So, I wanted to like this place. It has a perfect location along the Campbell River waterfront, you can sit outside on the patio and really enjoy the views, the staff is friendly. Ultimately one must judge based on the food. I ordered the $37 sablefish entree. The fish itself was really good - very tender, really delicate soft sablefish. The miso sauce was a bit too much perhaps. However, the daikon which is a big part of the dish, was almost raw, way undercooked and it really ruined the dish. Fully cooked daikon should be almost transparent, and really soft. It's too bad, but for $37 it's fair to expect a fully cooked meal with no parts underdone. read more

I have a shrimp allergy and found it very hard to find a menu item without shrimp or red meat. The chowder has shrimp, the chicken curry bowl has shrimp paste, the salmon was on the special menu but not available. The oyster appetizer was 4 tiny, fried oysters. The seafood chowder, pulled pork sandwich, chicken wrap, and chicken tenders were all good. The bread pudding dessert was very good! The coffee was terrible and they need to work on that. A really like a 2.5 if not for the nice location and many outdoor seating. The outdoor seating was very nice. The chowder was good. The caeser was good, but pretty bog standard. The halibut fish & chips were good too, although breading was a little thick and sucked in a lot of oil. The baked salmon dip was more like a gratin. Probably better of selling it as a gratin. Pairing it with naan made the whole thing heavy. I would have preferred crackers or chips. Or maybe celery or something? The contents of the taco were good, and the mango salsa was nice, but I would have preferred the thousand island dressing not be drizzled all over the taco. Overall, not super motivated to come back if I visit Campbell River again. I'd likely opt to explore other local restaurants. read more

I'm surprised this place has such low reviews! My dad has been coming here twice a week for the past few weeks and I went last night for the first time - it is so good! I had the poke salad which was great but if I came back I would just get alllllll the appetizers - best calamari and fried oysters I've ever had! Make a reservation if you are here in the summer. They have a hard time adjusting to the influx of people staying at the marina so even if a bunch of tables are empty, they are understaffed in the kitchen so they keep some tables empty. They don't want to overload the kitchen and give people slow service, which I appreciate. So the one downside is that you come in and it seems half full, but the wait time may be like 20 minutes for that reason. read more

This place is right on the water. It's outside patio provides a beautiful view, and wonderful scenery. However that's really the only thing this place has going for it. I ordered the BBQ beef burger and the Pacific rim chowder. The chowder itself wasn't bad. A tasty amount of shrimp (but seemed like frozen shrimp) and salmon, but it was a little thin for a chowder, overall it wasn't bad, but I wanted more. The burger. I don't get why people won't make their own patties, but use frozen burger patties. I don't mind paying $18 for a burger, but when it's frozen and not scratch made, they turn out dry, flavorless, and a little sawdusty. The overabundance of sauce does little to make up for it. The restaurant was very busy and I came in with 4 adults and 2 kids on a Thursday afternoon. 4 server passed by and not one person acknowledged or stopped to greet our party at the door. Extremely rude as everyone looked and just turned away. No service so I give it a 1 star because I can't give no star. I was excited to come here for dinner on the water- however I wish I made another choice. Upon arriving I waited about 5 minutes to be told the hostess will seat me. I was seated on the patio with a great water view. I waited an additional 12 minutes (yes I timed it) before flagging down a server who was more than indifferent to my woes of waiting to take my order. I won't bore you with further details of my dinning experience but the seafood noodle bowl was just "OK"- bread pudding for dessert...... uninspiring. The presentation was nice as was the location - perhaps it was an off night or perhaps I wasn't prepared for the lack luster service and "adequate" food offerings. I recently moved to Campbell River, I recently saw this restaurant on Facebook page, had everything that would entice me to go in and try their food. Since take out was my only option I decided to try them out for my son's birthday. Prices were that of a high end restaurant, so I was expecting fairly good food. I ordered ribs and club wrap. Presentation for ribs was a D- Ribs were onto of fries and coleslaw, ribs were caked in thick what tasted like chili sauce. Bite into ribs only to be cold on inside Fall of the bone over cooked and dry to chew. So disappointed. Club wrap was ok, not hard to mess that up. Will I give them another chance?, Probably, but will be when I can walk in not take out. They need to look at their presentation before closing box to be sent out. read more

Been here twice now. Very nice food, choice to sit inside or out on the terrace with nice view, they even offer blankets if it gets chilly haha. We sat outside both times, one of which was a Sunday so I looked at the Sunday brunch menu and saw the New York steak and eggs. I had to order it, and loved it! Highly recommended! read more

I started with the lamb meatball appetizer, which made me think the negative reviews were just a off night. Then my steak came out... my tasteless, shoe leather, slab of meat. It was coated in some brown gravy which had given me a headache. I had a saucer handy, so I scraped as much off as I could, and ate from the saucer instead of my plate; headache started to subside. I will never eat here again. And I'm likely to slap my co worker that recommended this place. One negative review started they thought they may have changed chefs. This may be true, and explain older good reviews and the co worker's recommendation. Do yourself a favor, eat at any of the plethora of other restaurants in Campbell River. read more

I ate here twice over the weekend, so you can consider my rating to be a mix of the two experiences. First off, Quay West was recommended to me by a local as having some great food, so I came here with the expectation that it would be pretty good. Night #1 I ordered a couple stiff drinks of whiskey and had the steak and prawns to go. I ordered them to go because I arrived at 8:30 (they close at 9) and was literally the only person there at the time. So, I figured I would cut the kitchen a break and take my food to go. The steak was delicious. It was cooked properly and was a hefty portion. The menu said it would be 4 oz, but I think they upgraded me as a way of saying thank you. The prawns were well cooked and seasoned. I'd definitely order this as it seems they got it right! Night #2 I wandered in here after not eating all day and dined inside this time. After studying the menu for a while, I ordered the salmon, which sounded delicious. Since Campbell River is known for salmon, I practically salivated at the notion of delicious, fresh, local salmon, perfectly cooked. Alas that was not to be. The salmon arrived and it was overcooked. I managed to get through it and of course - perhaps they were just having an off night. However, I'll be steering clear of the salmon going forward unless I can verify that it is indeed fresh and local, and giving some cooking direction along with it. Overall - this place is good. I would bring folks here if I ate in town again. However, I'd probably stick to the basics, like steak and veer away from the seafood. read more

Steak sandwich with salad - steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, smothered in mushrooms & onions & served on garlic bread. Best part of our meal. Very nice. They only had 2 kinds of salad dressing, the one we ordered, white balsamic was sooo sweet. Not our preference. Wild mushroom ravioli - meh. We could not taste mushrooms no matter how hard we tried. Even when we scraped all the sauce off. The pomodoro sauce was very sharp & overpowering & there was about 3x more sauce than necessary. It came with a breadstick that looked like it had herbs in it but it had ZERO flavour. The Quay Caesar was delicious. The back porch lemonade was overly sweet, even after squeezing 2 large lemon wedges into it in an attempt to cut the sweetness. I come to Campbell River on business every 3 months and try to make a point of coming here because it's delicious. The first time I came I had the beet and arugula salad which was gigantic and delicious. This time I brought a friend. I had the Portobello burger (which was the other item I was deciding between on the first visit) with salad and he had the 2 piece cod and chips. Again, so amazing. Food was great. Made accommodations for allergies & substitutions for the potato hater. There are actually several choices of decent BC wine, at good prices. The next day, we got several recommendations for a competitor restaurant, which we found to be dreadful. We came back for lunch the next day; service was not as stellar, but still very good, as was the food Nice view, too. We will be back next time we are on Vancouver Island. read more

Quay West is located right on the waterfront in downtown Campbell River with plenty of parking nearby. I ordered the lamb meatloaf which was delicious as was the shiraz I chose to accompany it. The staff were friendly but clearly well-trained and professional which is not always the case in a smaller city.
