I love to try local chocolate boutiques whenever I am on vacation, so this was at the top of my list. We went on Saturday after lunch and upon walking in found that we were the only customers in the store. We were offered a free sample of the liquid filled chocolate which was nice but the staff member helping us was very lackadaisical. When I asked which chocolate was better or more popular he had basically no response. Same goes for when we were asking about the bonbons. It just seemed that he did not care about chocolate at all, which is fine, but not a great person to have selling your product. We ended up purchasing a box of mixed bonbons and liquid filled chocolates. Overall the chocolate was fine but not amazing. I enjoyed the scotch filled dark chocolate the most and my husband said the hazelnut truffle was pretty good. If you enjoy chocolate this is still worth a visit if you are in town, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stop in. read more

We visit Quintessential Chocolates every time we are in Fredericksburg. Their truffles and fudge are absolutely heavenly. Once we get home, it is hard not to eat the whole box at once because they are delicious. At $2.80 for most truffles, they are pricier than one would expect, but totally worth it. Close to the Fredericksburg Winery, we walked over to this chocolate store. On a late Friday afternoon, there were few shoppers and the crew were setting up for the weekend. No matter, we wanted to check out their chocolates. We started with sampling their sample items. The Kentucky Bourbon was a winner! I must say that their prices will get your attention but their chocolates are of superior quality. We bought a few items that fit in a super small plastic bag and it set us back about $70. Overall, this is a great place to buy somebody special (a chocolate lover-lover or friend) to let them know how much you care. Blatant discrimination against service dog handlers. My wife and I visited on March 15th. I am a disabled person that uses a service animal to mitigate my disability. After waiting in line several minutes, an employee approached and said that even though my service animal is well behaved, she had to leave as they do not allow any animals in the store for any reason because they make food on premise. She then added that we must not have seen the sign in a condescending tone. I have several problems with this encounter: 1. Service animals are granted access where the public is granted access, regardless of health code via title 3 of the ADA. This right is further enforced by state law. There are very rare exceptions where a facility that is both open to the public and manufactures food is able to deny access to service dogs. This is limited to restaurants where access to the kitchen is part of the experience. But as a general rule, if the kitchen is not directly accessible to the public, the areas that are accessible to the public must be equally accessible to disabled people with their service animal. This store had a food prep area behind a counter and WOULD NOT be exempt from requiring access for service animals. 2. The condescending comment about the sign is ridiculous. I understand that Fredericksburg is generally dog-friendly, so I naturally assumed that the sign meant no pets. That is a reasonable request. It does not specify service animals in any way. 3. The employee wouldn't go far enough as to actually ask me to leave. This is a major problem because I've been discriminated against, but don't have any meaningful documentation. Usually, you would be asked to leave, then you refuse until the police arrive to trespass you. The police either inform the owner of the state law (they are not able to enforce federal law), or they formally trespass you and provide an incident report. I could then use that incident report as proof and sue at both the state and federal level for discrimination. It also makes filing a request for criminal charges much simpler. 4. The person refused to identify herself. I don't know if she was the owner, a manager, or a rank and file employee. Without that paper trail, I'm upset, no longer wish to support their business even if they would serve me, and don't have the necessary support to escalate in a meaningful way to correct their behavior for the next guest with a service animal. In short, I can't speak on the chocolate as I was not permitted to sample or purchase anything due to having a service animal. Every other restaurant and store in Fredericksburg was perfect for me and my dog. I'm not sure why this is the one shop that doesn't know the law. read more

First of all, the service we had was fantastic, the lady who helped us was incredibly helpful and attentive to us, plus she had great recommendations. They have a reasonably large selection of sweets but our personal favorites were these little chocolates filled with liquid cappuccino, they're highly addictive and you're gonna want to buy quite a bit but thankfully if you want more once you leave town, it's all good, they will ship them to you and that's awesome. I visited the store in April and was very pleased. I went back on May 30, 2025, and was very disappointed with the milk chocolate peanut clusters. They were extremely salty and inedible. I reached out to the store on May 31, 2025 but have not heard back from them. Apparently, they must not care about customer satisfaction. This chocolate is not inexpensive. read more

Love how you get one free sample (the hook...LOL) and if you're over 21 they have wine and alcohol filled delights. The chocolates are amazing and the liquor ones...INCREDIBLE. I've had many alcohol filled chocolates, but none ever tasted like my "free sample" Pecan St Rum. While the outer shell is dark chocolate, you feel like you're sipping on some pecan rum too. A wonderful combination of flavors that don't overpower, but magnify each other's specific character. I was also impressed with owner Lecia Duke's creation of a Purple Heart confection honoring the military and combat wounded veterans. If you are a Veteran, you get one free and it is a beautiful piece of chocolate artwork. I read an article about her...seems she did an apprenticeship at Lindt...one of my favorite chocolates. 1 star. Customer Service leaves a lot to be desired! When walking in the door the first thing we heard was "make sure they don't steal anything". There were 4 people working behind the counter and we had 6 people in our party that came in to get chocolates The workers appeared to be more ready to get off work than to sell chocolates. We asked how much the strawberries were and if they were made fresh today. They gave us the price and then went on to discuss amongst each other that they would be throwing them out at closing because they were made the day before. Does not make them sound very appealing! I rented an Airbnb for my anniversary. My bf surprised me with chocolates from here. I opened them right away. I was enjoying my chocolates until I bit into one of them and there was LONG STRAND OF HAIR STUCK IN THE CHOCOLATE. After taking pictures of it I pulled the hair and it just kept going. I was greeted by one of the staff upon entering and started to check out the chocolate in the cases. There was a wide variety in the forms of chocolates - (assortments, spirit filled, coffee filled, nectar filled, ganaches, silks, barks) and I'm sure more that I haven't named. Just look and I'm sure you will find something you want to try. I tried an almond chocolate orange (orange infused chocolate with almonds/almond slivers in top). Very good! The chocolate is sold by the weight and is well worth it. It's very cool because they make all their own chocolate there in the shop. When you think about the skill that goes into making chocolate just right, it's saying a lot about the time, effort and heart they're willing to put into their product, which should say so much about them. There's even an area (in a room next to the sales area) where you can watch the chocolate making process. a fun way to spend time in a sweet way. read more

I can here when I visited Fredericksburg. It is conveniently located on Main Street. They have N assortment of rich chocolates. They are able to give you free samples if you are interested in purchasing a particular chocolate but you want a sample before you make your final decision. Wasn't sure what to expect when coming here. I've heard they had amazing chocolates but boy let me tell you. The chocolate was so good, it made me want to slap my momma. My husband and I had almost had a chocolate heart attack coming here. We literally almost purchased everything. Their chocolate crisp is delicious, I enjoyed their chocolate caramel turtles both white chocolate and dark chocolate. I loved how they let you sample their chocolate before buying which is always a huge plus for me. It wasn't super busy when we came but we did come 30 minutes before they were going to close I do recommend getting their earlier, that way you can make sure they have whatever you want in stock. The parking wasn't too terrible, granted we parked down the street to explore Main Street. One thing that I definitely have to recommend is trying their liquor filled chocolates. It wasn't my cup of tea, but it was very good. I did sample the Bourbon pecan chocolate which was insanely good. But the bourbon was very strong, and it did pair really nicely with the chocolate. We always make it a point to stop here when we're anywhere near Fredericksburg. We love the wine filled chocolates. They're different from other wine filled chocolates because they have a special process that maintains the integrity of both the chocolate and the wine. Our favorite is the cabernet, but they have lots of others. In fact, you can make your own. But wait, there's more! They have all kinds of truffles, fudge, bark, clusters and so on. And they have dark chocolate and milk chocolate. If you don't like chocolate, they have white chocolate. (Which isn't actually chocolate at all.) The people there are the best. Omg I've never tasted anything like this. Most liqueur filled candy is in a gooey form or jelly type middle but this one is pure liquid. The lady who makes these uses a technique with a sugar shell and actually traps the full liquor inside, not added after the candy is created. Absolutely love the craftsmanship of the liquor and wine-filled chocolates. My fiancé and I had met the owner while we were on a wine tour, and she told us to stop by her shop the following day, so we did. While she wasn't there, and we got there pretty late, the staff member was very friendly and happy to accommodate us. We had each had a sample of a liquor filled chocolate for him and a wine one for me, and they really were unique and absolutely special. We decided to buy a box of each, and we happily enjoyed them within the week of leaving and remarked each time on how special they were. I would absolutely recommend stopping into Chocolat if you're a chocolate fan, and especially if you are interested in trying liquor or wine filled chocolates. Lovin it! Chocolate is amazing. This is a good place to buy fancy looking gifts for friends. They've got this Aztec chocolate bar. It's a hand painted chocolate bar, with the scene of some Myan ruins on it or something. Painted with what looks like edible gold. And It's only about $4. Wow. I was shocked when I saw that. The liquid filled chocolates are amazing! They've got a gushy liquid center, surrounded by a wonderful encasing of crystallized sugar and then of course armored with that chocolate shell.
