So I was gifted a vintage portable Royal typewriter and needed to change the ribbons. Thankfully, my partner was able to repair it. I tried everything from ordering on Amazon and reinking old ribbons. So I decided to go to a store. I live in Queens, but the best reviewed place was in the city - was not looking forward to the commute, but thankfully, I did one final check and found this place! It had one review but decided to give it a shot! You would walk by if you didn't know what you were looking for. You have to ring a bell to enter. I peered inside the window and saw the owner, stacks of paper, and typewriters. I rang the doorbell and after the initial question of, what can I help you with?, I was welcomed inside and immediately helped! He knew the best standard ribbon there was and it was a recent shipment so the ribbons were nicely inked! Super happy with this store and my ribbons.

I have owned both a IBM Selectric II and III and at this stage in their lives it is hard to find anyone who services these cool machines anymore. I was having some issues with My Selectric III and brought it in to Queens Typewriter... I explained what was going on and they said no problem, we will fix it... A few days later and to my surprise, my typewriter was fixed... They not only fixed it, they completely cleaned and serviced it... They replaced both the main print ribbon and the erase ribbon as well... They even managed to find a replacement part that was broken...What was even better was when I dropped it off the gave me a estimate and then when it was fixed called me to tell me exactly how much it was...the estimate was very close to the actual cost... no surprises... When I got my typewriter back it looked cleaner then when I dropped it off. I was shocked... These guys are awesome and you can tell the level of work and care they put into it... Honestly I was taken back. Their prices were reasonable considering how old my machine is as well, it's not easy finding parts these days... I am very happy I found this shop and fully intend on doing business with them in the future. The level of customer service is superior and these guys are really nice and fun to talk to... I strongly recommend anyone who still enjoys using a typewriter to consider taking you machine to this shop, it will be in very good hands. :)

I have hired these guys on at least 4 or 5 occasions. A few things:…read more - they are not the cheapest, so probably not your choice for doing a small banner or something very simple. - they are good for large and complicated jobs that I had to do for my clients (light boxes, lit led letters, multiple signs etc) - they are an actual shop. In other words I have visited them multiple times. They have a large facility on first floor and office upstairs. They are not outsourcing your work. - you CAN negotiate. This is brooklyn after all :) and you can negotiate in Brooklyn. - speed - well they are not the fastest, because they are busy and in a typical Brooklyn style customer service - they will sometimes tell you that ;) Having said all that - the jobs that they did were always of very high quality of workmanship and in the 5 or so years I have been retaining their services they did not let me down and have any of my clients complain about the quality (complain about speed :) yes that happened, but at the end they were happy).
