I'm in my thirties and have been coming to Julian since I was about 3 years old. Something about this town is that they thrive with apple pie and Dudley's bread, but the restaurant food has always been awful. When we came to visit today I wasn't expecting much from this restaurant. I can officially say that I was mind blown! The food is absolutely amazing and the service is outstanding. We are vegan and they had so many options for us. We got a potato taco plate and our son had a black bean burrito. We got the spicy hot sauce and it was Devine. We usually don't order special cocktails, but something told us to try the spiked spicy lemonade and I'm sure glad we did. Loved everything about this place. Have had dinner here a couple times and have a great experience each time! Staff is super friendly and they have such good chips and salsa. Their guacamole was so good and so fresh! I opted for the "Plato de papas" and it was so good! And on a previous trip I did their carnitas plate and it was really good too. The atmosphere is really nice and quiet, it's tucked in off of the main drag which is pretty nice. The owners of the old Mr. Manitas in Wynola (which had its own cult following) have stepped up their game and opened this fantastic sit down restaurant in the heart of downtown Julian. It's family owned and operated-- this husband and wife duo are killing it! The food is amazing! Always fresh and flavorful, and inspired by the traditional Mexican cuisine where Jose, the husband/owner/chef was born and raised. The wife/owner (born and raised in the USA), runs the front of house, designs their delicious cocktails, and is on the floor every day serving tables side by side with her staff. You can feel the heart and soul in everything they do, and the ambiance is super cute too! It's steps away from Main Street Julian, and you can easily pop in here for a bite to eat while taking a break from shopping and exploring Julian. My family and I have been going up to Mr. Manitas in Julian Station since we moved to Ramona a couple of years ago and were so sad to see it had closed the last times we stopped by. I had remembered the owner telling us their plans to expand up to Julian so I did a quick search and found they had opened Quecho. So we went yesterday and OMG! It is so cute, in a proper house on B street with a wrap around porch with bar style seating on one side and tables on the other. They have made the inside feel like you've stepped into an upscale eatery in the Guadalupe Valley, so cute. The food is even better than it was before and they have added cocktails and beer and wine. It's family and dog friendly, and the service was perfect. The portions are generous, especially for the cost. We had the guacamole starter, maragaritas, a couple of tacos, the house special Mocaljete with spicy gravy, chicken, chorizo, carne asada, peppers and cheese served with tortillas, rice and beans and were blown away. Currently recovering from the best food coma, thanks to this place. They have a selection of local brews, and house-made agua frescas. The watermelon agua fresca was amazing, tasted like a perfect summer watermelon. We ordered the ceviche de camarón, and wow. I have long held that the best ceviche comes from a hole in the wall place, but this was the best ceviche de camarón I've ever had. Not sure what it was - something in the salsa, that just made it perfect. Then we got the molcajete mixto... several small portions of meats, cheese, onions, and nopales, stewed in a perfect salsa verde. This was so good. I have no words, but I'll just say this: I got full about halfway through, and continued to eat because it was just that good. We came here early in the day, discovered a huge back garden, quiet and serene without noisy motorbike showoffs on the Main St. We were met with excellent house-made tortilla chips and a delicious mild salsa plus perhaps the best horchata I've ever had. And then we waited (apparently a large order came in and took precedence) - and waited some more. We were about to leave after about 45 minutes of waiting when the food finally came in. We decided to go back. It was delicious, and the restaurant gave us a discount, and we gave them an extra tip. Bathroom nice and clean. Staff very pleasant but not very attentive. Food Service a slow (~35 minutes plus). We sat by the door but there was a draught since it was a cold day. (Were driving back from camping in anza borrego) There is beer garden but since it was chilly we sat inside. I am trying to cut down on meat but the options were somewhat limited Based on the fact that we were told that certain items were not available because they had run out the ingredients must be nice and fresh. I have worked it out. It is "Elevated Mexican Cuisine" because it is on the hill above Main Street Initially gave it 4stars but as time goes on started to lower the rating based on the amount of time we had to spend here. The new restaurant looks bright and airy, and the food and agua frescas are delicious. I got the Plato de papas, and it was soooo good! I feel like I didn't get the same margarita as everyone else is describing. Three of us tasted them and they tasted like dilute lime water. No sweetness, no alcohol. Did they run out of tequila and agave? We asked for more syrup and they brought a dilute sugar water instead (with zero viscosity.) none of us could taste any alcohol, and there were no effects after drinking it. Came for a late lunch on a Sunday (no snow). Main street was very busy. Put our name down at another restaurant down the street, was told 20 min and they never actually called us. Stumbled upon this place and sat right away. Food was fresh and quick. We had the carnitas tacos, chicken bowl and kids bean/cheese burrito. Chips and salsa were also delicious. So glad we were able to try their Mexican food when we were staying in Julian for a weekend. At the time we ordered food they were only doing to go orders. I got the al pastor tacos, they were amazing and tasty. I was a fan of their salsa too. I also loved their shrimp ceviche, I recommend ordering a side of chips and guacamole to go with it. I was SO grateful to find vegan options in Julian! Came to town after a local hike during MLK weekend and Julian was extremely busy. A few restaurants were closed resulting in ridiculously long lines at most restaurants I initially had a hard time finding food until I came across Quecho Elevated Mexican Eatery. The menu clearly labeled food that could be easily made vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free, making it easy to order based on dietary preferences. I decided on the Plato De Papas which came with beans, Mexican rice, pico de gallo and avocado tamatillo salsa and my boyfriend got the Organic Pollo burrito. Both of our portions were huge! The potatoes weren't exactly what I was expecting as they seemed like they were boiled, but the salsa definitely made up for any lacking flavor. The chips and salsa were absolutely outstanding! By far the best tortilla chips we've ever had! The restaurant is just off the main strip, which was actually our preference because it wasn't as crowded as the other restaurants that had an extremely long wait.
