I was visiting Julian for a quick little day trip and of course needed to find a spot to munch. It was around 11:30 AM and not too many places were open yet, and I managed to pass by the side street where this place is located. I always do my best to support Latine restaurants wherever I can, but part of me knew this was not going to be a good idea. Unfortunately this gut feeling was right. At 11:30 it was straight lunch time, and there were no brunch or breakfast items available. I ordered the potato platter and added shrimp for the extra protein. I started with chips and salsa and the chips were okay, but the salsa was a huge disappointment. It was like tomato water. No spice or flavor. The potato platter came out and was a really big serving. It was bland and flavorless, with the shrimp being really salty, but this was quite the burden for these little shrimp to bear for the whole plate. I asked for hot salsa on the side and I will give one extra star for that - it was really spicy and must have been a habanero blend, because it also did a lot of heavy lifting with these items. I had to pack a lot of it to take home and unfortunately I just could not eat the leftovers. The waitress was nice but other than that I can't recommend it and next time I'm out that way I'll stick to something a little more traditional considering the area. read more

We ate around 3:30p on a Saturday. The wait was only 25 minutes. I got the two taco plate shrimp and carnitas. Both were good but I liked shrimp a little more. Rice was a little soft and mushy but flavor was correct. Black beans were good but more on the healthier side instead of being heavily marinaded. We also ordered an off-the menu mole with pork that shows the amazing skills of the chef. Very flavorful and savory and perfect consistency. This place is amazing! It is in an old building that they have done a great job of decorating to give you the "flavor" or vibe of gourmet food. There is a patio in back that is very large and lovely! We came with another couple and sat outside. The menu is short and sweet! We opted for guacamole and chips to start. It was absolutely tastefully spiced and presented in a traditional bowl. I selected the house salad with carnitas, two others ordered street tacos of various types and another got a carnitas burrito. My salad was delicious and I don't think I have ever had carnitas that good! The tacos were fantastic and they even had the choice of a potato taco! Most restaurants don't offer that but it is common in Mexico. The burrito I am told was over the top - after preparing it they give it a quick crisp on the flat top which was totally cool! First off the Food here is really really good. Unfortunately the girl who took our order and works at the check out has poor customer service. Had to ask for hot sauce and then only gave me two so had to ask for more. Had a lot of sass. I mean come on mexican food and hot sauce go hand in hand, shouldn't have to beg for hot sauce. Also when asked for chips i was rudely told by her that they charge for them. I'm sure if I ate there they would probably be complimentary but Kindly the chef went out the way and offered to give me some free of charge. This is the kind of service that brings customers back. When I got to my hotel there was no utensils or napkins provided so had no way to est the beans and rice. Besides the girl in the front this place is great! Quality food served, shout out to the chefs/guys in the back here they are super polite and know the meaning of customer service. Lastly they really need an online order option so don't have to call and be placed on hold for over 3 minutes. read more

This restaurant is a little less crowded because it's not on the main road in Julian. The place itself inside is small and has about 10 tables. The outside area however is large and fits a lot of people. For drinks I had their spiked horchata and a margarita. The spiked horchata was good, the margarita pretty standard. The complementary chips and salsa were a good snack. For entree I had the taco plate with two shrimp, two carne asada, and two carnitas tacos. The carnitas were my favorite but all the tacos were tasty. The problem I had was the service. The waiter did say they haven't been this busy before and their lack of staff definitely showed. It took us 40 minutes to order food from the time we walked in. There is only one person who takes orders and three servers to deliver the food. We were in Julian last weekend celebrating our 34 year wedding anniversary, enjoyed the food and drink this restaurant had to offer, food was tasty, as were the drinks! service was great and everyone was pleasant and attentive. We ate in this small charming restaurant on one of the evenings and ordered take out the next day to eat in our room and again they paid attention to making sure we had our utensils and choice of hot or mild salsas that they had to offer. Both were delicious btw! Very happy with this restaurant and will visit again next time we're in the area. read more

It's a beautiful setting where the whole family waits on you. They are all lovely and friendly. Water bowls for your doggies. Delicious chips and salsa for you. It mentions dog friendly and we came with our dog on a rainy cold day and had him zipped in a stroller and the guy and the desk was super rude to us & our dog. So we left. He clearly didn't like dogs. He also asked for a id for my dog, my dog isn't a service dog and service dogs don't require ids. He's uneducated on that topic clearly. My last day in Julian I realized Quecho would be open and I could try them out. Lovely seating outside. First I ordered all three salsas, chips guacamole and a Jalapeño Margarita. The chips were fresh and crispy, delicious fresh guacamole, The margarita was spicy but didnt kill your tastebuds. I ordered the Two taco plate with rice and beans. The tacos were so delicious and the carnitas meat was juicy and tender! The pinto beans had good flavor. Not sure what they did to the rice but it was delicious! My favorite salsa was the tomatillo. My second time here so now I can officially say this place is wonderful! First time we came, we knew it was so good and yummy and fresh. They use organic ingredients y'all! Freshly made horchata (not the kind that comes from the machines!) and the margaritas are top notch! This time, we came during COVID and snow. Had to sit outside in their back patio and despite the cold, everything was still great! They had heaters and a fire pit. This was our first time coming here, and I would love to come back and bring even more people to experience their food! We got asada and shrimp street tacos and a shrimp burrito. Literally SO GOOD! The food was delicious and the spiked Horchata was also tasty. Seriously underrated restaurant being off the main thoroughfare in Julian. Everything tasted fresh and homemade and not Tex-Mex (no flour tortilla tacos with lettuce and cheese here). Small but efficient three-person front of the house and kitchen outfit. Located uphill from Main St. in a super cute black porched house. We ate there yesterday, Thursday (September '20) after having sangrias from across the street. Covid distancing still in action so there is porch and very distanced seating inside available. I heard they have a large back garden as well. We chose inside today as this season has brought so much hornets that we wanted to enjoy our meal in peace for once. When you walk in you'll notice the colourful, yet minimalist interior and immediately smell the delicious cooking. Our order consisted of a margarita (so good, we got a second one), ceviche and nachos topped with carnitas (we asked what the delicious smell was) and jalapeños on the side. We waited quite a bit for our food so we know everything is freshly made and from scratch. Chips and salsa were served as an appetizer. The food came and the serving of the nachos was massive. We asked for more chips as the ceviche did not come with them. Margarita = delicious, ceviche = delicious, nachos = delicious. You can taste the love in their food. We were too stuffed for dessert so came back that night to try either the churros or flan but unfortunately their baker did not deliver that day. If you are like us and want a sweet nightcap, check in the morning so your sweet tooth doesn't get crushed. Hoping they'll have dessert next we are back in town. Ok, I get it, you don't go up to Julian thinking Mexican food...... think again! This house, turned restaurant is serving up some great food. My wife and I opted for the porch which surrounds the restaurant with our dog. There's also lots of tables out back for that outdoor experience. We started off with a couple Modelo's from the tap and nestled in for a hearty lunch. My wife ordered a Carnitas burrito which was so big and delicious, that I could hardly quit staring at it. We ordered it wet which is the way to go. I ordered chicken enchiladas that were equally delicious and came with beans. I wish I could remember our waitress's name.... She was wonderful too! I was pleasantly surprised that we didn't have to wait to be seated on a Saturday afternoon when every other place was so busy. The complimentary chips and salsa had thick fresh tortilla chips and a tasty salsa. The ice tea is amazing too. I ordered 6 street tacos (carnitas and carne) and they were exactly how I like a taco. Simple and fresh ingredients with flavor packed salsa. You can tell the tortillas were made that day. My husband ordered the burrito bowl and really liked it as well. I'm in my thirties and have been coming to Julian since I was about 3 years old. Something about this town is that they thrive with apple pie and Dudley's bread, but the restaurant food has always been awful. When we came to visit today I wasn't expecting much from this restaurant. I can officially say that I was mind blown! The food is absolutely amazing and the service is outstanding. We are vegan and they had so many options for us. We got a potato taco plate and our son had a black bean burrito. We got the spicy hot sauce and it was Devine. We usually don't order special cocktails, but something told us to try the spiked spicy lemonade and I'm sure glad we did. Loved everything about this place.
