Smitty.. best server out there. This was our second time trying out this place. The food is 10/10 (thank you chef) and Smitty thank you for an awesome experience.

Great frozen margaritas on Saturday for $7. Food is pricey but good. Loved the dip trio. Small amount indoor but there is outdoor seating as well.

We had to post about this place. We were visiting Mathews City on our Saturday and spotted this place. It's unique and open concept with a bar in the front and sitting area on the side. It gives a hip and modern feel to the restaurant. We were greeted with a welcome in and later a stop by I believe the owner. Friendly staff and courteous waitresses. We ordered Chilaquiles and Tacos de huevo con tocino from the brunch menu. The food was delicious really. We ate that with some margaritas. They offered a four on a stacked. We loved them too. So good and easy and convenient to have a quick bite or stay a while. Thank you we will be back soon.

This is one of four locations right in mist of the town of Matthews across the road from Brace YMCA and Publix. Stopped in for a bite of lunch 12:45ish. Nice quaint atmosphere. Noticed from the signage outside they have daily specials to choose from. Today's (Wednesday) specials were $5 small Nachos and $5 Mojitos. We were greeted upon entering and seated quickly since there wasn't much of a crowd. I feel seating layout could be a bit better. Some would consider the tables uncomfortable for two especially once you add food and drinks. The menu has plenty to choose from. Our waitress was soft spoken sweet and helpful. Complimentary warm chips and authentic salsa were served. Something so simple yet so tasty. Ordered Chicken Fajitas and Guajillo Chicken. The fajitas came with salad, refried beans, and Mexican rice. The star of the show was the guajillo chicken entree. Grilled chicken breast smothered in red cheese sauce topped with bacon crumbles. The sides of cheesy rice and fried plantains help showcase the dish. Everything was delicious. Washed all of this down with a couple of their Wednesday special $5 Mojitos.

We had the bartender order for us, her knowledge was outstanding!

I'm very particular as I have eaten in many taco places around the World. This is the most authentic Mexican food I have had in Charlotte! This food was so flavorful, tender steak, very good pork, the service was impeccable. This is not a large place but it sure is worth it! They have outdoor seating! I loved the refried beans! Very tasty and the rice was fluffy and fresh! Freshness, high quality and a wonderful kind owner who greeted all the tables and made sure everyone was satisfied! Bravo!

It's one…read moreof those comfort foods I don't eat often because it's so rich--but when I see it on a menu, it absolutely catches my attention. That's exactly what drew me to The Southern Pecan in SouthPark. Here in the South, they call it country fried steak, and I'm happy to report this one did not disappoint. I met a colleague there for lunch, and everything about the experience felt easy from the start. The restaurant is located in Phillips Place, a lovely little shopping area that feels a bit polished and upscale--with shops like Orvis, Tory Burch, and even a Restoration Hardware restaurant nearby. They do offer valet parking, which is a nice touch, though honestly parking is easy enough on your own. We had reservations through OpenTable and were seated on the patio, which was absolutely delightful for this time of year in Charlotte. The weather was perfect, the setting was relaxed, and the service started off warm and welcoming right away. Now, the food. The country fried steak was beautifully cooked--crispy on the outside, tender inside, and served with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy that hit all the nostalgic notes from my Texas upbringing. I paired it with a vegetable side (I believe it was broccoli or corn), and it was a classic Southern plate done right. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, and to finish, we split a praline bread pudding, which felt like the perfect Southern ending to the meal--sweet, comforting, and indulgent without being overwhelming. The staff was friendly and attentive, and one of the things I continue to appreciate about Charlotte is how easy it is to connect with people. We even chatted with diners at nearby tables, which added to that welcoming, community feel that makes dining out here so enjoyable--especially for someone coming from the Bay Area. Prices felt fair for the quality, the setting, and the portion sizes, and overall the experience left a great impression. Bottom line: If you're craving a solid Southern classic like country fried steak--or just want a relaxed patio lunch in a charming part of SouthPark--The Southern Pecan is definitely worth a visit. And as someone happily eating my way through Charlotte and the Southeast, this stop was another reminder that the journey has been a delicious one.

That said, Yard Dog is not a dog at all, but a superb little restaurant with a great menu and mouth-watering foods. Oh boy! Wife and I entered and were surprised at just how small their dining area was. Couple that with a not-so-pleasant noise level, you will have difficulty seating more than four and conversation will be tough, but not impossible. You came to eat. It is a very cozy, busy and fun place. In addition to the super menu there is a chalk board with specials. Check those out first. I spotted catch of the day, which was Red Snapper, a favorite of mine, which came with two sides ($26). When served, it was three fillets, so the whole eatable parts of the fish, topped with a Cajun spice mixture and a horseradish sauce. This is a to-die-for or last meal item. The fish was perfectly cooked and my side of collards were as mammy has done for eons: flavorful with pork and a perfect complement to my catch of the day. And the fried okra was great and I paid the $.50 for ranch dressing, as fried okra SHOULD be so complemented. Wife does not eat sea food, so she was, initially, confronted with the challenge of finding a dish without seafood in it. She did. There were a number of options, like pasta with Andouille sausage ($21) which is listed as with shrimp, but they omitted the shrimp for her. She also spied blackened meatloaf and some other items for the next visit. The place is busy and the wait staff is hustling as fast as the kitchen can get orders out. The kitchen looks so small, but they are a blur of motion cooking and plating. Kudos to the kitchen and servers. Our server was Sophie and she was excellent. There are beverages on a separate menu, mostly wine, beer and hard cider, with some non-alcohol items also available. We both had hard cider at $6 a can. Draft beer was available at $7 a glass. We will definitely return, even give lunch a try. I will most likely answer the siren call for five stars, which is certainly in the cards. See for yourselves.

They're obviously trying to cover their behinds. Nothing they said about our situation was true. Seems like they don't care to change or fix their issues at all. This is very disheartening. My review is now 1 star instead of 2 on there. They really have lost their way lately. They used to be great. I don't know who they are anymore. Tonight I went out with some friends to grab a bite here and I wasn't impressed AT ALL. I ordered a steak medium rare and I was very insistent on mentioning that's how I wanted it. It came back WELL DONE... TWICE!! By the third time, the manger came out, told me they checked it when it was done cooking (it wasn't cut open at all before I did it so idk what he was talking about) and said he didn't want them to screw it up a third time (real show of confidence there...) so he offered to comp me for a different entree. I asked for a medium cooked burger. It came back well done (shocker) but it was covered so I endured and ate it (though it was pretty blah). The comping was the only reason I didn't give them one star here. Then the bill came, and the manger couldn't take 2 seconds to let me explain that we all were paying separately and the bill came back incorrectly... twice. The first time it was all on one bill (they never asked how we wanted it) and the second time it was split between 2 people when there were 3 of us. Oh and not to mention they rang up the two flawed steaks AND the burger I had that was supposed to be comped, on the bill. I understand they were probably busy but taking less than 1 minute to let me explain our situation would've gone a long way. The manager seemed very ancy and in a rush; which was ironic because I mentioned twice that we were trying to catch a movie and to please hurry (they didn't even come close). Again, I understand it was a Friday night, but it doesn't take 10 mins to get a check back. Sadly this isn't my first bad experience with them either. Last time I came here around a month or so ago, I got the fish and chips and it was lifeless. Not crispy at all, and absolutely no flavor. Oh and the live band was playing inside, so we had to move outside just so we could hear ourselves think and not go deaf. Just an FYI, live music night ain't it. Our waitress was fine, and overall the manager was kind and apologetic, but whoever is cooking back there needs to take some lessons or something. I give the cook an F- grade. Overall, I decided to post this because I've seen what The Lodge was in its glory days, and this is NOT it. Far from it. I debated posting this review because I'd hate to see this place get bad press; but I realized my experience tonight is even worse press if many people are experiencing this kind of dining disaster. I post this because I want to see this restaurant do better like I know it can. I'm rooting for it to do better. It needs to do better. A lot better. QUICKLY!!! I hope the staff that reads this, sees this as an opportunity to self-reflect and improve. I don't plan on coming back here for a while. I'll probably try this place again someday; and when I do, I really hope they will have taken these words to heart and make the improvements necessary. For the sake of The Lodge, and everyone who loves what it was, PLEASE DO BETTER!
