It was on my friend's birthday and, wouldn't you know it, he's the only one I know that loves sea shanties. We had to go. I had read a positive review in the N&O that Southern Living ranked Queeny's as one of the "best new restaurants" in the area. I found this assessment to be an exaggeration. The menu is limited. The food is edible but not exceptionally delicious. I had the cheeseburger which was large (1/2 lb) for $14 without a side. My colleague had the chicken salad sandwich, which was stated to be "good.". Based on the review I expected something more exceptional . The staff was friendly and diverse. The ambiance was similar to an empty dive bar. It wasn't crowded for lunch. I am not saying I would not return but will try other downtown places first. Sorry, but I was disappointed. read more

Fun vibe here! My Greek sandwich was very good! It had nice tzatziki on fried eggplant with veggies in a pita. Very filling but not heavy! My friends loved their burgers. We all thought the fries were great. I think the food menu has something for everyone even though it isn't huge. It's a well rounded menu and great drink selection as well! The staff is friendly. We've been to Kingfisher as a bar and to the back area when it was Queenburger during the pandemic. We recently went on a weekday evening for food and drinks and really liked Queeny's and its retro vibe. They were still asking for proof of vaccination at the time (fine by us) but have probably dropped that since. I enjoyed Mt. Airy pork chop sandwich and my wife enjoyed her sabich sandwich. The veggie soup was very, well... veggie. It was chunkier than we thought it would be. The menu us kind of small, but I think that's intentional. Do a few things and do them well, and don't charge a lot. We also got a frozen Irish coffee and a dark and stormy. We ordered at the bar and had the food brought out to the hightop table we were sitting at. There's also a little book room to the side, and you can take the back steps to an outdoor area shared with Kingfisher. They are open until 2 a.m. every night but I don't know if they serve food that late. Anyway, we enjoyed it and will be back. read more

Queeny's has excellent service and they were very quick but the dish I ordered was lacking. I got the Big Kale Salad with no cheese to make it vegan. The first miss for me was if you call it a kale salad the kale needs to be present. I specifically came here because I was craving a kale salad. The greens they chose were soggy and didn't hold up to the dressing. The dressing also could've used a bit more acidity. The rest of the ingredients were very sparse except for my added tofu. They did not skimp on the tofu (+$4) and I enjoyed the grilled taste but it was lacking seasoning as well. The roasted pears and dried cranberries were a nice addition but again were barely there. Overall it wasn't horrible but I would not recommend this dish. I do think some alterations can be made to make this better but as is I wouldn't get it again. read more

A charming gem. First let me say how thankful I am for the hours of operation at Queeny's! BLESS them for opening regular, all day, every day hours from 12p to 2a! I came in for late afternoon lunch during kind of a bad day and was so happy that I came in. I had a cocktail (it was a real bad day) and ordered the cheeseburger with regular fries. I couldn't believe how good the burger looked when they brought it out and I also had no idea how good it would also taste! Easily top 10 burgers I've had anywhere. I forced myself to finish it but be warned that it's easily a shareable item. Which I think just makes it even better. I also ordered dessert which was a chocolate ice cream cake. Not to sweet, not too dense, not too rich. It was a lovely way to end the meal. On top of good food and service, that place is a vibe. I love the interior and seating, including the nook in the back and the round bar. Skip the fancy restaurants for a good burger and treat yourself to this one instead. Cool little spot in downtown Durham.. menu not long but had some different choices . Fried eggplant sandwich with a few things on it .. in a pita . We came here on Sunday for lunch. The place is cozy. We had the French dip and pork chop sandwiches both are lack of favor. This place doesn't seem to have service other than they will bring you the food after you order at the bar, grab your drink and water yourself and seat at the table. Upon the food bought to us, we asking for refills our soda, the server/bar tender went back to the bar, filled another glass of soda and left it on the bar table and never bring to us. maybe I'm used to this kind of upscale bar with this kind of service cost you $20 per person that doesn't even taste good. Super disappointed. Everything had different temperatures that just weren't right. Beer wasn't cold and glass wasn't chilled. Warm burger, room temperature bun and kinda warm fries. The burger was more of a slider. Queso that was mealy and warm, with cold, unmelted, grated cheese topped with pickled jalapeños that were bland. It was inedible. Maybe the heavy clay serving ware is pulling heat from the food? I've waited the whole pandemic to try queen burger and I'm sad to write this review. I want to support local but this was disappointing. Hoping it was just a bad night (Sunday) and will give it another shot at some point. Maybe we try the veggie soup? This will be a two for one review as this also occurred at another establishment in the same day. Queeny's is a location that I have NEVER been to before. Today after searching for locations I haven't visited I chose this location. Walk in and was barely greeted as a group of ladies entered before I did. I got to the bar, took my seat and was NOT acknowledged until I said asked for a menu and then was asked if I wanted anything to drink. I'm assuming they just hired someone as she was a bit lost trying to make a drink for customers that were also there before I left the other establishment. As I sat there, I looked at at least 4 ppl behind a bar that seem to be caught up in everything else but. Plenty of opportunities to ask if I needed anything, did I have questions about the menu... ANYTHING! I was l left with and left on was Water and wonder... good thing water is free b/c I wouldn't have paid for it anyway to be honest. This was the 2nd location I went to were the service was for better lack of words ...shitty! IDK if it was the time of day or what but until this is recognized and you have a team that can engage in customers as they should... I won't be returning. My friend and I stopped in today, it wasn't very busy at the time we came in we orders at the bar I paid and we proceeded to wait 50 min by that time my friend is like I'm going to see what's going on because all we orders were two burgers and fries and we had to leave, they couldn't find our order at first apparently she forgot to put our ticket in we told her we had to go and she said she'd make it to go. Then we waited 15 more min for our food once we got back we noticed neither burger was actually cooked they were both RAW and cold on the inside. 42 dollars wasted on inedible food and bad customer service. read more

My lovely fiance and I decided to try out this place. My lovely fiance planned this evening now as a date night for us - she is truly lovely. The overall "vibe" at this place is pretty great! Major 70s vibes -- cool decor and a nifty reading room in the back! For food we both got the eggplant sandwich -- FANTASTIC!!! We already can't wait to go back. My fiance didn't love her cocktail (tequila sunrise) but admits she might have ordered wrong. We also got the ceasar salad and while it was very fresh the dressing was a little fishier than we liked -- but otherwise good. Interesting spot, we just kind of mosey'd on in on a Weds after work (7p). The sign out front noted that the menu was limited. Lots of table space and bar space, however the vibe was certainly not welcoming. Lots of stares from other patrons, as if we had crossed some invisible boundary. As soon as we placed our order at the bar, the bar tender insisted we close out our check. She was sort of matter of fact and flashing curt smiles our way. We were still thinking of ordering more drinks. That made us feel rushed so we decided against it. I ordered the Birria beef and my husband ordered a burger. As mentioned earlier they were out of Caesar salad and Turkey club. Food came out 30 mins later. Hot. Fresh, I'm glad I got the birria beef. It was filling. Tasty too. Hubs said the burger was just OK. Perhaps it was just an off night. Perhaps we're not a part of the crowd they hope to serve. The two stars are manly for the service. read more
