I can't recommend this company enough! Climate change has induced me to install A/C despite overlooking the bay. I researched well before deciding on a mini-split heat pump system. After a couple of quotes using inferior systems, after more research I stumbled upon Mitsubishi, whom Consumer Reports rates No. 1. From the company's site, I located these installers. After just 5 minutes with Daniel, their estimate person, I recognized a quality company. No hard sell, no BS, just a quite confident suggestion as to the best for my situation. Erica, in their office, was a breeze to deal with. As I work from home doing telehealth online, I figured I couldn't see patients online during the installation. They arranged it for the week, and specific days I asked for. The installers, Antonio and Abraham, were equally terrific. On time, considerate when inside my home, hard working, highly competent, efficient, well organized and clean, and so knowledgeable. They took the time to fully explain the system, how to use the remote, and even painted the outside covers for the cables so they blended in. The warranties are excellent - 12 yrs from Mitsubishi, 10 yrs parts and 3 yrs labor. And the kicker? They were more reasonable than the other quotes I got for inferior systems! The response time and person over the phone was great. They came out same day and fixed the issue. On the other hand the technician wasn't very friendly. Came looked and told me a starter would cost 395. I looked up a starter online and saw that the part was around 30 bucks. Considering he was here for 15 min that is an outrageous labor cost! Qualtech installed a new furnace system with new ducting for our 1920s home in the Oakland hills. They did a great job but we had to do a lot of supervision and discussion with them to have the system come out the way we wanted. To be fair, Daniel, the owner, was very accommodating and made all the changes we requested, and we are probably way pickier than the average homeowner, but you do wonder why you have to ask for all those changes to begin with - but that is more likely a reflection on the industry as a whole not this contractor. For example - Qualtech was planning to run a single duct in a loop to feed multiple vents in the house. We didn't like that idea because the vents at the end of the loop wouldn't get as much air as the ones near the beginning of the loop which seems like a flawed system so we asked them to instead have separate ducts to each room and to each vent within the large rooms. Another example - Qualtech ran flat ducts through the finished basement but wasn't planning to put any wrapping around them to prevent people from hurting themselves on the sharp edges. We asked them to wrap all the ducts in soft insulating material. All in all, like I said, they did a great job and accommodated all of our requests, but I'd recommend being an involved homeowner if you get similar work done. read more

During the consultation with Daniel, my husband and I asked him point blank what would happen if the HVAC work did not pass inspection. He replied "we always pass inspection". Well that certainly was not the case. We did not pass inspection because the airflow wasn't strong enough through our air vents. When Daniel came back to asses the issue, he said he would need to install a second intake and that we had to pay an additional $1500 and they would need another full day to do the additional work. I asked about alternatives instead of doing a second intake, just making the existing one bigger which is something the inspection company said could possibly be done. And he immediately shot me down and said "no it is going to be done this way". He told me that if we didn't pay the money, we wouldn't pass inspection and we wouldn't be able to receive a permit! Meanwhile, he was poking around the closets in my house "looking for equipment that they thought they left at our house". I was outraged and felt like if my husband was there he wouldn't be poking around our house or be charging additional money for the work. I was so upset I called Jennifer and the inspection company and between the two of them, they were able to get Qualtech to waive the $1500 fee. Earlier in the process Daniel also recommended an outside company to get rid of some asbestos for us that was surrounding our old HVAC ducts. The gentleman from the company tried to charge me $5,000 for abatement that should have been quoted for around $1,000. This man also walked around my house and asked what other kind of work we planned to do on our house and said that we probably had lead paint and more asbestos and that we should hire them to do all of that work for us too. It speaks volumes of the character of some of the people in this business if they recommend and support a company like this. While this may be a female owned company, certain employees definitely don't treat their female clients equally. Hopefully in the future this will change. The only reason I gave a 2 star rating versus a 1 star is because Jennifer was so wonderful to work with. We recently noticed one of our heating vents were not working at our home. We also noticed last summer that our air conditioner seemed to run all day just to keep the temperature down on hot days. I did a cursory inspection under the house and couldn't find a break in the duct leading to the problem vent. I arranged to have QualTech come for an inspection of the ducts. Omar and Luis form QualTech arrived at the arranged time, and I must admit I was a bit disappointed when I first met them. They seemed awfully young, and I was concerned that they may not have the experience to troubleshoot the problem. Boy was I wrong. They were professional, courteous and clear regarding the process they use to do the inspection. Within a few minutes of the inspection they found multiple places where the ducting had rusted out. The rust damage was so extensive that the ducts had collapsed in two major areas. I was able to see some if it myself; the workers took pictures of all of the problem areas. After some consultation, we agreed that the ducts under the house had to be replaced. They quoted a price that I thought was reasonable (I later confirmed it with a friend of mine who is an experienced contractor). They told me the replacement would require two to three days' work. The work was actually completed in less than two days. When we did a final inspection we noticed that the heat flowed better through the house, but it still didn't seem optimal. Omar asked to inspect the heater. After about 15 minutes, he called me over and explained that although the heater was working, it too had multiple leaks in both the unit and the ducting connected to it. His testing confirmed that the unit was only working at a fraction of the capacity it was meant to deliver. Again, he offered a reasonable price to replace the heater, and I agreed. Since the unit is over 24 years old, I had suspected that we would be replacing it in the next couple of years. Omar and Luis returned the next day and replaced the old heater with a new one, complete with all the connecting ducts. He also installed a new thermostat to replace the old one. Throughout this experience I was greatly impressed with the quiet and professional nature of both Omar and Luis. I was so impressed with them that I told them I would go with a new heater as long as both of them would perform the work. I would like to call out Omar in particular, as he was very articulate when describing to me the work to be performed. He gave very clear answers to my many questions, and when he didn't know the answer he would say so. I hope his supervisor is able to access this review, as both of them are outstanding professionals in their work. I highly recommend them. read more

Google Nest set us up with this company via another service called "Handy". Handy requires you to pay $60 up front for the service visit, which seemed reasonable to me so we went for it. A QualTech rep contacted us the day of the service to let us know approximate time of arrival, the two techs arrived on time. They looked at the thermostat, then went straight to the attic to look at the furnace. They didn't have the right kind of ladder so they hoisted themselves up with their upper body strength, interesting, but made me nervous from a safety perspective. After about 15 minutes, the main guy came at me with a quote of $825 for new gas valve. When I started asking questions, he said he could give me $100 off if I agreed to the service right then. I was getting a fishy vibe, so I said I wanted to ponder. Then he wanted me to pay for the service visit, $85. When I told him I already paid $60 via Handy, he acted surprised, still made me sign the paperwork saying $85, but I didn't give him more money. He asked me to call his personal cell instead of the company number to let him know if I wanted him to go ahead with the service. this didn't sound right to me, so I said goodbye. I called another company, who came out the next day - guess what? our gas valve is fine! Our filters were to blame, fancy filters need to be changed more often than the cheap ones. We had recently upgraded our filters and failed to recognize this detail. QualTech guys never even looked at our intake to see this. Other company charged us $95 for the very thorough 60 minute service visit. Lesson learned for us - don't trust Handy or QualTech. read more

The repair personnel seem very competent and they say they fixed our upstairs AC unit which was shorting out. My problem is with their pricing. The entire job took about 45 minutes, and only required one small replacement part that looked like a $10 electrical relay of some sort. They charged me $600. I called to protest, and I was told that this was their charge for this job, whether it takes them 30 minutes or 3 hours, period (I had been told it would be a 3-4 hour job in advance). Qualtech Heating & Cooling replaced a new Inducer Motor for my furnace. They charged $1,850. Later I found out that you can get an identical Inducer Motor they installed from Amazon and other suppliers at a cost of only $350-$400. The installation took only 30 mins. The $1,850 charge for this simple job is ridiculous and a rip-off. We can not trust this company. I want to share this terrible experience with you so that you are aware of this. Daniel was great to work with in designing the system and preparing a quote. Erika in the office was very responsive, keeping me informed as she tracked down the equipment--which was hard to come by due to supply chain issues. After the installation, she promptly filed the paperwork for the rebates that I was entitled to. (Important point: some rebates such as Bayren and Clean Tech California are only available through authorized contractors, and not that many contractors are authorized. But Qualtech is.) And the two installers, Tony and Eddie could not have been nicer. Their original suggestion was to run the AC tubing up the back side of my house, entering the attic under the eaves. I asked if they would mind running it under the house and up through an interior wall. That was way more work for them and involved crawling under the house. But they readily agreed to do it at no extra charge. They put down tarps everywhere they walked in the house and cleaned up beautifully. The whole company was a real pleasure to work with. read more

The Service tech purchased the mother board at a Fremont, CA store, installed and tested. The retail cost of the mother board was $90.00. I have to share what fantastic customer service I received from these folks. FINALLY!!! It was back in December (brrrrrr) when I came home to find my heater had stopped functioning. OMG - I called 3 places only to receive less than acceptable service times and over unenthusiastic customer interaction, I mean nobody cared. You know there are times you can just tell ...this isn't going to go well, but what can do. I established a time with a Concord company and just felt I could do better...and I can't believe I found Qualtech and in my neighborhood. For real in my neighborhood not a bunch of random numbers to make them appear local - they are local!!! The effort put forth, given the timing of my call, was OUTSTANDING. The service rep on the phone heard me, worked with me, and you just knew she was thorough and sure - wow. The service tech shows up - impeccable, so professional, communicated effectively and was super-efficient. WOW! So happy I canceled that other appointment that was easily going to take 2 more hours given traffic and time of day and that's what made me so upset because that service rep just wanted to create the ticket and get home. You just knew you wouldn't be able to reach anyone ever again. We followed through with the recommendation of that tech to have them come back (when it wasn't raining) to give our industrial unit a good overhaul, replace my filters, and clean up things. AGAIN - the service I received from the office was thorough and so pleasant. We had to reschedule a few times due to the weather, but that wasn't a problem - the service reps knew I needed a Friday appointment so I could work from home and even said we'd schedule out so I could have a 9-11 time slot. AND, holy cow - guess what time my maintenance tech showed up? At 9:00 - I have never had that happen. Listen, this is the company to use. This company was great! Yesterday, during the 108 degree heat, I realized that my AC was broken and that our house was at least 88 degrees inside. Since I have an 8 month old baby, I needed to get that fixed ASAP but it was after 5pm and I called at least ten other places and all of them were busy and didn't have time until the next day. Qualtech customer service goes above and beyond each and every time I have called. First encounter was to have a furnace tune-up and duct cleaning. They walked me through the process step by step. They were timely, informative, and did an excellent job. They informed me what I needed to do to maintain my old furnace for the next several years. Fast forward several months to a recent heat wave. I turned on my AC and it just blew hot air. Contacted qualtech and they said they could be out the next day! They showed up timely, did a quick check of the system, determined it was a starter and had the part in the van. They could have easily told me that my 20 year old AC needs to be replaced but they were honest and repaired it timely. Now it blows cold air. Then he said that the coupons I had would only work in certain ways.... Come back to reality dude!! I have coupons, you need to honor them! Then I looked the "furnace motherboard" up on amazon.com and found it BRAND NEW for $120.00!!!! Yup, you are reading that correctly! I had it to my house in 3 days and installed it myself. Super easy... i wish I could have paid myself $560.00 for an install... Don't use Qualtech!! Way over priced, obviously, bad customer service and come crossed like people that will look for anything to fix on your unit just to up the price. My experience with Qualtech was nothing short of superb! I had a whole new AC and Furnace system installed. My equipment was 31 years old and on its last legs. When I first met Daniel who is one of the owners, he impressed me as someone who was genuine, and professional. I had a budget in mind, and he tailored job to my budget. The deal was excellent! The equipment they installed is far better than I thought I could achieve given my budget. The installation was a whole day process that went pretty smoothly. His installation crew were professional and courteous, and they left the project totally spotless before they left at the end of the day. So far the furnace has been operating very well, nice and quiet too; haven't had an opportunity to run the AC yet due to the unusual weather we've been having. They also installed an Attic Fan, and that hasn't automatically turned on yet due to it not getting hot enough to do so. I should of write this review long time ago but it is never too late to warn all to NOT to use this horrible co. I called them to see why I am not getting cool air last summer during the 80-100 degrees heat at my house. They came and a person by the name of Alvarez told me that I need to change my A/C. My A/C was only 2 years old! I followed his advise of a so called expert and did not second guess them. After paying $5,000 I still do not get cool air through out my house. I called this guy Alvarez and told him that I am still in same condition he came and did some "chicken-S*%#" adjustment in air flow and left. The next day I still the same problems and I called them again. This time this guy refused to come and told me that is my problem now and he need to go other customers... Really! I guess I will see them in the court! read more
