Quecho was a wonderful fine. Finally, authentic Mexican food. We had the shrimp ceviche, which was fresh, light, and delightful, accompanied by sliced avocado and homemade tortilla chips we couldn't stop eating. And then came the piece de resistance: the molcajete! Wow, if that doesn't bring you back to life. It consists of Carne asada, Pollo Asado, Longaniza (Pork sausage), Queso Oaxaca, Nopales & Mexican Onions served in a stone molcajete with your choice of salsa (mild, medium or spicy), rice, your choice of pinto or black beans and some amazing homemade corn tortillas served on the side. We both had seconds and thirds and still took food home. Good for at least three people, not just two. My classic margarita was also very good. The food came quickly and the owner and staff we're friendly and helpful. All in all, a wonderful experience. My husband and I were in Julian for a little getaway. This restaurant was very close to our lodge and so well rated we gave it a try. So glad that we did. We devoured the guacamole while I sipped on a skinny spicy margarita with tajin rim (perfect!) and my husband had an alcohol-free beer. Then came the entrees, mahi mahi tacos for me and Carnitas burrito for my husband, that we did our best to finish. We came and had to wait about 20 min so not bad for such a small place. I didn't get her name but there was a white lady at the front who was the nicest. When we finally got say, the gentlemen who was our "waiter" was probably the rudest I've ever had. Was speaking in a whisper and when you couldn't hear him he got snappy like I'm the one in the wrong. We saw him wait on another table and he was very rude to them as well, rushing them and disregarding their question. When asked about what beans we wanted with our food he says it too fast and with a whisper and then gets angry when you can't hear him. I got the taco plate. The carne asada was bland and tasted like beef jerky, the rice was bland and had to be soaked in and also bland salsa to taste anything. The beans tasted and looked like they came out of a can. My wife got the enchiladas; she said she liked them so I guess that's worth it. My brother and sister in law got the quesadilla and the mahi tacos. They both said they were "meh" not good but not bad either. Oh and we asked about a kids apple juice and the waiter we had said they did but his tone made us feel like we were unconvincing him. Will never come back. I would rather drive a hour back to San Diego and get street tacos than waste my time here. Stopped here on a random road trip. Soooo glad we did! The inside is decorated super cute and the server was very friendly and attentive. We had the street Tacos and the nachos. The shrimp, chicken and carnitas were fresh and tasty. The carnitas was our favorite. The green (medium) and red (hot) salsas were delicious. Absolutely recommend this place! The chips served with the nachos were my favorite part: they had the perfect crunch! ‍ I also got a Watermelon Lime Fresca and it was delicious: it tasted so fresh. The food here is delicious, and the dining experience at this restaurant is all about the outdoor ambiance. What a great place to be with your entire family, even the furry four-legged ones. It looks deceptively small from the front until you round the corner to the back. Great weather combined with awesome service and good food. What more can you want? My order of street tacos (shrimp, chicken, and pork) was satisfying and filled the spot. They were all balanced in flavor and definitely distinctive in flavor profiles. It came with a side of beans and rice. Hubby had the nachos, which he pretty much inhaled. Their chips were crazy crunchy. They held up well to the sauce and toppings. This place is as good as it gets, do not sleep on it! My wife and I have been here multiple times. I love the street taco plate they have multiple options for meat. We were looking forward to dining at Quecho as they received awesome Google reviews and thankfully, by the time we arrived there wasn't a wait. The ambiance was relaxed and the AC worked well which we appreciated on such a hot day. Our waitress was also incredibly nice and welcoming. We ordered the chef's taco plate which consisted of two carnitas, pollo and carne asada tacos. Sadly, the carnitas and pollo were dry and bland. The carne asada had a little flavor, but there were unchewable pieces. The spicy salsa was delicious though. It helped add the clearly lacking flavor. We also ordered Mr. Manitas' famous nachos and the best part of this dish were the chips. They were crunchy and salty. The carne asada on this plate had less flavor, but they were at least tender and tasted fresher. The cheese was too strong and the salsa had no depth. Overall, another disappointing dish. My daughter ordered their bean and cheese burrito and sadly, this too, was insipid. Luckily, their rice was decent enough that my daughter ate that instead. For dessert, we tried to order a Julian apple pie, but they were sold out. What?! We are in Julian, known for apple pies and there is literally, an apple pie shop down the street. It seems like it should be the one dessert, well stocked. I also ordered their classic margarita and it was just alright. It was a little sweeter than I preferred. We spent, with tip $92.72. First off the Food here is really really good. Unfortunately the girl who took our order and works at the check out has poor customer service. Had to ask for hot sauce and then only gave me two so had to ask for more. Had a lot of sass. I mean come on mexican food and hot sauce go hand in hand, shouldn't have to beg for hot sauce. Also when asked for chips i was rudely told by her that they charge for them. I'm sure if I ate there they would probably be complimentary but Kindly the chef went out the way and offered to give me some free of charge. This is the kind of service that brings customers back. When I got to my hotel there was no utensils or napkins provided so had no way to est the beans and rice. Besides the girl in the front this place is great! Quality food served, shout out to the chefs/guys in the back here they are super polite and know the meaning of customer service. Stopped by here on a weekend we spent in Julian. We wanted something a little different than the usual comfort food spots and "Elevated" Mexican food sounded good. Parking is as expected, none. The place is off the main street which is nice, about a block eat of main street. Small and cozy but not crowded or cramped like some of the other bigger restaurants in Julian. Customer service was very good. Our waitress, Cara?, was exceptional. She was friendly, patient, helpful and very organized. Offered a few changes to the meal not on the menu but to help us have a better option than the limited menu options. The menu is very small. Prices were very relative to the size and quality of the food. The food was good. Sort of elevated food? I need to try more menu items to declare this elevate Mexican food. This was good food either way. We ordered the ceviche, kids 2 tacos with rice and beans, and cheese enchiladas. The ceviche was ok. I am not a fan of tomato based but it was still good. The carne on the tacos was small and dry chinks but was good. The enchiladas were very good. The Verde sauce was so delicious! I would like to stop back by here to try more menu items. read more

I was visiting Julian for a quick little day trip and of course needed to find a spot to munch. It was around 11:30 AM and not too many places were open yet, and I managed to pass by the side street where this place is located. I always do my best to support Latine restaurants wherever I can, but part of me knew this was not going to be a good idea. Unfortunately this gut feeling was right. At 11:30 it was straight lunch time, and there were no brunch or breakfast items available. I ordered the potato platter and added shrimp for the extra protein. I started with chips and salsa and the chips were okay, but the salsa was a huge disappointment. It was like tomato water. No spice or flavor. The potato platter came out and was a really big serving. It was bland and flavorless, with the shrimp being really salty, but this was quite the burden for these little shrimp to bear for the whole plate. I asked for hot salsa on the side and I will give one extra star for that - it was really spicy and must have been a habanero blend, because it also did a lot of heavy lifting with these items. I had to pack a lot of it to take home and unfortunately I just could not eat the leftovers. The waitress was nice but other than that I can't recommend it and next time I'm out that way I'll stick to something a little more traditional considering the area. read more
