This little market (full service market I might add) is a sight for sore eyes, especially living in Warner Springs where you have 2 choices: drive to Temecula for the few items you forgot on your weekly planned drive or the gas station mini market which has very few fresh produce items. Don's has a large variety of fresh produce, a butcher section, some premade deli foods (sushi being one), choice selection of baked goods, (Julian Pies their pride) and so on, including our Mexican staple items. Small space & the aisles are narrow, but you'll always find what you need. The big plus is Kate who is the friendliest being we're blessed to encounter and also an asset for many reasons. Knowing she's there makes me feel comfortable shopping there. Busiest times are the weekends and if you see something get it or you might miss out. Quality is excellent. read more

Great experience. The butcher answered a bunch of turkey questions for me and the they had an amazing sale on turkeys as well. Lots of nice birds the day before Thanksgiving. This place is really good has lots of fresh produce and good dried fruit, honey desserts they even have sushi that was very good. Lots of candy for the kids loved the fact that they had fresh fruits and vegetables, and a very good selection. I will definitely return to this place when I stay in Julian again. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! If you are missing the local flavor of the region, it still lives on strong at Don's Market. Twice on an out and about everywhere else was just too crazy expensive for the value and venue. Twice I've stopped here to my delight and discovered real people, true value, and quality food that I remember from my childhood of 50 ish years ago living in Wisconsin where little deli markets like this were seemingly everywhere. Visited 2/12/2019 This is one great well stocked country market. I pick up odds and ends all the time here. A great selection of liquor A great selection of liquor, ice cream, bread, and most everything else you might need in a pinch. Yes it's a little bit more expensive than a supermarket in the city but you also don't have to drive far when you live out here. Dons has a great meat department with Quality Black Angus beef. There is a small produce section with most of your needs. Ice cream section always has a great variety of brands and types of ice cream bars. They even have some of the local fresh baked pies and bread. It's worth a stop if you need something. Enjoy read more

I have always wanted to purchase a meat freezer order, so I grabbed a flyer from Don's market to do cost comparisons with. I ultimately settled on the Don's Market Super Pack. I then did a cost comparison for the equivalent weights of the items of the Super Pack versus a major chain grocery (name starts with a "V") and the big home delivery grocer (first word starts with an "A" and the second word starts with an "F"). It turns out Don's Super Pack was between $85 to $100 LESS than either the "V" store or "A.F." ! The top sirloin steaks were simply sublime, and they also made wonderful teriyaki skewers! The ground chuck made the most wonderful meatloaf and spaghetti sauce (there was just enough fat to make the bottom of my non-stick skillet glisten, and the grind was chunky enough so that it didn't just totally fall apart, nor was there any steam during frying.). The chicken had NONE of that "chicken smell", and it made great slow-cooked taco meat. The sausage was great in both Italian baked pasta and the spicy variety for black-eye peas. The pork chops were great, either whole or sliced for stir fry. So, if you're planning a day trip to Santa Ysabel (or Julian), just place your order through their website and pack a couple coolers in your car - you'll be GLAD you did! The staff is definitely friendly just watch out for the advertised "tourist" specials. It's a good stop if you're traveling to Julian.They have a little bit of everything including meat, veg, and dairy. I usually grab some bottled water and salty snacks here on the way up the grade. This last weekend I saw Julian Hard Cider for sale for 5.99 a bottle. There was a bunch of promotional "Sale" prices associated with it. I grabbed a bottle just in case I wasn't able to make it to main Julian Hard Cider Store. So when I got to the actual Hard Cider store up near Julian I come to find out they sell it for a five bucks. A buck less than the "sale" price at Don's. One star penalty for tourist abuse. read more

Today in particular customer service representative named Tonya was amazing. There was a gentleman outside with a heat stroke and she went all the way to getting him bags of ice and calling 911, making sure he was ok. You're driving to Julian and you go to make the traditional pit stop in Santa Ysabel for Dudley's bread, but Dudley's is closed. What do you do? What *do* you do??? This has happened to us the last two times we've driven to Julian (I think Dudley's closes at 5 and isn't open certain holidays). Thankfully, we had Don's Market right next door to save the day. Don's is a pretty busy place, considering the fact that it's yer basic corner market in a town with no stoplights. It's got obscure local postcards (which I always enjoy) and a deli, but the best part is the Dudley's bread. I'm not sure how much Dudley's bread goes for in Dudley's bakery any more, but it's not cheap at Don's. It's around $4.50 a loaf. There isn't the same selection as at Dudley's, but Don's does a pretty good job of keeping the raisin walnut bread and (my favorite) the fruit bars in stock. (As always on Yelp, the map is completely wrong. Don's Market is *right* next door to Dudley's, right near where Highways 78 and 79 meet.) read more

Great little grocery store next to the Julian pie company. They have alot of the local products and a good deli for fresh sliced meats for sandwiches. If you plan to get hard apple cider, it is 50 cents cheaper here than at Julian station. They also had two additional flavors not featured at the station. Another plus is the full bakery rack of fresh Dudley bread. So many choices. read more

I think Don deserves a better score than 3 1/2 stars. Don's has an exceptional selection groceries, Frozen Foods, great breads from Dudley's Bakery nexy door as well as regular breads and a blue ribbon Butcher. For being out in the middle of nowhere they are exceptional. read more

For a small town store, Don's is the place I shop at and will continue to do so. I went to this market about 6 months ago & bought a day old sandwich which was terrible. The bread was soggy & the deli meat & cheese tasted real bad (old). I called them to let them know but they acted very ignorant. I didn't put it on yelp. I went again over the weekend & bought a premise sandwich but not the day old one like last time. The sandwich cost $7.99 & was almost as bad as last time. I ate half the sandwich because I was hungry but I had to throw the other half away. I would never buy one of their sandwiches in the future! This is the best and most affordable supermarket anywhere in the area (including Julian). Many of their prices are better than Stater Brothers or Albertsons (in Ramona). The staff is super friendly and they have AWESOME meat! They have U.S.D.A. top choice meat and it shows in the color. read more

What do you say about the only grocery store in town? Sad on veggies -but it is a remote spot - but if you're into meat, the butcher makes his own sausages which are wonderful. It's the only market in town. They have everything that you would ever need. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because you always have to wait in line. This is a very busy market so go wearing your patient pants! And also I agree, the map is very wrong. read more
