Three courses of savory and sweet treats including finger sandwiches, scones, pastries, and cookies with as much tea you can drink. The staff are always friendly and nice, and they make sure my food is safe from food allergens. The tea room can sit up to about a dozen people (my gals and I have booked the whole room once!) with two small tables for 1-3 people and then one larger table. If you aren't having the high tea, you can also shop their tea room, with both loose and bagged tea, tea cups and teapots, jellies, curd, and other pantry items and tea accessories. They also have other fun kitchen items (don't forget to check out the room upstairs for more cute gift ideas.

Tea and Food: Both the house welcome tea and our tea of choice were outstanding. We ordered a pot of the Caramel Vanilla tea and it was very tasty. Absolute 5/5 for the teas. The food was generally good. Scones are served with whipped cream and there was a solid variety of sandwiches, scones, and desserts. We ended up taking quite a few items to go. Service: Service was attentive and friendly. We were served by two younger ladies who were lovely. There's also a few older ladies that checked in with us periodically. Parking: Street parking. We parked on Julian Main St and walked over.

I loved their interior decor; although there has been certain comments on it not giving "purple owl" vibes, I think everything looks well put together with several purple colored and owl decorations that respond to the name. There could always be more, but that seems like a nice fit to me, lol. Anyway, I loved my Fun Guy tartine with potatoes, and my matcha tasted just how I like it. Vegan whipped cream was on the menu, but they did not have it, so that was a bummer, but I'll call it blessing in disguise to avoid more calories. My friend and I wanted to try the Beyond Papas, but they were all out of beyond meat. She ended up ordering the Luca tartine and said it was okay but has had better. She loved her Purple Owl drink though! They had a clean restroom outside, which was a plus! I even returned to use it again before I hit the road back home because the porta potty lines were seriously unfavorable, and I'd rather go here (clean restroom over a porta potty) anytime I'm back in Julian.

We already got our pie fix at Mom's, but made this our last stop before heading out. It was so cold out, a super chilly day, there's nothing more perfect than to grab a hot cup of steaming Apple Cider! It hit the spot! I couldn't stop just standing there sipping my hot cider while waiting for our to go items to be prepared. We got two apple cider donuts, one cinnamon sugar and one chocolate dipped. Long ago, I tried these tiny heart shaped pie crust cookies covered in cinnamon and sugar - Apple Memories! These are crisp tiny bites of love that you want to take home every single time! There are actually two buildings. One where you can grab a bite to eat, the other has all the merchandise, and both have whole frozen pies to grab to go! The building where you can dine has a small inside dining area, it can get cozy in there, but on a chilly day, that is exactly what you want! Just outside there is plenty of room outdoors to enjoy the scenery. In the merchandise building I couldn't help myself... we took home a whole gallon of apple cider, and also bought a jar of Cinnamon Apple Honey Spread and a jar of Apple butter... absolute yum! The hubs also decided to try the apple cinnamon chapstick! Yes, you can grab one of these famous pies at many different establishments throughout San Diego. To make name a few, Iowa Farms, Spring Valley Market, Siesel's and even at Vons! But if you're in Julian, don't forget to try a pie, grab some Apple Memories, and don't forget to bring a hot thermos to take that hot Apple cider to go! Enjoy!!! Simply the Best! This is a tough one. This place does good food. And beer. But I went in asking about their…read moreprotocols for gluten allergies. There are limited dinner options in Julian. And with a kid with celiac, who can get sick for days if a crumb of bread is digested, options are even more limited. We were stoked when the woman at the register pointed out that the bbq and salads were mostly GF (without croutons). And while she did mention there's a chance of cross-contamination with the gluten free pizza, as they make pizzas and there's flour around, she mentioned they change gloves and use clean utensils and have had many celiac folks eat there without issue. Bit we went instead for the most basic and least risky options. Half smoked chicken and a wedge salad. Then I saw the house made pickles. My kid loves pickles. I asked if they were GF. Any seasoning or anything that might contain gluten? She asked the cook and he said no. Gluten free. Which makes sense. They're pickles. Took the order back to the house and the kid went straight for the pickles. I don't have the time to explain how awesome it is when this kid, who's whole outlook on food has been shattered because of the celiac, can have some pickles and not have to think about getting sick. But here we are. From pure joy to anxiety and sadness in two seconds flat. I'm posting this not to bag on this establishment or the people that work there. We know it's a kitchen that serves food and drinks containing gluten. But when I've asked about protocols and tried to do my best to get the info, as well as making it clear that we are trying to be very careful about gluten as it's an allergy, not a preference, and then being reassured that the pickles and the bbq is as safe as they can make it, I was pretty bummed to find a whole freakin crouton in the middle of the container of pickles. Half of which the kid had already happily devoured. We The restaurant industry is not set up for people with food allergies. We know this. We try our best to navigate it by asking questions and getting as much info as possible. There are places that don't even know what celiac is. So we leave. There are places that are extremely knowledgeable about it from front of house to the chef. Those places we can put more trust in. It's never 100%. But fortunately we've had more good experiences than bad with restaurants that take it seriously. I'm sure this was a mistake. Not intentional. Pickles too close to the croutons. I can see how it can happen. All I'm asking is to be better about it. Be aware. Especially when I've asked repeatedly if it's all good and the answer given is yes. Or just tell me it's not safe to eat there for people with celiac and we can be on our way. A lot of restaurants are becoming more aware and offering more GF options. This is great. Lots of people eat gluten free to avoid carbs or because of gluten sensitivity. Celiac is another level. And a painful one at that. We appreciate and love going to eat food at places that take it seriously. Hoping for more of those places in the future. Julian Beer Co. we love you, but take note. Croutons don't belong in your pickles.

We came in here and he wanted a slice of everything! I'm not a super sweets fan, and definitely not a pie person. Something about baked fruit, I'm not a fan of. We also grabbed a couple of small cookie packages, Snickerdoodles and Ginger snaps. Pie slices are $6.50, add $2 if you want to add a scoop of ice cream (olds school Thrifty Ice Cream! Yum!) We made the drive out to grab one of their pies to bring back and try. I was impressed they had 8 different types of pies the day we came. The staff was really nice and answered all our questions. We ended up getting their Summerberry Apple pie which was an apple pie with all sorts of berries in it. It was absolutely insanely delicious. It was perfectly sweeten, had the perfect filling to crust ratio, and the crumble on top was heavenly. It was a hit with our friends back home and highly addicting. I recommend it. Besides their popular pies they also had cinnamon buns, cookies, sweet and savory pastries. I did also get a blueberry scone which was alright but I probably wouldn't get again. California Mountain Bakery also has a full food menu which carries items like sandwiches. The restaurant is pretty large. You order at the register and they'll call you when its ready. There's a whole dining area inside and out. I would most definitely be back and highly recommend them.
