I was hoping for a much better meal based on the Google reviews for this place. It's a small French bistro in Spitalfields. The staff are friendly and genuinely French. Their food was underwhelming. I ordered the Escargots and the mussels mariniere. The escargots were well executed. They came in a butter/garlic sauce that was too salty. The mussels were 1/4 unopened. The sauce was watery and not memorable. The mussels that did open were soggy and not super fresh. The bread served with this dish was slightly stale and did not naturally soak up the mussel sauce. read more

Chez Elles is definitely worth a visit if you're around Brick Lane or Spitalfields - a delicious, kitschy gem hidden among the sea of curry houses. The decor in Chez Elles is eclectic and adorable - the birdcages, plates and framed vintage prints, along with the loveseat in the corner and French tunes are the stuff of instagram dreams. It has a really nice atmosphere, and with a lot of conversation pieces it's the kind of place that would work well for a meal out with friends or a first date. I also thoroughly enjoyed the mismatching cutlery and plates - it added to the character of the place: life is far too short for matching sets. We went straight for the mains in order to make good time to make the show, though I was particularly tempted by the Foie Gras. The service was friendly and helpful, which is always a bonus. Always a fan of anything raw, I went for the tartare de boeuf et frites maison, or steak tartar. It was seasoned beautifully, accompanied by a perfectly dressed salad and crisp frites. The best steak tartar I've had in London yet! Chez Elles have really nailed it - a charming vibe, excellent food, great location - which is a refreshing change from the increasingly anonymous monotony of Brick Lane curry houses (though I'm open to recommendations). This place had one of the higher ratings in the bricklane area. We decided on a whim to come here and luckily there was enough room to fit us two. This place is a nice little french restaurant with an ambiance that is both comfortable and lively. There isn't a who lot of room so if you got a party larger than 6 you might have some trouble. My Co worker and I ordered the snails for starter, beef tartar and mussels and fries for mains. The food came out quicker than expected considering this place was full. The servers were very nice and respectful. They came out with two slices of bread and butter. The bread was dry and not very good. The food we ordered though was pretty good but I've had better. The mussels were decent as is lacked a bit of flavor. The snails were very nice and rich and the beef tartar was well portioned but for me it had a little too much horse radish and not even seasoning. Chez Elles is the restaurant I have been the most in London. It is a very cute, little French bistrot in the heart of Brick lane. The decoration is a beautiful, higgledy-piggledy mix. The food is delicious and affordable. The whole experience is always a huge success thanks to Nadia, Aurélie and their team who are very friendly and make you feel like home. Every visit gets better and better all the time. I went last time to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, we shared duck rillette with a jug of red wine, we both had the confit duck main course, follow by the delicious vanilla and pistachio creme brulée. read more

Had a cheese fondue dinner at Androuet one night, and needed to find a nice little place for coffee and dessert. The waiter recommended Chez Elles, and was kind enough to call them for us to reserve a table :) The French bistro was incredibly nice, and it was too bad I was already full because their menu looked delicious! For dessert, we just had the vanilla + pistachio creme brulee, and a poached peach slices with a raspberry sorbet and shortbread. The brulee was OK, I couldn't quite detect the pistachio - but I really liked the poached pear. Maybe I'm more particular to fruits :) Dessert was great, but I will definitely come back to try their main courses. Update to come at a later date :) read more

Ambiance is super cozy and cute. Perfect for a group or couples (but I recommend making a reso bc the place is small). The food was tasty and good. I would say the portion for the Coq au vin tagliatelles (£14.50) was small for the price...hence the 3 star instead of 4. But, the taste was perfect and the juiciness of the chicken was spot on. This is a tiny tiny restaurant with really great food. Make a reservation and come early before they run out of the interesting menu items. The wait staff were very attentive and welcoming. The duck confit was a little dry but drowning in delicious mouth watering fatty juice on top of a mount of baby potatoes. I wasn't expecting the waitress to pile herbs on top of the dish and light it on fire in front of me. If you're not into that, ask, because it will happen quickly. The creme brûlée was out of this world ridiculous. There are several other interesting things on the menu that I'm definitely bookmarking this for my next trip to London. read more

What a wonderful find! The ambiance in here is superb and the fabulous food, plus exemplary service only makes Chez Elles that much better. Each table is adorned with a candelabra, giving the low lit shabby chic French restaurant a very romantic feel. We had the escargot and cheese plate to start, followed by the duck leg confit as our entree and a rich dark chocolate cake for dessert. All enjoyed with a bottle of Malbec. There are 3 things you should keep in mind before your visit to Chez Elles: 1. Are you interested in catching the best wine happy hour (pitcher of red/white plus a decent cheese platter at a very reasonable price)? If the answer is yes, you got to be there before 7 pm. 2. Dinner only? Make a reservation. 3. On a diet and can't do dessert? (Here I slap you real hard) Come to your senses and order that chocolate cake happily swimming on the most delicious french custard ever and continue your diet tomorrow. About a week ago, I was in France. Okay, not actually France, more like Little France on Brick Lane, but Chez Elles Bistro simply feels very French. From the interior with wine maps of France on the walls to the waiters and waitresses to the wine to the food - everything screams: Vive la France! And this is a very good thing. Chez Elles Bistro is a lovely little French restaurant where you least expect it. For starters I ordered duck rilettes, and it was incredibly delicious. I had an excellent Pinot Gris with it, a white wine from Alsace, and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me a little bit of a good Riesling. For the main, I ordered the burger. This was probably not the best choice, I admit, but I wanted to keep some of the other dishes for another visit. The burger tasted very good, it was only a tiny little bit too rare for me. But that could easily be resolved by specifying how I wanted it, so that's fine for me. I was also a little bit disappointed by the fries. They looked nice and crispy, but they were soft and not as crunchy as I prefer my fries. The chocolate cake then made me forget the main and instead made me like this place even more. It was rich and moist and not too heavy, it just tasted great! All in all, Chez Elles Bistro is a very good French restaurant. If you like French food and wine, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. read more

Feels like you are sitting in a little bistro in the Marais. Started with lovely dry cured salamis and a glass of the Cote Du Rhone, followed with the hand cut Beef Tartare, which was very tasty, my companion had the Moule frites, which was also very tasty, we shared a cheese plate comprised of four perfectly ripe well presented cheeses. Desert was an excellent glass of Armagnac. Very enjoyable evening, relaxed and quirky interior, and good staff make this a real pleasure to visit. This place is too good to be true. We were trying to rearrange last minute plans at 2 pm on a Friday for the same night, and somehow they were able to offer us a reservation at 7:30 pm or 9 pm. Maybe it's by virtue of not being in central London? They seated us promptly, took our orders promptly, and actually had great service, considering that everyone is all VERY VERY French! The location is odd, that's for sure. I know Brick Lane for dodgy South Asian restaurants, and to be fair, I don't even go there for those anymore. But tucked amongst all of that is this really cute French bistro, which really feels like it should be in Marylebone or something. As for the food, I ordered the duck confit, which is my go-to dish when it comes to French food. It was delicious, served with mash on top of a plentiful serving of duck and a lot of gravy. Definitely a luxury comfort food that I wouldn't mind seeing in the English gastropubs sometime. The roquette salad was served in a separate bowl, and not so pleasant because just pure roquette and nothing else is quite bitter. Not such a big fan of that. And about the other dishes on the table... the mussels are apparently amazing, very soft and juicy and apparently the best ones my friend has ever eaten. The grilled beef rump was good (but small) and the potatoes croquettes are really just like hash browns. And the steak tartare also got a vote of approval by a guy who used to live in Paris. We ordered two bottles of the merlot, and the wine list is actually quite well priced, with a few options under 25 pounds, if I remember correctly. This was right down the street from the flat on Heneage I was staying in, so it was pretty easy to take a quick walk down and indulge. I sometimes poked my head in just for desert. I am a total Francophile, who takes any opportunity to cross the channel, so if a restaurant makes me think I'm in France then it gets a big thumbs up from me. I've been to this restaurant 5 or 6 times now, and from my 2nd visit I was greeted like a friend. I'm not looking for a Cheers moment, but that moment of recognition goes a long way in a bustling metropolis like London. And the food. Always fresh, great favours and thoughtful presentation. The goats cheese salad I had on my last visit was a perfectly dressed combination of colourful salad items, topped with a generous slab of goats cheese on toast. And the pistachio and chocolate creme brûlée is a little bit of heaven, smooth and creamy with a lovely crisp top. Gorgeous little French place on the curry mile (Brick lane). Very cosy & inviting. Great hospitality: The staff were friendly, polite & attentive. The food was really yummy & it was refreshing to see "normal" sized portions! :) My fave item was the pistachio crème brulée...yum, yum, yum!! They forgot my macchiato, but other than that, we left with smiles on our faces & satisfied bellies. I'd definitely reccommend a visit there. Loved the ambience in this cute little French restaurant - perfect for a date night or just chilling out with friends. I've always been a fan of French food, and the menu consists of some of the classic French dishes (escargot, steak tartare etc) which made me so excited! I ordered the poached egg with pancetta, oyster mushrooms and foie gras for starter, steak tartare for main and vanilla and pistachio crème brûlée for dessert. My starter was tasty but I wasn't a fan of the steak tartare. Personally, I am not a big fan of mustard and I think that my steak tartare tasted too strongly of mustard so I would not recommend it if you do not really like mustard like me! My boyfriend ordered the Pollack for his main which I tasted and it was really delicious! Fish was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We decided to go for the vanilla and pistachio crème brûlée as many of the reviews suggested and it was certainly the highlight of our meal - so light and creamy! read more

While in London, we came across Chez Elles by way of the Yelp app. They graciously squeezed us in on a busy Friday night, we ordered escargot and the crab appetizer which were amazing, this was only the beginning of an epic dining experience. There were 5 in our party and we all selected different entree: mussels in a cream broth from heaven, beef tartar topped with an egg, fish stew which was the special of the day, monkfish and an eggplant dish to die for! For dessert we finished with the creme brûlée and a chocolate cake that was so light it floated to the table. We left after which may have been the best dining experience each of us has ever had, however, since the next day was our last in London, we made reservations for Saturday night in order to try everything else on the appetizer, dinner and dessert menus, which we did. Three apps, six entrees and 5 desserts later we completed the mission with the only regret that we had was that we were leaving London in the morning!!! We walked off the street in here and on learning that we didn't have a table the staff member's face soured. We were quite happy to sit at the bar and have a small dish of food (the cheese plate is delicious!) and wine after a long day but the staff's continued coldness put a significant dampener on it on the cosy atmosphere. Plates were placed and taken abruptly by unsmiling waitresses who made us both feel like a pesky inconvenience. London is full of places to eat, no one has to tolerate your rude staff so improve on this please. read more

The duck rillette were some of the best I've had (consider my grand father is a boucher-charcutier) and the lamb was succulent!
