Large, delicious burritos. We had a BRC, a carnitas burrito, and a chicken verde burrito. All were good. Tasty salsas and pickled carrots. Note that the carnitas burrito had exactly what was listed - meat, guac, and pico. Nothing more. It was a lot of meat, in case you're expecting rice. read more

The place is kept clean & looks to be organized has a good variety of options on the menu only thing is they don't have A/C which obviously it was pretty warm in the building but they do have fans. IMO I felt like the food is overpriced for what it tasted like I expected more flavor to my food but it was good can't complain and the only down side is they don't accept card only cash but besides that service was good. read more

We were hungry at 4:00 PM so we went to Jilbertos for takeout. It was quiet in the restaurant when we got there but Leslie greeted us with a big smile and took our order. I was happy to see that they have a senior menu so I opted for à carnitas tostada with the rice and beans sides. I really enjoy there fresh hot carrots so I added some Of those to my box. The beans and rice are so good and so was the tostada except that the carnitas were dry instead of moist. I would have preferred that the meat had been juicy. The taquitos were crisp and fresh and overall the food was good. It made our tummies happy and we will be back. Next time I will ask to taste the meat and make sure it's not dry. This restaurant is always clean and shiny and busy on the weekends. They get the food out quickly. I like to patronize these small family owned and operated businesses. They do a great job here in Borrego and I am thankful that they are here!! read more

Went to Borrego Springs for the star gazing and popped into this little restaurant for something quick to eat. Little did I know, I would fall in love here... it wasn't love at first sight. But it did happen pretty quickly. The moment I held that carne asada burrito in my hand I knew it was something special. Coming from Orange County, my expectations were low (burritos are often overpriced, small and disappointing, to say the least). But this... this was different. First off, the size of it was something to behold. I'd compare it to my forearm. Ok, maybe not that big, but... close. Then, my first bite. Delicious... and even more exciting: it was pretty much all meat. Tasty carne asada. All the way through. Their salsas are also delicious... I would highly recommend their pico de gallo, and their red salsa. The pico isn't super wet - which is great because it doesn't break down your burrito. I wish this place existed closer to home... but it's not. Come here, support their business, and enjoy a delicious meal. My only con would be... and this is being picky, the tables outside were a little dirty. But I don't even know if they belong to the restaurant. And so, I'm going to give them 5 stars. Visited 6/10/2023 Great little shop in downtown Borrego Springs. Today just picked up some nice Breakfast Burritos to take home. One Sausage & Eggs and One Machaca & Egg. Both were nice and large stuffed with Eggs, Meat, Potatoes, and Cheese. The Fresh Salsa Bar is a plus to add to the great flavor of this hole in the wall. Great place for a quick bite. read more

got kicked out for coming in with a service animal. the kicker is... that they told us after we ordered and our food was ready. They gave us our food and said " you can eat outside" it's our policy. Wanted Mexican food while camping so we decided to come here. Strike #1: Cash only. Now we had to go get cash someplace. We were all exhausted from hiking, looked forward to Mexican so went to the liquor store to get cash. Strike #2: As we're standing in the EMPTY restaurant, we're all looking over the menu and the girl at the register is just drumming her fingers on the counter the ENTIRE time, like she's inconvenienced waiting on us. Very annoying. #3: All of our food was ready in about 3 minutes. THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING. We have all had Mexican food and know how long it takes to make items. #4. My chimichanga was not fried. It was more like "Paninied" or maybe put on the top to brown on each side. #5. The Carne Asada burrito was WEIRD. It had the peppers in it like a fajita would have. Peppers and onions. It didn't have any guacamole and no Pico Di Gallo, nada. #6: Beans were tasteless. Zero flavor. We also got fish tacos. They were the only thing edible out of the entire items we ordered. We threw the burrito, chimichanga, rice and beans away. They were gross. The fish tacos were just okay but we ate them. Their Mexican food is like if you go out of state to get Mexican food. Say you go to Montana to get some good Mexican food then this would be the equivalent of that. Taco Bell has better Mexican food. 95% of the time, if you are in San Diego, any Mexican place has pretty good food. Edible at least. OH! The carrots were good also. If the chic at the counter hadn't looked so annoyed that customers were in there, I might have given 2 stars on this restaurant for the carrots and fish tacos. read more

We were told to be cautious of eating here by a server at the place we tried to eat at across the way, but we risked it and we did not get sick in any shape or form. It's one of the cheaper places to eat at in this town. This combination plate was such a steal. My partner got just the burrito and they were very jealous of my combo plate because we essentially got the same size burrito but i also got the enchilada with beans and rice (he paid basically the same price for less). Good prices. Meat quality for street tacos is very questionable. The chicken was full of gristle and the pork was burned into tiny little cubes. California has made styrofoam packaging illegal but Los Jilbertos still serves everything (eating in or taking out) in styrofoam containers. Not cool. read more

My husband and I are in town for "Nightfall" with the Riverside Astronomical Society. Sorry I have no pictures, but I ordered a shredded beef taco and cheese enchilada combo, and hubby had the California burrito! Both were delicious! The portions are huge and the flavors on point. This is not a typical taqueria. It has an extensive menu, breakfast all day, slightly quirky interior and good tacos. We had a mixture of street and regular tacos. My fish tacos were good but over stuffed with cabbage. Street tacos were great. Prices were fair and food prep was quick. While we were their customers ordered a wide variety of entres and all seemed satisfied. There was also a mix of locals and tourists like us. A good place to visit during your Anza Borego and wildflower adventures. We'll be back. read more

Been staying away from our favorite food place in Borrego Springs because their prices have gone really high since Covid. I love their breakfast Chorizo burrito and went there a couple weeks ago. Never thought a hole in the wall place would be this good. We drove out here to meet a friend, there's nothing in the area except for land. It's like we are not even in CA anymore. My husband noticed a lot of cars parked in front of this specific restaurant in this empty lot. So we decided to give this place a try. Upon walking in, this place has a strong Mexico vibe. It's a family business and everyone seemed to work well together. We got the food to go but service is exceptional. My husband got the breast burrito, I had street tacos. The tacos were PERFECT. They over filled the tacos but they give you two tortillas so you are really buying 2 tacos with the price of 1.
