    Cold cider

Stopped by with my fiancé for bunch and we got the cinnamon roll French toast and country fried steak. It was great! The french toast was as sweet as we expected but even bigger than anticipated, lol. The country fried steak was perfectly crispy, gravy was flavorful, and the fresh cider hit the spot. Place was packed too but the food came out pretty quick maybe a 20-30 min wait. Always a fan of great service too so I'll add our server was super nice and welcoming. It's a small spot inside but the oversized food portions make this place bigger. If I'm in Julian and want more than just pie, this is definitely one of my go to spots.

Chicken pie Turnover! Amazing flavor! Make sure to get the gravy on the side to truly enjoy the flaky, delicious pie crust!

Originally known for being the "Home of the famous Julian Apple Pie" this cozy kitchen to table cafe has so much more to offer, paying homage to its early roots in Julian, which is noticeable as soon as you step through those doors! Make sure you bring your appetite, as these portions will leave you craving for a midday nap if you come unprepared! The service was as sweet as the pie. Do yourself a favor and make sure you add this place on your to-do list when you get into town!

If you're ever in Julian, you've gotta check out this place. I got here late after breakfast, but I still was able to get cranberry white chocolate, Belgian waffle. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's baked inside ,not on the outside not too sweet. They also are known for their pies. We got an apple one very good. Cara was our waitress. She was very friendly and patient with our large group.

Cinnamon roll - not bad but the butter on top and the frosting was excessive

We were a little nervous about the reviews but came with no expectations a little before 10 am on a Saturday and really enjoyed our experience. Our wait was 20-30 mins. Customer service was good, our server and the bussers were friendly and attentive. The bacon was thick and cooked perfectly, the scrambled eggs were fluffy, and the French toast had the perfect flavor and texture. The boysenberry/apple pie crumble was amazing and the best way to end my meal. The cinnamon roll was huge and wasn't too bad, wouldn't order it again but got it for the experience. The butter on top was unnecessary and the frosting was excessive. We sat at a table near the front and could hear the wait times and the later you came, the longer your wait. The average wait became 1 hr 20 mins, then 1.5 hours. This restaurant is good but not amazing to wait that long... The one thing I noticed was that the path to the restroom is the same path where the food sits when it's finished and is waiting to be dropped off to tables. Customers walking by can easily breathe/sneeze/cough on or near the food but I just tried not to think about it. It's a small restaurant. Would dine here again.

10/14/25 Classic mom n pops place!

10/14/25 My kind of place, a classic mom & pop cafe with rustic ambiance & appeal- warm & attentive service. After picking up a few pies at Julian Pie Co in Santa Ysabel, found our way back here in neighboring city of Julian. The Farmhouse was sadly closed on a Tuesday, otherwise that's where we would have dined instead. I'm so glad this was right in front of Mom's Pie across the street. Rebecca was our wonderful server who checked on us many times to ensure our experience was nothing but impeccable. At first glance, the fried chicken caught my eye & Hubby ordered a bowl of chili with the onions, sour cream & cheese on the side, with corn bread, of course. I counted about 13 table in this cafe that could seat two to four each, some free standing, some booths- which could easily accommodate 6 small adults. Our food arrived shortly & it was hot & fresh. After the customary photo ops, we dug in. It took all of my courage to NOT ravage it coz I was hangry! It's 4 pm & it would've been our first meal of the day. My fried chicken was scrumptious--oh so crunchy & full of seasoned flavor, the meat inside was tender & moist. The mashed potatoes with gravy were the perfect partner to offset the richness of the fried chicken-- Hubby loved it, too! Hubby's chili was pretty good, good amount of spices but we've had better. It was so good, though to be thick & hearty on a cold, rainy, fall day. The cornbread was a bit dry, nothing to write home about. The best part of this meal? When Rebecca dropped by & we were about to settle the bill, she said that it had already been taken care of.... What!? She said one of the customers had already paid for it. Instantly I knew sho it was because I happened to notice a kindly gentleman eating solo in one corner, and I guessed correctly that he was the one who did!!! I am beyond in awe. Wow! Rebecca said that gentleman comes from out of town regularly & he randomly pays for other customers' meals & chooses to remain unknown. It was already a 5 star experience but Mr. Kind & Generous made it so much special. I am truly Blessed, Hubby & I are very fortunate. Thanks, Julian Cafe!

    Their house specialty. So delicious!

We loved our time at Julian Cafe. It is such a cute spot. We visit Julian a lot but it's usually impossible to get a seat here without a long wait on the weekends. We ended up coming here on Sunday afternoon and the place was very quiet. We enjoyed the food a lot - everything was delicious and exactly what we expected. It has a warm home-cooked & cozy vibe. Our server was wonderful. The only negative is some of the employees aren't very nice, but that was minor compared to the rest of the experience. Don't eat too much so you have room for pie! We will be back here next time we're in town, even if there's a wait.

We stopped in for lunch mid-week. The weather was nice plus it was not crowded. A plus in my book. Upon entering the nice waitress seated us immediately. I decided to try the Julian apple burger and a blackberry lemonade. Plus we shared some zucchini. Whoa, was my first thought biting into my burger. The combination of apples, grilled onions, bleu cheese and the maple mustard sauce was just phenomenal. No wonder it's a house favorite! I just wish I had enough of the maple mustard sauce to dip my zucchini into. But no worries they had ranch sauce. I enjoyed my blackberry lemonade. More so after I watered it down as it was a bit too sweet for me. If I order it again I'd get half water half of the lemonade in a glass. The zucchini was tasty and I suspect the yummy ranch sauce was homemade. I really enjoy this cafe as I know the food will always be fresh, delicious and scratch made. Plus the wait staff are always friendly, helpful and speedy.

    Bacon cheeseburger with fries

Spent a beautiful, sunny day in Julian and had a late lunch at this quaint cafe. My friend ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries and I ordered the most popular dish - chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes and gravy. The portions were very generous. My friend said her burger was delicious. Unfortunately my meal was too bland for my taste. The servers were really nice and attentive for such a busy place. Many places close at 5pm but cafe stays open until 8pm.

Such a cute place!! Its located on the main road in Julian. My bf and I came on a winter night to star gaze. We stopped by here because its the few places open and only one that served dessert. The pie was super tasty and comforting. I looooooved the warm apple cider. It was the PERFECT dessert for a winter night. Service was excellent, fast and friendly. I would love to come back for a meal next time!

Service was great, tip call ahead to put yourself on the wait. It is very small inside. As far as breakfast, if you want a lot of food, go here. The servings are huge. As far as flavor, I thought my biscuit was dry, the pancakes were ok, and the bacon was over cooked. We had a latte and it was small in comparison to food servings.

First time in Julian, glad we stopped here for lunch. I think we had the Julian salad that had apples, candied walnuts, blue cheese and poppy seed dressing. It was delicious! We also ate the burger and fries and that was amazing! Service was friendly and would recommend this establishment. Definitely make a stop here.

Darling place. They sell pies, candles and have a selection of lemonade/flavored tea. Great western vibe and super friendly s. The coleslaw is bomb, you know it is really hard to find good coleslaw. This place has it. I had the liver and onions with extra, extra onions. There was a lot of onions on top and a lot of bacon. The liver and onions was delicious, but needed a little salt. With the extra little bit of salt, it is some of the best liver and onions I've ever had. The mashed potatoes and gravy was delish too. My husband had the chicken pie turn over. He said it was effing good!!!! The stacks of fries coming out of the kitchen were hot and high and I wish a couple had fallen on my table. But, I had to finish my lunch fryless. I would absolutely come back here and order the same thing. Morgan was our server, she did a great job. She was very attentive and quick.

We were not disappointed at all. Upon arriving, there was a musician playing, and they did seat us off to the right so we could not see but could hear still. There is outdoor and indoor seating, but at the time we came it appeared that the outdoor was reserved for an event. We happily sat inside! Having met Jeremy's parents earlier in the day who also recommended his restaurant, and they were just lovely, we had hoped to possibly meet Jeremy too. I wanted to try everything, but we opt on getting a few dishes to share. Our son ordered the filet mignon and they were able to substitute mashed potatoes for fries. Amazing!! The mac & brisket appetizer appeared to be the highlight and specialty and we just had to order it. Every bite was cheeesy and delicious with the brisket very moist. We couldn't go without ordering the Brussels sprouts and it had a twist with ponzu sauce and pineapple. Definitely a different take and I thoroughly enjoyed the taste. Every bite was foodgasmic and I highly recommend!!! I knew coming here that some Yelpers have experienced wavering in quality, so glad we did not experience that at all. As of the date that we came, we understood that the restaurant had been listed for sale, not sure if Jeremy sold it yet or not. I hope not, we plan on coming back this summer!

I did enjoy the phosphate sodas that you can choose the flavor of. Orange and vanilla was pretty tasty! The California BLT comes with avocado and cream cheese. Putting the cream cheese on the side worked, I tried it and ate it with most of my sandwich. Don't think I needed it it every bite though. Coleslaw was really good! Loved the old toys they have displayed, even picked up some jax for my mom. That's her childhood claim to fame. The train that goes around up-top is fun too! Lots of historical items and pictures. I went with the Nickel Pickle burger that most seemed to like and I have to say was pretty damn good. All in all it worked. While savoring each bite I washed it down with a Russian River Blind Pig. I was disappointed they were out of Pliny the Elder but BP is a good second choice. The burgers were very tasty, the fries were excellent, and the relaxed atmosphere near the lake made for a really enjoyable stop. What made the visit especially memorable was our server, Will. After placing our order, I realized I had forgotten my wallet, which created a stressful moment as I tried to figure out where I might have left it. When I shared this with Will, he asked if I was married, which I shared that I am unfortunately going through a divorce. He responded with genuine empathy, sharing that he had also gone through difficult times himself. He suggested ways we could work out payment, encouraged me not to worry, and allowed us to continue enjoying our meal while I sorted it out. That level of compassion, kindness, and understanding made a real difference. I was able to arrange payment over the phone, my daughters avoided what could have felt like an embarrassing moment, and by the end what could have been an awkward moment turned into a positive memorable experience. Great food is always appreciated, but great service is what people remember -- and Will absolutely made this visit stand out. Highly appreciated.

My husband and I were returning from a hiking weekend with our two doggies when we searched for a pet-friendly place to have lunch. Google suggested Farmhouse 78, and we are so glad it did. They made me feel valued as a customer and even offered to let us dine inside with our dogs. Out of respect for other guests, we chose to sit outside on their lovely patio. Everything about this place was wonderful--the cleanliness, the atmosphere, the service, and how quickly our food arrived. Most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious. I even brought friends who had never been here before, thinking it could become one of our regular stops when we're out hitting the trails. Instead, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth... and not just from the food. Waitress: Where do I even start. She claimed she was hard of hearing--but her attitude spoke loud and clear. Tossing menus on the table, aggressively slamming salsa down, and getting snarky over being off because our party count was off by one person. Seriously? It took two seconds to adjust the table, but apparently that was just too much. Yes, she technically did her job... but with such a cold, unwelcoming, and rigid attitude that it made the whole experience uncomfortable. What really stood out? We were there first and ready to order, yet she chose to take care of every smaller table that came in after us. No communication, no "I'll be right with you," nothing. Just ignored. Basic courtesy clearly isn't part of the service here. And trust me--I used to be a waitress. I handled large parties all the time and actually communicated with my tables. It's not that hard. Honestly, if gratuity hadn't already been forced onto the bill, she would've gotten $0. The only pleasant person we encountered was the busser--quick, friendly, and actually seemed like he wanted to be there. Maybe swap their roles, because he outperformed her by a mile. Food: Let's talk about the food... if that's what we're calling it. Everything came out cold. Not "warm-ish," not "could be hotter"... just straight up cold. It felt like our plates were sitting under a heat lamp for way too long before making it to the table. One "white" friend asked to have her meal fixed--fine, no problem. But when another "Hispanic" friend asked the same thing? Suddenly there was attitude, menu slamming, and mumbling under her breath. So... what exactly was the difference? Why the inconsistency and hostility? If the kitchen is that backed up, maybe management should step in and help instead of letting food die in the window. Just a thought. Final Thoughts: This place had potential... but that waitress single-handedly ruined it. We'll be taking our group (and our money) elsewhere--Dudley's Bakery is looking like a much better option moving forward. I usually bring large groups out here, so this isn't a small loss. Unfortunately, if this is the level of service they're okay with, this place isn't going to improve anytime soon. At this point, it's less "Farmhouse charm" and more "junky barn energy."

First timer, and SO glad we found this place! Stopped by on a Friday evening, easy street parking,…read moreand was seated right away. The decor and style of the restaurant is very inviting and warm. All the ladies working were very friendly. Our server, Tiffany, was amazing! Gave us wonderful recs and went above and beyond for us. Everything was absolutely DELICIOUS! All made from scratch and not too salty. Will definitely come back one day! Not pictured but their black coffee is really good too. **Get the banana sea salt caramel cheesecake (which is seasonal)!

That commitment to quality and sustainability is commendable and something more restaurants should strive for. The staff is knowledgeable, and it's refreshing to see a restaurant that cares about where its food comes from. Unfortunately, that attention to ingredient sourcing seems to stop when it comes to cooking oils. Many of the menu items are prepared with soybean oil, which was disappointing given the otherwise high-quality and health-conscious image of the restaurant. Soybean oil is highly processed and contains large amounts of omega-6 polyunsaturated fats. While omega-6 fats are essential in moderation, excessive consumption relative to omega-3 intake has been associated with increased inflammation in some research. Soybean oil is also more susceptible to oxidation when exposed to high cooking temperatures, potentially producing compounds that some studies suggest may contribute to oxidative stress. In addition, many health-conscious consumers actively avoid industrial seed oils such as soybean, corn, and canola oils in favor of alternatives like olive oil, avocado oil, butter, or tallow. I would gladly give Marinade on Main a higher rating if they aligned their cooking oils with the same local, high-quality standards they apply to the rest of their ingredients. Switching to avocado oil or olive oil or beef talo would be a welcome improvement and would better match the restaurant's otherwise impressive commitment to quality. * also loose the standard strip of high fructose sodas and provide more natural optikns of drinks ...

We had a pleasure of sitting at the bar and got to watch all the food passed by us. Every item looked like it made to protestation. The enthusiasm of the ownership is something you don't see these days. I will give this place 12 stars if I could.

This little restaurant is owned by a couple French guys and to be honest they've got some really interesting looking French dishes on their menu that I bet are fantastic. I would love to try them sometime and I bet that would increase my score of this restaurant. They've got four taps and the beers come out frigidly cold. Absolutely perfect after being outside. My burger was pretty good, the patty definitely gave me frozen burger vibes, but the fries were amazing. They are that battered type that is super crunchy. I asked for a side of ranch dressing and it was a prepackaged Ken's steakhouse branch. Was a little disappointed by that, hoping for homemade ranch, but not a dealbreaker. The server was very friendly and very quick. The interior is cute, looks like a log cabin, and in the front, there is a very nice looking patio area that if you want to be outside looks quite enjoyable. They are obviously very supportive of the PCT hikers. They've even got a little area where you can buy snacks and put them into a donation bucket for the hikers which I think is cool.
