After walking around the Kensington area looking for a restaurant that didn't need reservations for on a Saturday night, we stumbled across Cote and they took us right in. It had a pleasant ambience to it, like a little mid scale camparison of Woodranch, as the waiters still served you wearing aprons. The food selection was good, they had a variety from pastas, salads, and meats. My husband and I ordered the 10oz Ribeye, usually served with Frites, but we asked if we can change it out to creamy mashed potatos. My daughter had the sirloin steak with frites, and my son had a cheeseburger with frites. The food was delicious, and the service was great. Our server was a gentleman named Daniel, who I understand worked at a different location, and was just there to fill-in that night. His mannerisms was sweet and service was amazing. When he found out we were from the US, he got excited and showed us some memorabilia from his visit to the US that he considered good luck. The desserts were also delicious. Friendly welcome as you walk in. There is some limited outside seating if the weather is warm enough. The decor and atmosphere are cosy and inviting. Good choice of food on the menu. I had pan fried salmon and the whole dish was perfect - loved the crispy skin on the salmon and the new potatoes fried off in butter and tarragon. My server, Tom, was very efficient and friendly. This place beats my expectation in every way given its low prices. First off, it is cutely nestled inside a cozy alley. The modern decor is elegant with comfortable seating. So delicious! Tripped upon this adorable restaurant while looking for food. We ordered French onion soup, charcuterie board, bread & 2 of the 1/2 chicken meals & were so thrilled with our food. This Cote had particularly remarkable service when I was here last, and that's all thanks to the lovely Nadia. Nadia is a perfect little peach of a waitress (you bet I just said that). My friend and I had dinner here and our waitress, Nadia, was all smiles and was absolutely so sweet. We got to talking with the couple next to us. They were visiting from the states and were having a lovely time in London. Nadia was really excited for them and because the four of us were talking, she brought us all prosecco. It was really thoughtful of her and she genuinely seemed so happy. So, that put us all in a really great mood and made us feel very welcome. The food was also lovely. Good for what it is: Tasty French bistro food at a reasonable price in the heart of London. A really good mixed green salad, great frites, descent steaks, good wine as long as you cork it 20-30 minutes before you drink it. Word to the wise; if you order a red wine, order it first and put it in an ice bucket for 30 minutes. Room temperature reds at the temperature they keep the restaurant is just not good. The service was fine and the desserts were excellent. The best part is the bill. After being in London for two weeks my wallet needed a breather. Cote was a welcomed breath of fresh air. Horrible service! Horrible food! Onion soup was served barely warm, no onion just broth a not much cheese at all on top of a hard thick bread!! Impossible to eat and not good anyway. Fries were frozen and super tiny portion. Warm endive salad was ok, but lack luster or flavor and dressing was a tin warm milky dressing ~ yuck!! Terrible service. In the middle of London on a busy hot day this place was a welcome retreat. Gluten free menu is awesome and the staff really care a lot. They talk to you about your allergies and reassure you that the food is going to work for you, bringing gluten free flags in the food. The steak was a really high standard with great vegetables. If you are following paleo diet this place can work for you too. There are carrots for sides instead of potatoes. I took creamed spinach too, which I think might have a small amount of dairy in it which might not work if you are strict paleo so you would need to sub with salad. The place is spacious and inviting. The staff are awesome. All round great experience. read more

Cote is a chain of French bistro-style restaurants that feature a small menu and quaint sidewalk seating. Having been to the Soho branch, I decided to try the Kensington version for breakfast. It was a rainy morning and I was one of two or three tables. The service was polite and efficient, and my scrambled eggs and smoked salmon were done nicely (I appreciated the fresh chives in the egg). But a couple of things were a little off-putting. First, when the waiter laid out my place setting, he included "some complimentary tap water" - his words exactly. Thank you for the generous offering. Second, and I hope this was a one-off, at one point a waitress took a phone call from a distressed customer who had apparently left something behind. The waitress couldn't find whatever it was, and then somehow got into an argument with the customer over the phone. She was quite rude, and kept insisting "would you just let me speak?!?" when in fact she was doing quite a lot of speaking and in a very loud voice. It was awkward and distracting, and went on for awhile until she slammed the phone. Not exactly a good model of customer service. I'll go back, but I won't take anyone with me until I get a sense for what the restaurant is normally like. read more

Excellent restaurant if you like to wait. Wait for your starter that never arrives. Wait for the bill that includes the never delivered starter. Yet more waiting for the duty-manager to come to address the error. The duty manager did remove the glass of house wine on the bill to make amends, but by then I was already recalculating the bill myself to delete the missing starter and deduct the "optional" 12.5% included gratuity. The food was mixed. Side order of beans was crisp, frites were good. Ribeye steak suffered from being Sunday night and the dregs of Friday's delivery, I presume. Lots of unchewable bits. My hubby and I were lured to Cote due to their nice outdoor seating area...perfect spot for good people watching. Unfortunately, my husband's English breakfast and my eggs florentine were simply average. Due to their appearance/taste, I'm certain that the spinach on the florentine was from the frozen food section at the local grocery store. As fellow Yelper David C mentioned, the service is slow. The menu is carefully thought out....the food authentic and the portions excellent value for money. I recommend the steaks, excellent well hung meat, cooked perfectly as ordered. Good quality French bistrot food at a reasonable price. I have been there a couple of times and really like the Kensington restaurant. It's cosy with personable staff and despite being busy at lunchtime not too noisy. Their weekly menu at £11.99 for 2 courses is a bargain. Their steak-frites is good (the meat was tender and well seasoned and the thin chips are crunchy). Their creme caramel is to die for. It's a shame that their selection of wine by the glass is limited as their wine list has some interesting wines. All in all a great addition to the Kensington High Street area where to find a decent place to eat which isn't going to break the bank can be challenging at times. read more

The food is nice. On my second time here the waitress was rude/mocked me for ordering my steak medium-well. She then made a point of telling all my 10 work colleagues at my table that their food would be delayed exclusively because of my order. I told her off but she ruined the experience to a point I will not be returning. I would expect someone in that job to be more understanding of other people's preferences and the establishment to educate staff and enforce good manners. read more

Reserved a table here a for pre theatre meal with my mum for her birthday. I advised before hand that it was a birthday treat and we were greeted with a glass of prosecco, a really lovely touch. We were in a hurry (arrived late due to traffic) so the staff did all they could to accommodate. We had breads to start, fresh and tasty with lashings of butter. Then I had risotto which was really creamy and well seasoned, mum enjoyed chicken with herb crust and roasted vegetables. To finish I had chocolate fondant which was amazing! And mum had a rich and creamy creme brûlée. Another lovely gesture, mums dessert was on the house! The waiter wished her a happy birthday too, it's little touches which make the evening stand out. Ducked in for a quick shopping lunch break. Was disappointed in the lack of outdoor seating (only 5 or 6 tables) but it was a beautiful day so I wasn't surprised. For lunch we had the chicken walnut salad and the salmon cakes. The salmon cakes had pretty large chunks of potato and I wished they hadn't skimped on the salmon, but the portion sizes were perfect for lunch and tasty. Service was quick and friendly and we were back to shopping in no time! Perfect for lunch, not sure if I'd venture over for dinner, though. read more

We were drawn in by the £13.99 dinner which included 2 courses and a glass of wine. Two of us ordered Chardonnay; were not told that the dinner special was house white or red only. Was charged £37 for wine. Dinner was okay. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but in the us, we would have been told ahead of time for the up charge. I am an asian lady and I had the misfortune of walking into this restaurant on 27th July and asking for a table for 3. I was told there were no tables available even though the place was half empty, I was told i could wait 30 minutes to see if a table became available , this was at 6.15pm, but if we were not seated by 7pm they would not honour the special price menu as this finished at at that time. I tried to tell the manager this was wrong as I was in the restaurant already but she was very rude, as I walked out of the restaurant I overhead another customer asking for a table and she told him it was a 20 minute wait. My opinon is that she did not want us there as maybe we did not suit the environment. read more

This restaurant is nestled in the rear of a small area off Kensington High Street among other establishments. In contrast to the Italian offerings, we found the staff to be professional, knowledgeable of the dishes, mostly attentive (important to female travelers, let me advise you restauranteurs) and aware. From a good kir royale to starters through main (the lamb for one and fish for the other) and sides as well as through dessert and coffee, each dish was well prepared, tasty, appropriately priced, delivered at the correct temperature and we were allowed to dine at our own pace. The server checked in with us (although he was a bit distracted at the end of our stay so it took two attempts to obtain a bill) and did forget one wine refill. However, in all fairness, we noticed he had an abundance of tables to service. Had dinner with friends. Friendly service, nice ambience, cozy. Appetizers were tasted, fresh seafood, good sauces. Main courses were well prepared, balanced, excellent presentation and enjoyable. Service a but rushed and on the 'pushy' side, maybe they need to turn tables faster, but responsive when told we need time.
