Quest Diagnostics has figured out that the best way to get customers is to be where they are... the grocery store, next to the Pharmacy. From the looks of their latest locations list, most of the Austin-area labs have relocated to being inside Randall's stores, and that works out great for me. This one off Braker & 183 has a Starbucks and some decent prepared foods on site, so I can have my fasting blood draw and immediately get a snack and a caffeine boost. This new office is very convenient for me (living and working on the north side of town), and it doesn't seem to be as busy/hectic/crowded as the Clinical Path Labs that I've used in the past. I had no wait at all for my appointment, which was scheduled in advance online. When I needed to change my appointment time, no worries, I just went back online and updated my time without having to call and wait on hold for an appointment scheduler. Know this: patients with appointments get priority over walk-ins. If you are a walk-in, don't get all antsy because you keep getting bumped. TL;DR: Always schedule an appointment! Oh, how I dislike the effects of aging (although I'll take them over the alternative, ba-dum-bum). As a lady past my 30s, I've now entered the territory in which semiannual health screening and lab tests are a given. Gotta draw blood to check the cholesterol and blood sugar, gotta monitor the weight and blood pressure, and even measure height (to ensure osteoporosis isn't causing shrinkage). These things are never much fun, but Quest does a nice job of getting you in and out of there fast with lab techs and phlebotomists who are very knowledgeable, competent, and professional. I have no idea how much the Quest fees compare to other labs since my lab work was covered by my employer-sponsored wellness program. Bonus: You can download the MyQuest for Patients app to your smartphone and get your lab results conveniently as soon as they are available, even sharing the test results with your doctor from within the app. On the Quest website, you can also pay your bill, as well as learn more about Quest's patient assistance program for clients with low incomes and/or no health coverage. read more

I always try to avoid this location, but I was pressed for time on Tuesday, August 24, so I went to this location. I checked in 15 minutes before closing. I don't like using this location because the short dark-haired female phlebotomist at this location is rude and unprofessional. She resents anyone arriving late in the afternoon before closing. Once I arrived 5 minutes before closing and she would not peform the draw because she had packed up the office. Since then I have used other Quest locations and received great service. My results are always posted in MyQuest the very next morning. It has been 2 days now since my draw and my results are not posted. My appointment with my provider is tomorrow. If the results are not available I will have to reschedule and it may be weeks before another appointment is avalailable. I can't help but wonder if this woman has put my draw on a slow track. It was clear that she resented my arrival that late in the afternoon. She was rude to me and peformed a "hard" stick which hurt for a long time afterwards. We have a previous history because of the time she would not do the test for me so I do believe this was all purposeful. I recommend staying away from this location if you are in north Austin. The Quest labs on Anderson Lane and Parmer Lane are much more friendly and professional. I will never return to this lab ever again!!!! read more

This is the second time I've gotten my blood drawn here. If done correctly, getting blood drawn should not be an unpleasant thing. Both times at Quest were extremely awful. The first time, my arm was left sore and bruised for weeks. Two days after my first experience, I went to my OBGYN to get blood drawn again. My doctor kindly took blood from my other arm and examined what had happened at Quest. She told me that I have great veins and that the vein where they took the blood from is a strong one, but if they knew what they were doing they would not have taken it from the spot they did because it is usually more painful--and it was very painful. This second time I go to Quest, I am given the lady from last time. Again, she goes for the same spot. I don't say anything because I just wanted it to be done before it even began... especially by her. She pricks me and I feel her DIGGING around underneath my skin. Blood then starts squirting everywhere and gets on my clothes and she's forced to try in another spot. (My arm will probably bruise again and is very sore because of this right now.) She says I probably didn't hydrate correctly, BUT I stay hydrated and drink water all the time. She asked me to turn my hand over, but I asked her if she would just take it from my other arm because the hand is more painful. She snappishly says, "I didn't feel your veins in that arm, but we can try." So because of my request, she goes for it. This time it was not as painful or awful as the other two times. No one should have to be traumatized like this when getting blood drawn. She does not seem like she knows what she is doing, nor does she appear comfortable while doing it. the Indian phlebotomist stuck the needle in, she got the blood to flow, then she slowly pushed the needle in very deep. it began to hurt very much, but I was afraid to say anything with the needle in my arm and it was in SO DEEP. this woman also used the same gloves she was wearing to get my blood the same gloves she used to type on the keyboard. my site is hurting 9 days later and still bruised! And 3 weeks later, I still have pain, and bumps underneath and on top of where the needle was inserted. read more

No walk ins accepted, even though the nurse/tech/blood drawer was hanging out in the lobby and not seeing a patient. No where on the website does it state that they don't accept walk ins. Felt like it was more about what worked for her than actually doing the work. read more

WOW. I am very impressed. I am a notoriously hard stick and Nathan got it the very first try, and in the hand no less. Usually it takes the phlebotomist at least 3-5 tries, so to have someone get it the first try is impressive to say the least. Not only that, he was professional, courteous, and friendly. Don't worry about not making an appointment. They don't care! Came in 5 minutes early for mine. Waited for 2minutes past my appointment time until it was acknowledged I was there. Maybe this place is great if you happen to be walking around Randall's and feel like getting your blood drawn. But if you are on a schedule there are probably better options. read more

First off, I have had nothing but great experiences with the technicians there. Maria's phlebotomy is always quick, painless and easy, plus she goes the extra mile- calling doctors offices on my behalf, to try and get my orders faxed over once I'm there. Nothing but a pleasant experience once you're started. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 stars is precisely because of that... Maria shouldn't have to call doctors offices on my behalf because the fax never came through. This has happened with two separate doctors I've seen, who both told me they faxed the orders to this Quest location. However I show up and I find out they've disappeared into the void. On today's visit, I called my doctor back, and asked about the fax they said they put in yesterday. They investigated and found that it was attempted to be sent at 1:31 PM, but the fax machine at Quest 'kept ringing' and didn't answer, so it couldn't be sent. (They sent over another one today, which succeeded, so I could finally get my bloodwork done.) Since the same thing seems to have happened when being sent from two different, unrelated doctors offices, I have to wonder if the common factor here is Quest's fax machine, and not the other fax machines, unfortunately. Googling around this seems to be somewhat common with fax machines, and it looks like you can adjust the settings to try and fix it. (Is Auto-Receive or Auto-Answer set to on, for example?) I'd appreciate if someone could look into it and ensure all the settings are right. Maybe test some faxes from different places and make sure they all actually arrive. Now, I know this will be feedback more generally for Quest as a whole, and not for this specific location, but I don't know where else to send it, so here it is. This could have been resolved a lot quicker if the technicians were allowed to input the lab order from the document I pull up from my patient portal on my phone. I'm sure there is some outdated reason why the orders need to be printed out instead, but I wish they would get with the times. We're in the middle of a pandemic and most free printing services (libraries, universities, etc.) are closed, plus it's not really a very good idea to force patients to go into a printing store or really any physical location, exposing others (or themselves) to a virus all because Quest needed a paper printout. Let's be reasonable and accept the exact same orders off a digital device screen. It's 2020. read more

When I took half a day off last week (Friday) to take my son to get his bloodwork, we went to Quest inside of Randalls in Austin - near 183 & Braker. We arrived at 4:10. There was one couple waiting and a sign-in kiosk. The kiosk allowed us to choose "walk in" - but after a few minutes an employee came out and told us they didn't accept walk-ins. There was no sign on the door saying "no walk-ins" or "by appointment only". There was nothing on our bloodwork orders stating that we needed an appointment for Quest labs. When we looked up Quest lab on Google it only said the hours the lab was open - and nothing like "by appointment only" - so how in the world are people supposed to know that you must have an appointment? The employee could have helped us this one time since the waiting room was not full and we were not aware that appointments are required. It was almost the end of the day at the end of a week - 3 simple blood tests required for my son who was very sick. We lost three days of time when we could have had the bloodwork to help us know next steps. I asked for a manager's number and was given the 1-800 number for making online appointments. We wasted a ton of time after being turned away on the phone calling the Quest number to find an open appointment. We never found an open appointment online. This is not our first negative experience with Quest labs. We will do everything we can in the future to avoid Quest. read more

They don't have a time for a quick question. 1 person in office and 8 person outside in line. By some reason the system did not checked me while I tried and I was waiting & waiting. Everyone know I am next in the line but she is trying to be blind. Even those person after me in queue they told her I'm the next but the responsible person here not listening anyone.
