I booked a "Therapeutic Table Massage" with Shannon Trudeau and had a very traumatic experience…read more When I arrived I explained to her I like firm pressure and was having issues with my shoulders and neck and upper back being very tight and I would like to primarily focus on those areas. The first 30 minutes of my massage were her guiding some sort of yoga nidra exercise with no actual massaging. I had to ask her when the massage would actually start. She seemed to have a huge ego about the request and continued her guided exercise. Once she did start "massaging" me, it was just her placing her hands on my body very lightly and doing static holds on trigger points. I explained to her I would Like more muscle stimulation in the form of a faster deeper massage but she didn't listen to my requests and kept doing the things she was doing that I did not ask for. She didn't pay attention tho the specific areas that I came in to address and spent most of the time on my arms and legs. She talked the majority of the massage and kept instructing me to take deep breaths. I do not come in to this for a therapy session which is what it felt like. The table was cold and so was the room. I had to ask her to turn the heat on the table mid session because I was freezing and her hands were freezing. She did not seem to have any knowledge of anatomy, massage, or draping. After the session was over she sat me down and wanted to go over her "findings" and it felt really uncomfortable having someone tell me all the areas in my body she noticed I was tight but not actually using the time I paid for to resolve any of those issues. I did not book a trigger point massage, a reiki session, or a therapy session. I mentioned to her multiple times I was not wanting the type of "massage" she gave me and she said that "energetically we may not be a good fit" - in my option this is such a rude thing to say to someone who was very clear about the massage I wanted to receive and requested it multiple times only to be completely ignored - probably because this person is not educated enough or capable of doing actual massage. This practitioner is borderline harmful and should not be practicing any healing modality. I felt disgusting after leaving her session. I felt completely ignored and judged. I debated weather or not I should leave this review but after experiencing this I wanted other people to know the potential harms of booking with this practitioner. Please remove her from "therapeutic table massage" because she didn't actually massage me and this is really misleading for customers.

This was my first visit to Amaka's and I had a 10am appointment this morning with Quavis. I arrived…read moreat 9:50am to be greeted by no one at the front desk. I could hear a man in the back talking on the phone and I first thought that was my stylist, so I said "hello...hello" but no response. He continues to talk on the phone. So, I looked around the lobby for a minute and then took a seat. I called Quavis at 9:55 to let him know I was at the salon. He said he was on his way and was running late. So, I sat there for a few more minutes and a young lady arrived (another stylist) and she asked if I was being helped and I told her that I was waiting on Quavis and I called him and he stated that he was running late. She nodded her head up and down and reiterated that she wanted to make sure I had been helped. I thanked her and after a few more minutes (10:13am to be exact), I called Quavis back and asked how much longer would he be because I didn't know if I needed to reschedule. He said that was up to me but he was coming up the stairs. When he got to the salon, he grumbled "good morning I'll be with you shortly" (or in a minute...or something like that). At that point, I was not feeling this appointment! So, after pondering for a moment, I walked towards the back where he went and called his name (because I was going to cancel the appointment). He didn't answer, so I went back out front and removed my name from the sign in sheet. When he came back out to the lobby, I told him I'd need to cancel or reschedule because we were already behind schedule. He looked me up and down and said "well if that's what you want to do...". I asked him if he was ok this morning. He said yes. I said that I didn't get an apology or anything and told him I'd removed my name from the sign in sheet. I told him to have a good day and left. I was very disappointed because I was expecting so much more from this salon. I'm sure the owner would be unhappy to know that this is how one of her stylists treats new customers.

She then made her wait a half hour at reception just to tell her that she'd moved all her other appointments forward. We both took time out of our schedules for this, just to be refused service. Maybe their work is outstanding, we wouldn't know, but the customer service and communication is substandard, as such we'll find another salon.
