    Simplot pond
    Bill H.

Great spot on a sunny day. Water sports are the key. Swimming, kayaking, SUP, any floatable you can carry. Rentals are done through Idaho River Sports (https://www.idahoriversports.com). Prices seem reasonable with canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddle boards available on first come first serve. The pond has several beach areas where you can find a spot to relax. The sand is a little course but it's Idaho not Aruba. Connects to Simplot pond for even more choices. Parking can get tight.

    New sandy beaches :)

The recent renovations to the banks of Quinn's Pond, as part of the larger Esther Simplot Park project, have made this pond even more recreationally accessible. Previously, Quinn's had limited accessibility with a narrow staircase and dock being the best option for entry on the north side of the pond. So, when we brought our family of four down to take turns paddleboarding, when not paddleboarding we were left to sit awkwardly on rocks (or the dock if it wasn't too busy). Not so anymore! The once dense shrubs have given way to a full fledged sandy beach. The greenbelt still branches off and runs by the north end of the pond, but is now flanked with green grass, saplings, benches, and, in one section, a picnic area. On warm days, the pond is filled with laughing children and dogs playing, as well as rafters, kayakers, and paddleboarders quietly skimming the surface. And, the beautiful thing? There's room enough for all. Does it get a bit busy on the weekends? Currently, as the sole portion of the Esther Simplot Park project that has been opened--yes. However, summer weekdays/evenings aren't as busy and, in my experience, even on busy days once you get a short distance into the pond and away from the boisterous beach play, serenity awaits. For those who had previously been making the trip out to Sandy Point to enjoy a little fun in the sun and sand--this is a great option that may be a little closer to home (for some). And, it's entirely free to enjoy. The Boise River Park is just a short walk away when you're ready for a break from the beach. And, conveniently, Idaho River Sports is a short distance away for paddleboard, kayak, and canoe rentals. If you can't find me this summer, you know where I'll be! Get to it!

My kids might be drowning behind the giant brown gazebo or big top tent someone brought. I cant see them nor access the shore.

We're lucky to have Quinn's Pond here. It's one of the few places where there's a sandy beach in town. The pond is really good sized for a lot of people to paddle board, kayak, etc. The only probleM is that the sandy beach cannot accommodate a huge number of people. There is a large grassy area above that adds a lot of room but it's such a new place that the trees are small and don't give a lot of shade yet. My complaint is not with the pond it's with the people that set up their huge canopies right down by the water. They take up a ton of space and block the view of the water. I try to monitor my kids while they are paddle boarding (there has been a drowning here) but I can't see past the obtrusive giant tents. How is a mom supposed to hang out near the kids in the shallow area and watch them play if people have the whole beach blocked? I would just suggest that large canopies NOT be allowed on the sandy shore. If you want to hog a whole area for yourself then go up to the grass. The smaller umbrellas or pop up shade are not a problem.

    Poop everywhere

It's beautiful but be prepared to be surrounded by poop... it grossed me out especially with kids/toddlers. I understand birds and wild life live here but can we please have the city manage a clean up or pay a landscaper.

This is a good read for anyone considering a guided fishing trip with Dream on the Fly. So, yes, no experience. I felt like the Karate Kid with his teaching technique. Presentation, mending, drifting, pointing the rod tip at the indicator, watching the indicator, casting and feeling the weight for whipping. It is pretty complicated, but his technique really helped me grasp the process and I felt pretty confident after an hour or so. I learned the hard way once or twice about respecting the power of these river trout. They are good sized and put up enough fight to break a line pretty easily. LET THEM RUN WHEN THEY FIGHT! Don't force them in too fast. Take your time, but keep your rod up and line tension tight. The scenery at The Owyhee River is gorgeous. In all, you will learn a lot with them about the river, fly fishing, and Idaho if you are a traveler. Great experience. We had some great catches and I learned so much. I would recommend this trip to anyone looking for a great fishing trip!

My first time in Boise, visiting a lifelong friend, we hired Mike Raymondi to be our guide on the…read moreOwyhee River for a day of catch and release trout fishing. The three of us, retired women with modest fishing experience and a love for nature, instantly felt at ease as he selected the waders, boots and gear in the well-organized TRR store in Eagle ( when you go there, look up, you'll have a fish's point of view- watery blown glass ornaments suspended from the ceiling). We followed Mike's truck to the river where he selected a sweet spot clear of snags and sunken hazards. The birds and awe-inspiring panoramic beauty made focusing on the orange indicator a bit of a challenge. Mike gave us a quick and articulate tutorial on casting, mending and setting the lines, then he spaced us out on the length of the river where he grew several sets of eyes, simultaneously guiding our line work and alerting us to the bobber's behavior, which you see before you feel anything. I missed several nibbles because I saw a tanager or a flicker, but we all hooked and I landed a big brown trout with lovely speckles and no wounds from the brief fight we had in reeling it in. The big takeaway about a good or bad day fishing, according to Mike, is this: hooking and landing combine a multitude of very different skills, and many people who say the fishing was bad, missed the nibble or the set, and failed to catch what fish were there. To me, there is no bad day of fishing if you are in the care of a competent guide, supplied with proper gear, a spectacular picnic lunch (kudos to Tasso in Eagle) and in an exceptionally beautiful piece of God's country, which was the case for us. Now for those of you who believe the only value in fishing is catch, catch, catch, this review will mean nothing. Mike mustered all of his powers to switch out the types of nymph flies (we were nymphing this time), and we had a spare afternoon, but you can't make fish eat when they don't wish to. Nonetheless, we felt satisfied, happy and properly looked after by TRR's professional guide service.
