Apple Alley Bakery is a traditional feeling small-town restaurant that may not be as well known as Mom's or the Julian Apple Company but has at its heart, pies and cookies that are seriously awesome. We shared a lunch special that included a soup, chips, and turkey sandwich. The turkey sandwich was neatly made and neatly cut in half for us and although the staff did not have to, we were provided us with an extra bag of chips. I can't stop thinking about the homemade tomato soup which was incredible as it tasted more like a tomato bisque soup without retaining too much of a bisque's thicker texture. We also got the boysenberry apple crumb pie which we absolutely loved and thought was better than the apple pies we tried around town! Not only does the pie have a good amount of crunch, the sweetness is more subtle and the pie tasted freshly made. Another highlight was the molasses cookie which, to be frank, was the BEST molasses cookie we've ever had. It's hard to explain why as I would say it does not retain the typically strong profile of molasses while retaining just the right amount of flavor and sweetness. The owner, Lisa is also incredibly friendly and kind and makes you feel right at home when you enter. She really made us feel really welcome. We also enjoyed sitting in the outdoor space in the alley to which this restaurant includes. So when you're ever in Julian, don't skip Apple Alley Bakery - you won't regret it! read more

What a cute little place for the area's specialty, Apple pie. They offer different varieties of apples pies. Regular, caramel with walnuts, mango apple pie etc..... We selected the caramel walnut apple pie and a cup of coffee to go with our afternoon snack. It was so good especially with the melted vanilla ice cream with it. Great service! The lunch special was reasonably priced. Half sandwich, bowl of soup or salad and a slice of pie for under $20.00. The homemade wheat bread was soft, warm slightly sweet thick sliced bread. The bacon potato soup was delicious!! I dug into my food before I got a picture. Now waiting on our pie and ice cream. Only down side, all places you visit here you have to use the restrooms behind the Town hall. With all tourists the plumping can't handle it in the old buildings. read more

This hidden gem is my favorite pie shop on Julian's Main Street. It definitely gets overshadowed by the larger establishments. It's a little spot with an appropriate name. Just a few tables inside and a small counter to order from. But it has my favorite pie from julian and the only one I even bother to buy a whole one of. Their caramel apple pecan pie is my absolute fave. The glazed/toasted pecan and caramel do not overpower, but they add enough flavor and texture to an otherwise plain apple pie. Husband enjoys the boysenberry apple crumble pie, which is also a WiN. Like other pie shops, they off huge scoops of vanilla or cinnamon ala mode as well. Debby and her sister in law was so sweet. It was my first time visiting Julian for family and they made it unforgettable. All my friends and family ended up ordering about nine pies and cookies. I don't even like pies. I bought and ate mine. All the locals recommend this location and it did not disappoint. I had tried every Pie in Julian except for Apple Alley Bakery . There was a power outage in Julian when we came 'coz of the strong winds, so pretty much every pie store was closed except for Apple Alley bakery. So we gave this place a try. My husband, my Son, and his two friends with us were taking so long to choose which pie to get 'coz there were so many good ones they saw, but I'm so thankful of the lady on the front that I wish I got her name to give her a shout out here that she had been so nice and so patience to my Boys taking forever to choose their pie. So here is what we tried here: *CARAMEL APPLE PECAN *APPLE MANGO *STRAWBERRY  RHUBARB *APPLE BOYSENBERRY *BERRY TURNOVER This place is small, but they also have an outdoor seating area which we chose to sit down at because we saw some apple trees in their outdoor seating area. We got our food fast. Everything was good, but my favorite one was the Caramel Apple Pecan. This pie is absolutely a must-try here, it was such a good combination of apple and pecan, with a nice crust too. The one that I liked least among the ones we tried here was the Berry Turnover, I wanted an Apple Turnover, but they were out that day, so I just settled for their Berry turnover. This Turnover was actually delicious too, but I wish it had some fruits on it, not just the Jelly filling. I appreciate that  it was over-filled, but thats the thing, every bite I took the Jelly kept dripping out 'coz it's overfilled. But the Service and Pies are good here. read more

Went there today for the first time. We ordered the sandwich specials; roast beef and turkey, which were nothing special. The soup (chicken dumpling) was flavorless and I'm wondering if it was even homemade. We were literally the only ones there and it took like 30 minutes to come out. Lately I've been driving up to Julian for a slice of pie at Apple Alley to get myself a piece of vegan apple pie traditional very tasty! They carry all varieties of pies non-vegan whole pies. I stopped in here for pie because every other place in Julian that served pie had lines standing out on the sidewalk. Little did I know that I was going to get the best piece of pie that I have ever had. I got the caramel apple pecan with cinnamon ice cream, and coffee. The crust was flaky and crunchy, the apple chunks were huge (two bites apiece for me) and the pecan topping was just heaven. The cinnamon ice cream went really well with the pie and I put some in my coffee instead of creamer. So good! The two ladies who run the place were super nice and friendly, and I had to stop by the next day to get a picture of the pecan pie because I ate it so fast that I didn't get a picture. read more

I love this little mom and pop pie shop. It's not as big and extravagant as Julian pie company or moms, but its pie surely stands up to them. Plus, this is a small business, which I feel we need to support. In the past, I met the gentleman who owns this shop and he's such a sweet older gentleman. We tried a sugar free apple pie slice, it was pretty good. I'll say it's not as good as Julian pie co but similar with Mom's pie. How refreshing to find this gem!! We ordered turkey sandwiches and we were delighted to find that they were made with FRESH ingredients! The bread was soft, the romaine lettuce was crispy. The sandwiches came with chips and a crunchy dill pickle! The portions were large. The potato soup was flavorful, hot and came with saltine crackers! The $15 lunches special is great . My daughter got the 1/2 sandwich, soup and pie and was so full she couldn't finish everything. My husband and I got gluten free sandwiches and the gluten free apple berry pie which is more of a crumble than pie but very good. The gluten free bread however was not good. It tastes like Udis white bread. It was not toasted so it fell apart. If you do order a GF sandwich ask for the bread to be toasted. That should help a lot. It's that time again ladies and gents! Apple season has finally arrived. And every year since I was a kid, I look forward to my annual visit the town of Julian to kick off that PSL season. Apple Alley Bakery serves lunch and delicious baked goods. The ladies are as sweet as the pie they serve. My usual spot was closed today, so it was a good time to try a different spot. Ordered their caramel pecan apple pie and it has now become one of my faves in town. All the goodness of apple pie that you know and love but melded together with that ooey gooey goodness that's known as caramel with a pecan nut crunch. Such a medley of textures and warm flavors. Serve it up with a side of their vanilla or churro ice cream and there you have it. An amazing fall afternoon with no other company necessary. Well maybe a cup of black coffee for me. Mr. Coffee's always welcome. They even have gluten free pies. At the time I visited however, I don't think any were baked unfortunately. They do have them frozen for you to take home and bake however. No other pies are frozen or available to bake at home. I hope they can offer frozen pies as an option like other pie shops. It's amazing. This establishment opened up a wormhole through time. I walked in the store 11/26/24 and walked out just before Halloween in 2028. I wanted to get a pie for my father but just in case I had him update his will. Seriously we saw one couple order 1 pie and 3 pastries and that transaction took 20 minutes. Look I understand the long lines but the fact that each transaction was so slow... And add insult to injury I actually ordered a slice of pie. Apple Alley Bakery is a great name for a place that looks situated between two buildings. The great thing about this establishment, is that there is some good outdoor dining to the side and back of the bakery. I saw the Caramel Apple Pecan Pie, and knew I had to have it. I ordered up a slice with a cup of coffee. The outside area is a nice place to sit and chill with your four-legged friend. The nice May Julian weather is cool and calm making it perfect to enjoy your pie outdoors in the fresh air. We ate A LOT of pie during our week in Julian, and Apple Alley hands down had the best crust. Controversial but true! We popped in early one morning to beat the crowds and had a slice of mango apple pie for breakfast. 10/10 recommend & would do over and over again.
