    Cold cider

Stopped by with my fiancé for bunch and we got the cinnamon roll French toast and country fried steak. It was great! The french toast was as sweet as we expected but even bigger than anticipated, lol. The country fried steak was perfectly crispy, gravy was flavorful, and the fresh cider hit the spot. Place was packed too but the food came out pretty quick maybe a 20-30 min wait. Always a fan of great service too so I'll add our server was super nice and welcoming. It's a small spot inside but the oversized food portions make this place bigger. If I'm in Julian and want more than just pie, this is definitely one of my go to spots.

We loved our time at Julian Cafe. It is such a cute spot. We visit Julian a lot but it's usually impossible to get a seat here without a long wait on the weekends. We ended up coming here on Sunday afternoon and the place was very quiet. We enjoyed the food a lot - everything was delicious and exactly what we expected. It has a warm home-cooked & cozy vibe. Our server was wonderful. The only negative is some of the employees aren't very nice, but that was minor compared to the rest of the experience. Don't eat too much so you have room for pie! We will be back here next time we're in town, even if there's a wait.

If you're ever in Julian, you've gotta check out this place. I got here late after breakfast, but I still was able to get cranberry white chocolate, Belgian waffle. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's baked inside ,not on the outside not too sweet. They also are known for their pies. We got an apple one very good. Cara was our waitress. She was very friendly and patient with our large group.

Decided to take a drive out to Julian on a Friday afternoon and had lunch at this little old-town restaurant. Our server Matt was really friendly and efficient. My family was pretty impressed by the food! We couldn't resist ordering the Hot Cinnamon Bun and oh boy! It was the best cinnamon roll we ever had!!! We also loved the Tortilla Soup, Apple Burger, Chicken Fried Steak and the House Specialty Chicken Pie. Everything tasted so homemade!!! If you're looking for a place to eat when you're in Julian, this place is a great choice!

10/14/25 Classic mom n pops place!

10/14/25 My kind of place, a classic mom & pop cafe with rustic ambiance & appeal- warm & attentive service. After picking up a few pies at Julian Pie Co in Santa Ysabel, found our way back here in neighboring city of Julian. The Farmhouse was sadly closed on a Tuesday, otherwise that's where we would have dined instead. I'm so glad this was right in front of Mom's Pie across the street. Rebecca was our wonderful server who checked on us many times to ensure our experience was nothing but impeccable. At first glance, the fried chicken caught my eye & Hubby ordered a bowl of chili with the onions, sour cream & cheese on the side, with corn bread, of course. I counted about 13 table in this cafe that could seat two to four each, some free standing, some booths- which could easily accommodate 6 small adults. Our food arrived shortly & it was hot & fresh. After the customary photo ops, we dug in. It took all of my courage to NOT ravage it coz I was hangry! It's 4 pm & it would've been our first meal of the day. My fried chicken was scrumptious--oh so crunchy & full of seasoned flavor, the meat inside was tender & moist. The mashed potatoes with gravy were the perfect partner to offset the richness of the fried chicken-- Hubby loved it, too! Hubby's chili was pretty good, good amount of spices but we've had better. It was so good, though to be thick & hearty on a cold, rainy, fall day. The cornbread was a bit dry, nothing to write home about. The best part of this meal? When Rebecca dropped by & we were about to settle the bill, she said that it had already been taken care of.... What!? She said one of the customers had already paid for it. Instantly I knew sho it was because I happened to notice a kindly gentleman eating solo in one corner, and I guessed correctly that he was the one who did!!! I am beyond in awe. Wow! Rebecca said that gentleman comes from out of town regularly & he randomly pays for other customers' meals & chooses to remain unknown. It was already a 5 star experience but Mr. Kind & Generous made it so much special. I am truly Blessed, Hubby & I are very fortunate. Thanks, Julian Cafe!

Spent a beautiful, sunny day in Julian and had a late lunch at this quaint cafe. My friend ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries and I ordered the most popular dish - chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes and gravy. The portions were very generous. My friend said her burger was delicious. Unfortunately my meal was too bland for my taste. The servers were really nice and attentive for such a busy place. Many places close at 5pm but cafe stays open until 8pm.

Such a cute place!! Its located on the main road in Julian. My bf and I came on a winter night to star gaze. We stopped by here because its the few places open and only one that served dessert. The pie was super tasty and comforting. I looooooved the warm apple cider. It was the PERFECT dessert for a winter night. Service was excellent, fast and friendly. I would love to come back for a meal next time!

We spent 2 gruelling days on hot mountain climbs to about 8000 feet carrying all of our packs on our bicycles and battling fast weekend auto traffic on blind curves without a shoulder or bike lane to get our coveted reward at the Julian Cafe & Bakery--apple pie and ice cream. Actually it turned out even better due to the crowds--apple boysenberry pie and ice cream--because they ran out and the fresh pastry pies would come out of the oven in 45 mins. Cara our lovely waitress and seemed to be trained as a traffic cop or football coach, keeping tables served and calling outside for those whose tables became free. We were tucked cozy in a booth with the buzz of the historic western cafe atmosphere and relishing our athletic achievement with a feast.

We stopped in for lunch mid-week. The weather was nice plus it was not crowded. A plus in my book. Upon entering the nice waitress seated us immediately. I decided to try the Julian apple burger and a blackberry lemonade. Plus we shared some zucchini. Whoa, was my first thought biting into my burger. The combination of apples, grilled onions, bleu cheese and the maple mustard sauce was just phenomenal. No wonder it's a house favorite! I just wish I had enough of the maple mustard sauce to dip my zucchini into. But no worries they had ranch sauce. I enjoyed my blackberry lemonade. More so after I watered it down as it was a bit too sweet for me. If I order it again I'd get half water half of the lemonade in a glass. The zucchini was tasty and I suspect the yummy ranch sauce was homemade. I really enjoy this cafe as I know the food will always be fresh, delicious and scratch made. Plus the wait staff are always friendly, helpful and speedy.

First time in Julian, glad we stopped here for lunch. I think we had the Julian salad that had apples, candied walnuts, blue cheese and poppy seed dressing. It was delicious! We also ate the burger and fries and that was amazing! Service was friendly and would recommend this establishment. Definitely make a stop here.

I've been coming to Jullian for over 40 years and I've been to this place before many times and I've always really enjoyed the environment and how it was built in 1872 It was the original apple pie Café here in Julian. But I do have to say, the service was horrendous. Patti, our server was one of the worst waitresses I've ever been helped by. I told her that I thought that she was extremely rude and she said she didn't care and if I wanted to, I could just leave, as I was leaving. She does not represent this. Restaurant and I am very saddened by the fact that she thinks she could treat people that way because the place is obviously busy all the time.

Darling place. They sell pies, candles and have a selection of lemonade/flavored tea. Great western vibe and super friendly s. The coleslaw is bomb, you know it is really hard to find good coleslaw. This place has it. I had the liver and onions with extra, extra onions. There was a lot of onions on top and a lot of bacon. The liver and onions was delicious, but needed a little salt. With the extra little bit of salt, it is some of the best liver and onions I've ever had. The mashed potatoes and gravy was delish too. My husband had the chicken pie turn over. He said it was effing good!!!! The stacks of fries coming out of the kitchen were hot and high and I wish a couple had fallen on my table. But, I had to finish my lunch fryless. I would absolutely come back here and order the same thing. Morgan was our server, she did a great job. She was very attentive and quick.

First time coming to this cafe and had a great experience. Our waitress Kara was super nice and quite efficient. Service here is spot on. Drinks were refilled and we got our food quite fast. We ordered their chicken pot pie with a side of coleslaw and mashed potatoes. It was super delicious with huge hearty portions!!! I would say my most favorite restaurant chicken pot pie ever. I also got a Dutch apple pie with whip cream and it was slightly toasted, cinnamon packed flavor, and quite sweet. They even have a selection of apple cider to choose from but we were too full for this ad a second dessert. Indoor ambiance is quite warm and friendly and cozy. Definitely will be back here again soon. They even have their own bed and breakfast cottage via Air bnb.

I wanted to try everything, but we opt on getting a few dishes to share. Our son ordered the filet mignon and they were able to substitute mashed potatoes for fries. Amazing!! The mac & brisket appetizer appeared to be the highlight and specialty and we just had to order it. Every bite was cheeesy and delicious with the brisket very moist. We couldn't go without ordering the Brussels sprouts and it had a twist with ponzu sauce and pineapple. Definitely a different take and I thoroughly enjoyed the taste. Every bite was foodgasmic and I highly recommend!!! I knew coming here that some Yelpers have experienced wavering in quality, so glad we did not experience that at all. The burgers were very tasty, the fries were excellent, and the relaxed atmosphere near the lake made for a really enjoyable stop. What made the visit especially memorable was our server, Will. After placing our order, I realized I had forgotten my wallet, which created a stressful moment as I tried to figure out where I might have left it. When I shared this with Will, he asked if I was married, which I shared that I am unfortunately going through a divorce. He responded with genuine empathy, sharing that he had also gone through difficult times himself. He suggested ways we could work out payment, encouraged me not to worry, and allowed us to continue enjoying our meal while I sorted it out. That level of compassion, kindness, and understanding made a real difference. I even brought friends who had never been here before, thinking it could become one of our regular stops when we're out hitting the trails. Instead, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth... and not just from the food. Waitress: Where do I even start. She claimed she was hard of hearing--but her attitude spoke loud and clear. Tossing menus on the table, aggressively slamming salsa down, and getting snarky over being off because our party count was off by one person. Seriously? It took two seconds to adjust the table, but apparently that was just too much. Yes, she technically did her job... but with such a cold, unwelcoming, and rigid attitude that it made the whole experience uncomfortable. What really stood out? We were there first and ready to order, yet she chose to take care of every smaller table that came in after us. No communication, no "I'll be right with you," nothing. Just ignored. Basic courtesy clearly isn't part of the service here. And trust me--I used to be a waitress. I handled large parties all the time and actually communicated with my tables. It's not that hard. Honestly, if gratuity hadn't already been forced onto the bill, she would've gotten $0. The only pleasant person we encountered was the busser--quick, friendly, and actually seemed like he wanted to be there. Maybe swap their roles, because he outperformed her by a mile. Food: Let's talk about the food... if that's what we're calling it. Everything came out cold. Not "warm-ish," not "could be hotter"... just straight up cold. It felt like our plates were sitting under a heat lamp for way too long before making it to the table. One "white" friend asked to have her meal fixed--fine, no problem. But when another "Hispanic" friend asked the same thing? Suddenly there was attitude, menu slamming, and mumbling under her breath. So... what exactly was the difference? Why the inconsistency and hostility? If the kitchen is that backed up, maybe management should step in and help instead of letting food die in the window. Just a thought. Final Thoughts: This place had potential... but that waitress single-handedly ruined it. We'll be taking our group (and our money) elsewhere--Dudley's Bakery is looking like a much better option moving forward. I usually bring large groups out here, so this isn't a small loss. Unfortunately, if this is the level of service they're okay with, this place isn't going to improve anytime soon. At this point, it's less "Farmhouse charm" and more "junky barn energy."

This wasn't just a fried chicken sandwich--it was a statement…read more You can taste the difference immediately. The chicken is insanely crisp on the outside, juicy and clean on the inside--not greasy, not heavy, just done right. The kind of crunch that actually means something. The slaw brings freshness and balance, the bun is soft but holds up, and every bite feels intentional. But what really sets this place apart is the sourcing. Everything is local. You're not eating some mass-produced, freezer-to-fryer shortcut--you're eating ingredients that came from nearby farms, raised and prepared with care. That shows up in the flavor, the texture, and honestly how you feel after. It hits that rare sweet spot: indulgent, but still clean. Even the fries--simple, crispy, not drowning in oil--feel like they belong next to it, not just an afterthought. This is what food should be. Real ingredients, done well, no corners cut. Comfort food that doesn't leave you wrecked. Local. Thoughtful. Straight up dialed.

Recently went for brunch for the first time, outdoor patio space was lovely. Pancakes were delicious and the bacon/potatoes were great as well. My only suggestion would be having ketchup/hot sauce/sugar packets at the table already since it gets so busy at times it can take awhile for someone to grab them for us. Overall, everyone who works there is lovely and the food is always excellent!

I was craving a burger and went with the Beef Angus with cheddar and fries. The burger was solid with a mildly flavored patty and fresh garnishments. However, the fries were a 10/10! They were made with a delicious batter and fried to perfection; they taste great with ketchup, ranch, or even just on their own. The service was quick, friendly, and accurate. There is plenty of seating both inside and on the patio. I especially love that they are so open and welcoming to PCT thru-hikers. It's a great local spot and we'll definitely be back. Thank you!

This little restaurant is owned by a couple French guys and to be honest they've got some really interesting looking French dishes on their menu that I bet are fantastic. I would love to try them sometime and I bet that would increase my score of this restaurant. They've got four taps and the beers come out frigidly cold. Absolutely perfect after being outside. My burger was pretty good, the patty definitely gave me frozen burger vibes, but the fries were amazing. They are that battered type that is super crunchy. I asked for a side of ranch dressing and it was a prepackaged Ken's steakhouse branch. Was a little disappointed by that, hoping for homemade ranch, but not a dealbreaker. The server was very friendly and very quick. The interior is cute, looks like a log cabin, and in the front, there is a very nice looking patio area that if you want to be outside looks quite enjoyable. They are obviously very supportive of the PCT hikers. They've even got a little area where you can buy snacks and put them into a donation bucket for the hikers which I think is cool.
