bike Tour". In fact, the description of the tour boasts " No other tour on our menu covers as many sites as this one!". But instead, we were on a regular tour, with regular bike riders. We were given Electric Bikes, but since all the other riders on the tour had regular bikes, we could not take advantage of the benefits of the electric bikes. We spent the majority of the time, coasting, or braking while we waited for children on the rest of the tour on their non-electric bikes to keep up the pace. The tour was slow and we saw less. When I asked for the tour that we paid for, Emily M said "you are getting an "Electric Bike Tour....you are on a bike Tour and you have Electric Bikes", ignoring the fact that all other representations on both Fat Tire and Unlimited Biking websites clearly differentiate the Electric Bike Tours from all other tours. Subjectively adjusting the English language to defensively tell me, the customer, that I was incorrect, is a disgrace to customer service. At the end of the tour, Emily said "I understand there was a miscommunication on the Fat Tire Website that hasn't been updated" and offered us TO PAY MORE to take the 6:30 PM tour for half-price. When I asked for a refund, she refused, saying that it's a third-party mistake. When I told her the description on the Unlimited Biking website says all the same things in the description of the Electric Bike Tour, she said "oh, we'll have to look into that" and ended the conversation. Such a fun tour! The weather prediction was calling for rain so they kept in touch with multiple…read morecalls to check if our schedule allowed flexibility with the weather changes. Scooters had a chance to practice in the lot before we got on the road. We actually started an hour earlier to try to avoid the worst of the rain. We came prepared for the weather in a convertible! Raincoat. Check. Big umbrella to cover our seats and plastic sheets to shield our legs. Check. Good shoes for mud. Check. We were offered plastic ponchos but they were pretty flimsy. The car interior was definitely not pristine. Coolers were provided with water. We also kept a towel and valuables we wanted to keep dry in there. We picked the yellow smart car which quacked when you hit the horn. The cow car mooed. Every Amish kid pumped their arms for us to hit the horn. We meandered through the quiet countryside. We stopped at a goat farm, leather shop, souvenir store with coffee and delicious fresh pretzels then an ice cream stop. Come prepared and have fun. Sounds like they will no longer offer the scooters in the near future.

We stopped at a leather maker/store, a cheese store, a creamery and a country store with animals that also sold pretzels and soft serve icecream. The entire trip was about 2 hours. The tour guide was very friendly. The cars were pretty dirty and beat up but still cute and fun to drive. It was so interesting to actually meet some of the Mennonite people working in these locations. We did feel obligated to buy something at each location, especially being the only people on the tour, but we found things we actually wanted to purchase without issue. Overally, we would highly recomend. We did the "country roads excursion".

This review is for "Tubing" down the Gunpowder River with Monkton Bike rentals…read more The only real nit to pick is parking... The lot for Monkton Bike rental only holds about 7 or 8 cars and the public parking area at NCR Station Trail next door only has about 20 spots and fills up early even on weekdays. So arrive early (before noon) to avoid any parking hassles. Also, to reviewer Cindy M who lost her mind because hauling her "beer cooler" 30 minutes to the river entry point was such as hassle... If she had taken 2 seconds to review Monkton Bike's website or the Tubing instructions clearly posted on the wall inside the Monkton Bike rental office. She would have known that alcoholic beverages on the river are prohibited not only by Monkton Bike Rental but also by Maryland Department of Natural Resources since this area is designated as state park. Moral of the story: Leave you coolers at home. If you have to be drunk to have a good time, this location isn't for you. So, the walk (even on a hot day) is pretty simple since the path stays relatively cool because it's completely shaded by the forest canopy. It's 15 minutes up the trail to the 1st entry point if you want a 1-1/2 hour float. And 30 minutes to the 2nd entry point if you want a 2-1/2 hour float. Also NOTE - The easiest way to carry your tube is to put it on your head and let it hang over your back. You may ask, "How does a 30 minute walk turn into a 2-1/2 hour tubing ride and how do I get back to my car?", (because so did we the first time). From the entry points the river winds around a lot and carries you along at a lazy pace with the exception of a few small ripple rapids that offer a little acceleration. Your final exit point at the first bridge you see is only about 100 yards from Monkton Bike Rental where you started. This is not one of those locations where you really have to worry about water levels or how long it's been since the last rain. The water in Gunpowder river stays at a pretty constant level since it's fed from the dam upstream, which guarantees a steady flow of water to keep the trout alive in the river. The other affect of water being fed from a deep water reservoir is that the water is crystal clear most days and stays at a cool 60 degrees. But on a hot day the cool water is a blessing and actually feels good since you'll be in the sunshine for quite a bit of your journey down stream. There are some shallow spots in the stream, but there are always places you can push off to with your feet that are deep enough to keep even adults from dragging. (We never had to stand up and walk with our tubes once). Average depth is 1.5 feet, but there are several spots that are 4-5 feet deep too if you want to toss the tubes on shore and take a refreshing dip. Which also reminds me, WEAR WATER SHOES, or something you don't mind getting wet. There are a few sandy spots and grassy spots, but most of the river bed is gravel. So if you do decide to get out and wade around, the bottom isn't going to be comfortable on bare feet. My final tip is that if you want to tie your tubes together you'll need to bring your own string, rope, or whatever. But the river doesn't move that fast and you really shouldn't haven't any problems keeping your group within sight of each other. When adults are tethered together they usually end up just hanging each other up on trees and rocks in the river, so it's not worth the hassle. The only exception to this might be if you have a small child that you would feel safer with if they're tethered to your tube. Bottom line, it's a great way to spend a lazy few hours drifting down a tree lined scenic river without driving all the way to Harper's Ferry WVA, Gunpowder River and Monkton Bike Rentals is a GREAT local tubing spot that is family friendly and great even for small kids.

Drove up from Bethesda with a group of friends and family to rent tubes here like we've done every…read moreyear for 5 years. I called ahead to see if they were open and the guy who picked up the phone said yes, until 2p. We jump in the car for the 1.5 hr drive, pull up at 1:55p, and walk up to see a sign on the door that says CLOSED. Called the # I had and same guy picks up saying he is already halfway home and that credit card machine was turned off, now it's only cash, and then asks me what it be worth to him if he came back. I told him I could pay via Cash App or check, or hit an ATM. He said no ATM nearby and that they don't do cash apps or check...and then told me he was "old school". I told him that if he was "old school" he would have stayed until 2p like he had told me on the phone, and I hung up to tell my group we needed to find something else to do. No more than 5 minutes later this guy appears out of nowhere running up to me aggressively while screaming obscenities in front of families with young children coming out of the bike shop, "are you the m-fer I just talked to on the phone!?!! Are you the one who said I broke my word!?!" Yeah, I told him, that was me. He then stuck out his chest and walked around me like he wanted to fight me right there in the parking lot. I tried to cool the situation down by asking if we could do business, and he screams in my face "I'm charging you 4x the cost, it's now $120 per tube!!!" I reached into my ice chest to grab a beer to think about it, and the guy pulls out his phone and starts recording my car, license plate, then calls the cops saying I was drinking in a public park (even though I didn't open the beer). He finally walked off, my guess is that he realized I wasn't going to fight him. If it wasn't for my cool temperament this easily could have got physical. Anyway, we drove 10 minutes away to Dicks Sporting and bought great river tubes and saved $80. I've never experienced anything like this, and will never give this business another dime. I suggest everyone avoid them. The river on the other hand is fantastic, so we will be back to tube again....and with our own tubes!
