before i write this rave review, let me assure the cynics that i am neither a backer or relative of anyone connected with this little secret. when it comes to ambience and friendliness and great food it seems as if one must sacrifice one for the other.
not so in the case of The Chelsea Cellar.
this venue has it all.
my friend and i wandered in and two hours later, left, making plans to return.
the overall design is so clever, beautiful details, designed so that you never feel like you are in a basement but more in an elegant, organic, comfortable dining room in someone's home.
book in advance, is my advice, each table feels spacious, no crowding here, impressively i could hear every word from my companion without straining a bit. in a filled room! (though there is room for more tables our hosts Tim and Roy refuse to overcrowd)
i believe them to be the owners, Roy and Tim. they are accommodating, never pretentious, it rather felt like they were in their home and we'd dropped by for dinner. everyone gathered received the same level of kind attentiveness as the celebrity and his family sitting at a nearby table...this is a special place...
champagne w drop of aperol was delicious. the red wine delivered to my friend from Roy made my friend swoon, it was so delicious.
the food was lovely, i recommend the gnocchi and the fritto misto! but the entire dining room seemed quite happy with their meals...
i have a new favorite place in london! read more
