Nestled next to Hackney Downs station, with a big "coffee" sign on the fence, L'Entrepot was a…read morecomplete fluke find for us. The menu has different tapas-style options priced around £7-9 (recommended 2-3 per person) or big plates at £20+. It was a bit out of our price range for a quick Saturday night bite to eat to be honest so we went for the cheeseboard (decent sized portions of six cheeses) and the salami selection. This was more than enough for two, especially as we were allowed unlimited fresh bread which was much appreciated. We sat there in the sunshine for about two hours with some great wine. The service was excellent and the owner even came over to chat to us about the menu and what sort of thing we'd like to see there in the future. It was so good in fact, we made ourselves late for a friend's party by staying to try the (delicious) cocktails. Then I stumbled backwards into ex-t4 and Popworld presenter Miquita Oliver. A good night all round.

Food, for the most point was OK. The food portions were the visible definition of rip off. We…read moreordered a lot of starter / side plates roughly around £10 each. The cheese plate consisted of so little cheese it was 2D, and the meat plate was even less. The cocktails were OK, they had a good Gin Selection. We did order whiskey sours, non of which had egg white. The wine was great, if perhaps again a little slim on the amount, the glass was tiny. The tipping point was when we ordered a plate of bread, as all five of us were still hungry; the waiter arrived with 3 tiny pieces of bread no more then the size of 50 pence coin (which we then divided into five). The waiter was possibly the rudest waiter we had ever encountered, he even referred to the chef as "a crazy person" when we asked about the egg white in the whiskey sours. His exact words were "you can't reason with a crazy person". We also asked the waiter about the portion size, when referring to the meat plate he stated that "the meat was meant to be thin" as if we weren't aware of this. Needless to say the over all experience was bit like being mugged. Don't eat there if A: you are hungry and B: you don't want to pay a bill of more £200 for what seemed like table scraps.

Finally made it in for wine and nibbles, and am so happy I did!…read more Our group of 3 found a cozy candlelit table in the back, and order a selection of wines by the glass that were on offer and very reasonably priced, between £4.50-£5.50 per glass. The menu is small but has all the essentials that a wine bar should have- charcuterie and cheese, tapenade, bread olives etc. After one glass we decided to try a bottle, and on recommendation by the staff ordered a lovely red from the cote du Rhone region, which was lush and velvety and fairly priced at £17.50 (plus £5 corkage to drink in). Lovely atmosphere with very friendly and knowledgable staff, great spot for some casual drinks and bites!

All of the wines are excellent value and there is a really interesting range of European focused wines to choose from(mainly French and Italian). They also have a really good lineup of local beers. The staff know everything on the shelves and will guide you in the right direction depending on what you like and budget. They also have wines by the glass that rotate regularly and are around the £4-6 mark. They are now doing a simple but really well-executed menu of food: mainly focused on charcuterie, cheese and different flavoured bruschettas. So similar to what the other wine bars are doing around London but a little bit better. Their burrata is large but disappears very quickly from the table... All of their cured meats are delicious too. If you need to get out of the house in the morning it's a great place to read a book/newspaper and enjoy a beautiful Italian roast coffee and some sourdough toast. You can also buy this bread to takeaway.

They distill multiple alcohols on premise and use local plants within their drinks. Sam, the owner, is very friendly and knowledgeable. Scout just moved locations to Hackney. Go in and grab a seat and the waiting staff are soon with you with a menu, an explanation and a small refreshing shot to get the tastebuds awoken. I was confused trying to order from the cocktail list as it does not list the alcohol. The explanation for this is not that they are really mocktails but, that they don't list this detail so as not to put the customer off with them thinking they won't order it because they don't like gin for example. OK, kinda fair point as this can drive the drink selection. They informed us that they brew their wine/beer/stout on site so, you won't find the usual names listed and they are bough by the bottle. That being said, the bottles are small e.g. 100ml / 200ml so basically a glass or so. I opted for sorrel sparkling wine. This was fruit and tasty. Also sampling the stout - home brewed and rather strong 8+% volume. I think alcohol content of the drinks you are ordering are worth taking note of!! They have a small food selection to help soak up and accompany your drinks but this isn't the place to come and have your dinner! Waiting staff were really friendly and informative. Bathroom facilities were nice and clean (and unisex!). With lovely fancy creams and soaps to enjoy! It seems a nice little place to come to for a natter and a drink and to have something a little more unusual than the usual pub or wine bar offerings.
