Nice snappy casing and super good flavor, they also gave me a solid amount of them so I was able to save some for tomorrow. Mashed potatoes were seasoned very well, and was served with fried onions which were a bit salty, but I had them with the potatoes so I didn't really notice it. Stopped in for lunch on a rainy Saturday and was so happy we did (our first time here) Clearly, this is a neighborhood bar/restaurant, which can sometimes be a bit cold when it comes to service, but let me assure you, this is not the case. We had Maryann (sp?)as our server and by the end of lunch, wanted to adopt her. She was everything you love about a neighborhood place, the unofficial mom of the restaurant. One word of caution, I assume that if your going to ask "mom" for advice, you best be prepared to hear the truth, because Maryann doesn't know any other way. You've been warned. My friend ordered a Rueben which was huge and because we're in a pub, I went a bowl of French onion soup and fish & chips. My friend loved his Reuben, although it was too big to finish. I really enjoyed the soups, not too salty and the fish and chips really good and not too greasy. I couldn't finish the whole dish, but came close.... We were very happy with our experience and thought we'd come back for dinner, but sadly they don't take reservations. We asked about a weekend wait, and was told "it could be an hour or so". Not wanting to wait that long for dinner (but honestly would feel it's worth it!), we'll just stick to lunch for now. Can't wait to go back and hopefully be seated in Maryann's section; we really thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, atmosphere and great service and look forward to a near future return visit. read more

Here for the second day in a row on a two day trip. Apparently the chef's been here 30 years. Fantastic menu. Lots of great choices and everything I've had from bread (and real butter) and drinks and soups and salad and Cole slaw and lamb and duck have all been beautifully prepared. There's nuance and care. I get to this area 3 or 4 times a year. Each time I visit, I make sure I stop here for dinner. And by the way I also travel 2-3 weeks each month all over the US. What drew us to this spot outside of the ratings was the theme. We have been to Kong, Ireland where the movie was filmed and all the picture memorabilia did not disappoint. The food was good, we had the french onion soup with a very flavorful imported Swiss cheese. I had the fish (light batter, bice!) n chips which was a very good and plentiful dish. This place is so cute inside and out. It's a little snug when you first walk in as the walk way and front room is pretty narrow, but it's so cute! The bar is always packed and seems like a really cool spot to just hang out and have a few beers, but we've always been there for a sit down dinner and that's just as good. The fish and chips is the best I've ever had. Their fries are steak fries and they're crispy and not obnoxiously large and the fish is always super crispy and hot (the take out stayed crispy after a 15 minute ride home). Their homemade tartar sauce is so good. The chicken pot pie is good too. The pie itself is nice and flaky. I want to try different items when I go, but I can't help but order the fish and chips because I know I'll never be let down. I am pretty sure we have had the bread pudding or rice pudding... Can't really remember, but I know that we've had dessert and that we enjoyed it. The only thing that I was not into at all was the Irish coffee, but maybe that's because I was expecting Baileys and instead I got an authentic Irish coffee which consisted of some black coffee and whiskey and some milk. read more

So I had The Quiet Man Pub bookmarked for years...which is just stupid because it's 20 minutes from my house. Wifey, the kids and I FINALLY stopped in here for lunch a couple weeks ago and I was kicking myself for not getting here sooner. Such a nice little place. We came in after the lunch crowd so we were seated immediately and ordered drinks...two lemonades and two drafts - Sam Adams. We kind of hit some staples for our meals. My daughter had a crock of French onion soup, and she practically lickenbthe fish and chips and LOVED THEM. big portion so I took the leftovers and had them for lunch. They were better the first day, but still tasty...daughter says 5 stars. My son kept it simple with a bacon cheeseburger and also raved about it. Cooked perfectly with a nice seat and pink on the inside. He also hammered the fries. He only gave it 4 stars because he didn't think it was as good as a place he ate in Fredericksburg, VA. They were damn close so I say 4.5! Wifey kept it simple with an Italian Grilled Cheese. Very cheesy, very tasty and a 4 star sammich! I ordered the New England clam chowder as an appetizer. Crab cake they out on a roll for me. 4 star New England clam chowder. Didn't like it at all. Just my opinion. It didn't taste bad I just didn't like the consistency of the flavor. For my entree They were very nice and accommodated my request to have my crap as. sandwich. This was much better than the soup. Crab cake was large and filling and pretty good. After two days i the snow, went out for lunch on the Ides of March to combat cabin fever. I had the Manhattan Clam Chowder and instead of the usual fish and chips went for the Shepard's pie. Never a disappointment.. Had been a while so the Mrs and I went last night. Potato pancake app brought back child hood memories. The Mrs had the shrimp, mussels, clams, pasta special and I had the stuffed flounder w/crabmeat in a lemon/butter sauce special(I got the last one). Both were outstanding!! My in laws are big Quiet Man fans so we have gone a few times. I have never found the food to be that good and the last time we went, we went with friends who had never been. At the end of the meal everyone was pretty much in agreement that the food was fine. We all ordered different things from pasta, salad, steak and sandwiches and everything was just ok. I have gotten everything here from fish and chips to shrimp scampi to their crab cake nights and still everything is so underwhelming. I assumed it was what i ordered but now that I have tasted a variety I know it's not me. I told my husband that unless it's for his parents I see no point in a return visit. A great place! Very laid back. Super friendly locals serving some great dishes. A largely geriatric crowd, I was the youngest patron by at least 25 years. Lots of questions about "soup; what's the soup? The soup?! What's that? Lentil? Lentil?! Lentil?!!!" (a frightening looking glass into the future). And a lot of cruise talk. "oh my gawd, you're going to the Bahamas. Did you see that cruise ship that went into a squall?! A squall! Oh my gawd, I know I know that won't happen to you but oh gawd can you imagine how tippy?!".... "I know I know it's like The Poseidon Adventcha'! Oh my gawwwwd. Rememba' that movie? Liz Taylor falling down. Hey, hey how do you make a hot toddy? A hot toddy?! . . .and where's my soup?!" The excellent server "LaRay" introduced herself to everyone in the place as just "Ray" because it's just "easie-ah"and then was on a first name basis with everyone; as if you grew up in the place. Went again to Quiet Man this past weekend, this time with my wife, son, and a few of his friends. My previous review is going down one star, only because of food quality this time. I ordered the wings for appetizer, and they were just way off. So overly breaded, and with absolutely no sauce. I ordered them as hot as can be, and they were mild at best. Everyone at the table agreed as I shared. Will not ever order wings there again. I got the 15oz sirloin with onion rings and fries. The rings were a bit greasy, but let's remember, they are deep fried. My real disappointment came in the way my steak was delivered. I ordered medium rare, and this was medium well all the way. I'm just really not the type who returns a meal, then sits there with nothing while my dinner guests enjoy as my meal is prepared a second time. My roommate and I decided to go here for dinner on a Sunday night. Their small parking lot was full, but there was plenty of street parking. Walked in and were greeted with a smile and brought to a booth. Waitress came up right away and asked if we knew what we wanted to drink or if she could bring waters. Someone else immediately brought us some bread and butter. After bringing the waters quickly, we ordered our drinks. I must say the service here was excellent. Everything came out timely, but not rushed. Roommate ordered the Maine lobster ravioli and I ordered the grilled chicken breast and vegetables with whipped potatoes. Wow, everything on my plate was delicious! My favorite part was actually the grilled vegetables, they we just so good and packed with flavor. Not that I cared, but the presentation of the food on the plate was nice. My roommate said his ravioli was quite good too. Excellent food, excellent service, nice atmosphere, I will definitely come back. My only regret was not waiting an hour or so to come, we left just as live entertainment (looked to be one guy who was going to sing and play the guitar) was going to start. read more

I chose to go The Quiet Man pub because of the many wonderful reviews on Yelp. I went, therefore, expecting a great experience -- and all of my expectations were blown away. First, the service was impeccable from beginning to end -- the servers, hosts, and even bus staff were simply charitable and kind and quick to provide whatever you needed. I never felt imposed upon, nor did I ever wait for the things I wanted. My beverages were refilled before I even realized they needed to be, and done so at inconspicuous times that did not interrupt our conversation. The waiters avoided the ever-annoying "ask you a question after you've just taken a bite" routine, and provided clear reasons for their recommendations. The food arrived, and it was just as excellent as the service. I ordered the pan-seared duck breast over a port wine sauce with a chutney that was -phenomenal-, my son ordered the chicken fingers (more on those in a moment), my mother ordered gnocchi and my aunt ordered mushroom ravioli over eggplant rounds. My duck was seared perfectly, and the port sauce and chutney paired so perfectly that I truly felt I was eating in a Michelin starred restaurant. The gnocchi and mushroom ravioli were equally amazing -- the perfect ratio of mushroom to pasta dough. The mushrooms tasted fresh and potent, and the sauce they rested in was also excellent. Now, on to the chicken fingers -- when you are in a restaurant like this and order chicken fingers for your child you expect a throw-away deep fried piece of chicken. This was not what we got. We got chicken fingers executed with the same level of care and precision as my duck. The chicken was moist and tender, and the breading was phenomenal. It was simply the best chicken finger I ever tasted in my life -- it put all other chicken fingers to shame. I will be back to The Quiet Man pub. It was phenomenal. The one consistent thing in this pub is the food. Skip has been here for decades and the food is always very good. The front of the house has suffered with the passing of Frank Burke, when you entered his establishment he said he tried to welcome you and treat as if you are entering his home. After talking with "staff" no owners present, they stated they basically run the place, the three sisters are "semi retired". I've been coming here for years and Frank bussed, seated and hosted into his 80's. I hope someone in Frank's family can step up and run the front of the house and put there personal touch back on this place, nothing like like going to a restaurant from a patrons perspective, and being welcomed in by name or even if he didn't remember your name calling you pal or buddy and faking it well and making you feel welcomed! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I was not going to write this review, but it has left such a sour taste in my mouth and made all of us feel uncomfortable. Did not get to eat because of the overwhelming bad energy and staring faces from the staff and I'm guessing regulars. After going to a haunted house in the area a group of friends and I decided to find somewhere local to eat. This place came up on top on yelp and had really good reviews. When we came in there were plenty of empty tables but were told to wait and then the hostess proceeded to go sing. About 10 minutes pass and still no acknowledgement and then another couple, who seem to be regulars because they knew their names were seated right away. We were told to move so that they can sit. We just stood there being looked at like we were at a zoo and we were the main attraction. After 15 minutes we left. At first, I thought it was me feeling this way. NO we all felt it and decided to spend our money somewhere else. Horrible and sad experience. This looks like a local spot that hasn't moved on with time. Its dark and old looking inside. Hell yea! The Quiet Man has been serving up some of Morris County's best pub fare since '79. Comfortable setting, split between bar area and dining area. The grub is soul pleasing and the service is awesome. They are quick, provide ample portions and make you feel right at home. We had the chicken pot pie w/ a corn fritter, little neck clams app, shrimp bisque, and the fish and chips. Both entrees tasted extremely fresh and packed tons of flavor. The clams were swimming in a bath of broth that was insanely delicious. We shall return. read more
