Mom's Pie House has my hubs heart! He wanted to try every single pie you have in here without thinking twice! Sweet treats are the way to my guys heart! We came in here and he wanted a slice of everything! I'm not a super sweets fan, and definitely not a pie person. Something about baked fruit, I'm not a fan of. My eyes widened and limited him to two slices and some cookies! We got two slices of pie, Strawberry Rhubarb and Bumbleberry (Blackberry, Blueberry and Raspberry) the trifecta of berries! We also grabbed a couple of small cookie packages, Snickerdoodles and Ginger snaps. Pie slices are $6.50, add $2 if you want to add a scoop of ice cream (olds school Thrifty Ice Cream! Yum!) Mom's is a cozy spot along Julian's main street. We came during a March weekday and walked right up to the counter and found a spot to sit down -- that's the time to visit! We shared a slice of strawberry-rhubarb pie with a crumble top (They give you a choice of two topping styles) and had a hot drink each. I was disappointed that even though we dined in, we were given a paper carton to hold the pie with plastic utensils and paper cups. So much waste and not the 'experience' I would have preferred. Still, the pie was delicious. At $6.50+tax a slice, we shared. The restaurant is on the small side with un-cushioned wooden booth benches for seating. (Slightly uncomfortable!) This was our second time visiting the area and it really makes a difference between weekday and weekend. The first visit was a saturday and it was so crowded. Took about 30 minutes to find parking and lines everywhere to get into the small businesses. 2nd visit was completely different. Not busy at all, found parking right away, and no lines. And this was on a friday at 1pm. Theres a variety of flavors to choose from. We had to go with apple caramel crumb and the chocolate pecan pie. Absolutely delicious and they warm it up for you. we opted not to get ice cream because we didnt want the extra diabetes haha. The place itself isnt that big but Theres a number of tables to sit inside but on busy days, it can get packed quickly. the staff here were nice both times. Definitely a must try if you are visiting. They also have another stand alone location about 15 minutes away, not sure how that looks but will probably check it out on our next yearly visit. read more

Gimme them dumplings dumplin'! How much is that pie that's in the window? Popped in to scoop up what I thought was a mini cherry pie in the window. It turns out that it wasn't cherry, and instead was apple razzle dazzle berry or something like that. There were so many different berries in that thing, even the staff member had to look at the menu to remember what they were. No biggie, I really appreciated they took the time to get it right rather than raffle off whatever they remembered from memory. I decided to pass on the whole apple brambleberry express, and instead went with the dome shaped delight known as the apple dumplin'. Who doesn't love a little dome and a little dumplin'. Ahhh I kid. But yeah, that thing had a beautiful cream cheese crust that was cooked to perfection. Inside was a thin caramel like sauce and a whole baked apple. Although I loved the crust and the sauce, the apple itself was tougher than I imagined. It ended up being kind of rubbery, like soft but not fork or spoon soft. It wasn't hard to chew, it just took what I thought would be a single utensil experience, to a full on knife and fork dealio. It was tasty, and I enjoyed it, but I just wish the apple had been softer inside. Friendly staff, quick and easy service, and plenty of pies to choose from. Whenever we come to Julian I must get a pie from Mom's Pie House. I don't usually like apple pie but my husband let me take a bite out of his apple pie flaky crust and I loved it. I got back in line to order my own and tried the crumb crust and we both preferred that crust over the flaky. I have tried other pies such as Rhubarb Strawberry Crumb, Pumpkin (with whipped cream), and Pecan. A slice is $6.50. I enjoyed them all. I'm still in the works of persuading my husband to take a whole pie home to heat up. Street parking can be hard especially during the weekends. The line may be long but it moves. Every time I have come service has been patient and kind. There is seating inside. It has a country home kinda vibe. There is another location which I prefer because it has its own parking. A lot more indoor seating. They have outdoor seating which is pet friendly. They have so many pies that I'm not going to list them out. We got the apple crumble pie and it was sweet and sugary with lots of apples. It was an experience of a lifetime like I have no words. We bought an entire pie and a small jug of apple cider for $25. Between the two of us the pie lasted all week. There are instructions for reheating the pie inside the box. The staff worked quickly for the people who had pies at the shop and for the people who took the pies to go. The staff has a very get it, got it, done attitude which was perfect for such a busy place. Despite the high traffic, everyone remained friendly, respectful, and focused. As for the pie itself, I ordered the flakey bumble berry pie and the flakey pumpkin pie. Both were absolutely delicious. Even after returning to them hours later they remained as delicious as ever. Presentation-wise, the pumpkin pie looked basically perfect while the bumble berry looked a little crazy. The slice was large though so I promise you I'm not complaining here. We ordered the traditional apple pie with crumble, topped with a scoop of ice cream, and it was perfect -- warm, flavorful apples with just the right balance of sweetness and spice, and that crumble topping takes it to another level. Pairing it with hot apple cider made it even better, especially on a cool Julian day. Everything we tried was delicious and clearly made with care. Well, who doesn't love a good apple pie? There are a few options in this town for Apple pie. I've tried the other one now It was time to give this one a whirl. I usually get Str8 apple pie, but this time I opted for the caramel apple pie, which was good, but I felt like the caramel changed the flavor a little bit. Pleasant experience! I had done my research beforehand and knew to go to Mom's instead of Julian Pie Co for a more authentic homemade experience. We were there around 10am on the Saturday morning before Thanksgiving and there was shockingly no line! The guy who took our order was nice so I asked him if the sugar free apple pie had any fake sugar in it and he informed me that it didn't contain anything artificial and they use their homemade apple cider to sweeten it. I was sold! I got the sugar free instead of the regular and got it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream - it was delicious! Not too sweet, just the way I like it! It was very cute inside with a very small town/mom and pop feel. It got busy with a line stretching out the door soon after we ordered so we got real lucky! We went on a weekday so the line wasn't terrible. It was nice and cold in Julian and this place totally hit the spot. We got an apple berry slice and an apple cherry slice and they were both wonderful to help ward off the cold air. Despite being cold, it's imperative to get it à la mode and with their homemade delicious whipped cream. We also got a hot apple cider, which was very delicious and piping hot. Totally recommended on cold days there. The only downside here would be that their pies sell out fast because they're so good so make sure you keep an eye on the overhead menu board because things will literally sell out while you're in line.
