I've gone ashiatsu and now I can never go back. Julie and Jes are amazing--truly the best massages of my life. If you like deep tissue, acupressure, and a really grounding massage, this is the spot. If you've never tried ashiatsu, do it. What these folks do with their feet is amazing and I think it feels soooo much better than a massage with hands (broader, deeper pressure). I work at a desk and my neck, shoulders, back, and hips pay the price, so I see Jes monthly to work things out. She is so creative and changes her approach every visit, so it never feels like the same old thing. Plus, her head/face massages are her secret gems! She always listens to me and focuses on what I want, adds heat, has great music, and a calm manner. I truly can't get regular massages elsewhere anymore, Bull City Soles spoils me! Julie changed my life. :) I've suffered from chronic migraines for years & tried so many different things (including a different Rolfer) but nothing worked. By my second Rolfing session with Julie, my headaches went away completely. I had not felt relief in so long. I've continued to see her when I hit a rough patch & it always helps. It's been about a year & my chronic migraines have not returned. She's helped me address other issues & ailments, always patient & caring. She's also referred me to other types of practitioners when she feels I might benefit from a different type of care. This type of honesty is deeply appreciated, & I really feel like her commitment lies in making sure her clients heal. My husband has also loved working with Julie. The space is really nice, too. Lastly - bc I wish people talked about this more - as can often happen with bodywork, there was one session where some past trauma surfaced for me unexpectedly. In those scenarios, I have often felt ashamed & embarrassed by my reactions bc they often come flying out of nowhere & can be difficult to control. Not all practitioners I've worked with seem prepared for this or able to offer trauma-informed care, but Julie's calm & gentle presence in this moment made me feel extremely safe, respected, & seen in my moment of vulnerability. The establishment has an aura of compassion & caring, made obvious from the moment I was greeted by the receptionist, Suzanne. This atmosphere carries over into & throughout the therapy session. Julie is a highly skilled advanced Rolfer, who is also able to draw upon her years of experience in other physical therapies. Her expertise has granted me relief from a condition that conventional medicine's physical therapy was unable to alleviate. Don't be alarmed that there are not many Yelp reviews of this place - it appears that this company routes feedback requests to Google, so you'll probably see a lot more there! That being said, this experience was excellent from start to finish. Sarah was very knowledgeable, and asked the right questions to understand where to focus (without turning it into an interview/interrogation). She found a number of other long-term ailments that I was suffering from during the session (e.g. an IT band that feels like a giant old rubber band) and made sure to focus on those as well. I usually get deep tissue massages, but now I think I may have to switch to Ashiatsus! They provide the same amount of pressure, but since the pressure is delivered through a foot (greater surface area), it never feels like you are being poked or prodded. 5 stars! I don't live in the area, but I know where to go the next time I come back for a business/personal trip. read more

I have had excellent experiences with the massage therapy trainings provided here. Julie has been an incredible Ashiatsu teacher to learn from. I have taken all three levels of ashiatsu training here over the last year and a half and am incredibly pleased with quality of the instruction that I have received and the overall learning experience. The location is ideal for massage therapy trainings with a teaching room that is large enough for at least five tables to be set up at once. There are ashiatsu bars at different heights to allow for easy set up for therapists / students of different heights. The whole building has been newly renovated by Julie and it feels warm and welcoming. There is a nice lobby and treatment rooms in addition to the teaching room. There are also multiple bathrooms and a break room for students to use for classes. Julie's style of teaching has been very agreeable for me. I am a hands on learner ( in this case it is more like feet on) and I enjoy her demonstrations as well as her attention to making sure that all students get a chance to feel and experience the work from her as well. She has a relaxed and fun approach to teaching ashiatsu which makes the experience of going for CEU's more enjoyable; learning bodywork should be fun and enjoyable as well educational. The thing that I like best about Julie's teaching though is ability to make the most of "teachable moments'. There certainly are times when learning ashiatsu is difficult, it can be challenging and hard work. In the middle of those moments of struggle to learn something new I have seen Julie be extremely quick to identify what's happening, verbalize, demonstrate, and explain to a student how to make the necessary adjustments. I really appreciate that skill and ability. I have taken Barefoot Basics, Anterior / Side-lying and Advanced Ashiatsu with Julie now, and I definitely recommend taking all three levels of training. The Advanced Ashiatsu is definitely a whole new level of techniques and skills that I am extremely glad that I have committed to learning. It opens up so many more possibilities than I could have even imagined were possible. We learned to work up and down the body with both feet delivering graceful and powerful strokes to our clients. Now that I know this level of training, I think of what I was doing before as only half of the experience. These additional tools have added so much to my tool box; I'm excited to share everything with my clients and look forward to how I can serve new clients with my new capabilities. read more

I have always been curious about Ashiatsu massage and landed an amazing deal to have my first experience with Julie. I had only had a deep tissue once before (at another place, of course) and had not really been much of a fan, so needless to say I was skeptical when I learned that Ashiatsu goes very deep. Fortunately, my skepticism was quickly assuaged. Maybe I should have led with this: the other reviewers do not lie -- this was the best massage I have ever received!!! I am a big massage fan, usually getting 2-3 per year, and I have gotten several at top spas, big chains, highly acclaimed places, etc. This by far tops them all. Along the lines of what another reviewer has said, this is not a "surface soothing" kind of massage. Julie literally managed to work all of the knots out of my entire body. With that said, the massage did not by any means "hurt" like my prior experience with deep tissue; it was, to the contrary, quite relaxing - but in a very different sort of way. I do not have chronic pain, but I work on a computer and probably average about 50 hours a week hunched that way, if not more. I was finally able to stand straight after the massage! I did not even realize how much my posture was off until Julie was able to work all of the kinks out of me. For the first bit of the massage, my thoughts were along the lines of "wow, she listens to indie rock? She's playing my favorite bands!" and "how is she getting so deep?" and finally, "damn that feels good!" at which point I slipped into total euphoria and lost touch with thoughts until I had to scrape myself off of the table, only to realize that I felt like a completely different person. This put that saying to a whole new level! I was so serene afterwards that I even forgot to tip her and then drove to the wrong place, completely forgetting where I was going! I am now going to make it my mission to get many more massages here and tip her extra for my post-massage drunkenness. Believe me that if you get a massage here you will not regret it. I have had numerous massages over the years, with therapists who practice different styles. Among all of them, Julie Marciniak stands out as truly gifted. After the first six months of seeing her regularly, my chronic headaches, the result of a lot of arthritis in my neck following multiple car wrecks, disappeared. I used to take Advil and Tylenol routinely before going to bed, and now I can't remember the last time I did that. Julie practices Ashiatsu and Rolfing on me, and although it was uncomfortable at first, it has really paid off. Now, I've loosened up and it's much more pleasant. I'm a person who doesn't mind deep pressure, but obviously if you don't want that, you have full control over it, and she won't do it. She can just see where you are too tight or out of alignment and can target those spots. I just can't say enough good things about Julie and her practice. Plus the location is very convenient. As a chronic back pain sufferer who doesn't want to take meds for relief, the type of massage she offers is exactly what I needed! It is DEEP tissue and less "soft and soothing" than the type of massage you might get at a spa but the knots will get worked out and your pain will be relieved. I have never had the type of massage where the therapist uses her lower extremities (think: feet to back/body) but this is a great fit for what I need..which is deep pressure and a technique that's able to cover a larger area in the time provided. I'd hoped to have more focus on certain problem areas during this visit but getting a true full body massage reminded me I've been neglecting areas that actually did need attention. If I don't get a chance to return, it's only because Ityra managed to control my aches and pains in one session, before I move to Colorado. But, I do wish her much success at this great business. Ityra at North Pointe Body Therapies is truly the best massage therapist that I have ever worked with. I suffer from regular migraine headaches because of tension in my neck and shoulders, a problem that's only exacerbated by regular computer use for my work. I've tried everything from medication to exercise to visits with various doctors and other massage therapists to help with my headaches, but truly nothing has helped as much as working with Ityra has. She is extremely skilled at working out trigger/pressure points, easing tension, and helping with relaxation. Beyond that, she is attentive, kind, and careful - if the Ashiatsu or deep tissue massages are too much, she's very responsive and helpful. The atmosphere at North Pointe, the experience is relaxing, and it couldn't be easier to make appointments. I was trying to book a massage session for myself, mom, sister, friend, and her mom. I thought I was good and ahead of time, but apparently I wasn't... I wanted to surprise everyone especially after a very brutal month that all of us had had. I made phone calls and wrote emails and even drove to the place to finalize my transaction. But when I got there I only got a locked door even in the middle or their working hours. I'm a former massage therapy student myself and I know how my client friendly environment was emphasized in school. But this was a long way from that in my humble opinion. Long story short, it just made me change my mind about the whole thing and instead think of something else us to do. I'm sure the therapists are great and that's what attracted me to this facility. But it was so distasteful to having to stand there for all of 22 min hoping someone would get the door. Needless to say I cancelled my session the same evening. I give this place 0 stars.
