When each dish arrives, the server describes what it is which is nice. But with a larger table, a typical noisy din on a busy Saturday evening, often diners can't hear or understand what was said. The pork sauce was a nice pairing, but the fish sauce had a very strong green pepper and olive flavour which I did not enjoy. I had the coconut cream pie and basque cheesecake to finish. The coconut cream pie is big and perfect for sharing. It is very strong coconut and creamy, it wasn't my favourite pick for dessert but I can see why it's popular. I enjoyed the basque cheesecake. It was dense and creamy as expected. Maybe I had high expectations for Alder but sadly I just don't think anything was outstanding. Dinner came to around $200 for two people, not including drinks. Portions decent for the most part. There's a cake cutting fee of $10/pp if you bring your own cake.
