Met another couple at The Quiet Man around 8:00 on a Saturday night. The place was small and packed - figured we were on to something since even that late there was a 25 minute wait. We put in our names and the manager/owner (very friendly woman) pointed us to a seat at the end of the bar. Fully stocked bar with some decent craft beer selections. I ordered the Ommegang Saison and hubby got a Duvel Begian beer and then a Schneider Weisse doublebock (I really liked that one!). We had to ask for glasses, which seemed odd, but no big deal. Our friends arrived about 15 minutes after we did and we were seated about 8:30. Our waitress came right over, we ordered a few more drinks and water and then checked out the menu. Mostly Irish fare, but a nice selection of other items (ravioli, pork chops, steaks, etc...). Hubby and I ordered the fish and chips (I was torn between that and the fried chicken - the description of honey fried chicken just sounded soooo tasty, but I had my heart set on the fish - next time I'll try the fried chicken), my friend ordered the mushroom stuffed ravioli and her husband ordered the pork chops. All came with salads and bread. Our friend also ordered a French onion soup - it looked nice and cheesy with a good chunk of bread on top -he said the broth could have been a little 'heartier' - he said it was a little bland and not as 'beefy' as he liked, but he ate it all. Our meals came out about 15 minutes later and the fish and chips were top notch (I always look for fish and chips like Thatcher McGee's in Pompton Lakes used to make when they first opened - those were THE BEST I've ever had, but over the last few years, they're just no-where near as good as they used to be) - but The QM fish and chips were almost as good - I would definitely order them again (after trying the chicken!) - they came with steak fries, which I'm not a fan of because they are just too 'potato-y' for my liking but I just pick out the skinnier ones and eat those. We had to ask for tartar and ketchup, which both came in their own containers (not as a side on the plate). Everybody really enjoyed their meals - our friend's hubby said his pork chops were fantastic - they came over a layer of what looked like baked beans, and my friend's raviolis looked fully stuffed and there were about 8 large ones on her plate. After dinner, she ordered the cheesecake and hubby and I ordered the hot apple cider with apple jack. OMG - was that a phenomenal drink for a nice cold winter's night! It's just what you'd expect - cinnamon, cloves, orange peel, and a little kick from the apple jack. YUM! Aside from parking (there's a church next door and I think the packed streets were from the congregation parking) - we had to park across Rt 46 and park on the side street...but not a problem. Oh - and about 9/9:30, they have live entertainment in the bar area (it was a couple - Pat and Karen I think - very good - played some Christmas music and some 70/80's - not very loud or over-powering, you could hear the music but still carry on a conversation). All-in-all, we will definitely go back (our bill for 4 drinks, a dessert, the 2 ciders, 1 soup and 4 entrees was about $111 - not bad at all for good quality food!!) - I have to try that fried chicken - and will definitely finish off dinner with the apple cider/jack!! read more
