I tripped over this place (digitally speaking) while in London on vacation recently. My AirBnB was in Battersea, and I was looking for local options for dinner the first weekend I was there. I saw that Queenswood was a couple blocks away, and that they had a table available that night (a Saturday), so I snagged it.
Traveler note: in the UK and Europe, booking a table for dinner, and often lunch, is a requirement. Don't count on being able to walk in, even in neighborhood joints. Now back to our review, already in progress.
I walked over, was shown to my table, and proceeded to have one of the best meals and overall experiences I've had in a while. Queenswood is a smallish place, with an active bar scene and an open kitchen, where you can see all the good stuff happening as it gets prepared, plated, and brought to table. Neighborhood folks are in good supply, with at least a few tables scored by folks who'd come from beyond the neighborhood to check Queenswood out.
There's a place that's in the Gordon Ramsey galaxy of restos across Battersea Square from Queenswood, so it's not off the beaten path - my guess is that folks come to the Ramsey joint, and then tag Queenswood for exploration on their next visit to Battersea.
Bar serves up very creative cocktails, and has a solid gin selection (I'm a gin fan). The food is hard to tag as "it's [insert geo tag here]" - there's a little Europe, a little Brit, a little Asian, and the menu changes pretty regularly. Service is stellar, and very welcoming. This place was such a pleasure that I returned on my last night in London, with a friend who lives in my home city (Richmond VA), but whose business has an office in London, near Waterloo. That's how great this place is.
If you're in London, looking for an outstanding example of a neighborhood restaurant with big city chops, check out Queenswood. You'll not be disappointed. read more
