He was busy but made time to come late in the evening to review our needs and educate us on our options. He had several helpful suggestions for saving energy and was honest and respectful of his competition acknowledging where other brands of equipment excelled in certain areas as well as how his Trane systems compared and excelled in other areas. He explained what we needed and what we didn't need as well as pros and cons of options. He is a Trane authorized dealer but may be able to get other brands of equipment. Although we elected to go through a manufacturer authorized dealer of a different brand, if John had been the authorized dealer we would have chosen his company. I can't say enough good thinks about John and his team. I called John after I had someone come out to fix a problem with my Trane furnace and told me the whole thing needed to be replaced. I was skeptical since the system wasn't that old. As the official Trane dealer for the east bay I thought I'd reach out to Air Performance and Heating for their opinion. John was awesome, he was also skeptical that it needed to be replaced, and he was able to consult with me over the phone and asked me to try a few things and spent time with me to try to fix it (all free of charge). Ultimately I did need to replace the system, and John concurred but only after trying a number of different things (all for free) which I was super appreciative of. When I decided to replace it, I asked John for a quote. He prepared a quote with high end and more budget friendly options. His quote was competitive with other companies, and given his great investment in helping me, and the great warranty he offered, we decided to go with him. On install day the team showed up at 9 (right on time) and worked all the way till 8 pm. They were professional and very nice, they communicated to us well, and their work was very clean. They even found a few ways to come in under budget. They came back the next day to finish up and test out the system, and again they were a pleasure to work with and have in my home. We called John @Air Performance for a quote on a new heat pump. It was late August and we were in a heat spell ( over 100 degrees) John was Prompt, courteous Professional and competitively priced. I asked when could they start he said the next day I said OK but was somewhat dubious. His guys were there the next day worked all day had a few glitches and would finish up the next day no problem. They came at 8AM and THEY WORKED UNTIL 11PM THAT NIGHT which was the Friday night before labor day and finished the Job.... he kept his word. The unit works great! Our air conditioner failed in our single story house during the summer (2021) and was fixed, however, it seemed like it needed replacement. We replaced our 24 year old air conditioner and furance in November 2021. We decided on the TRANE system with CleanEffects air cleaner and Air Performance. After determining we wanted the higher efficiency furance, we recieved a bid. In fact, we got 4 bids total. 2 for Trane, and one from the Lenox and Carrier dealer/installers. Each of these actually came to the house to scope out the work. We picked Air Performance because of some Yelp review comments and the knowledge of John (& Don in sales) about our specific install. We set up a time to start the install with John, the exceptionally knowledgeable owner. Ronnie was the lead. He and his assistant (I think Andrew) work very deligently and professionally to make modification to make the new system fit and function optimally. There are many details that they addressed during the install that I can't cover. A couple, however, stick out. 1-The air cleaner was postioned to be convenient to clean and yet optimally functional. Thank to the creative thinking of Ronnie. 2-The low temperature furnance exhaust was routed in the attic with the appropriate slope and end cap. Good job Andrew. 3-The 5 wire thermostat cable was replaced by a 6 wire cable. This was a lot of extra work- but done RIGHT. Both Ronnie and Andrew worked hard to route the cable. The Ecobee thermostat works GREAT. 4-Each of the ceiling registers were sealed to prevent leaks to the attic. This seemed like a small thing to me initially because no other installer did it. Wow! Was I wrong. As it turns out, significant leakage can occurs to the attic. So when closing the front door quickly it causes a vacuum and air (dust) can be drawn in from the attic. Andrew sealed all the registers as part of the standard install process. It was noticed that the house has a lot less dust than before. 5-And now the BEST. Feb. 18, 2022. The city inspector liked the install and even wanted more information about the installing company. He was amazed at the low duct leak level. Sealing the registers is one contributor. He signed off on it with no issues to correct. I recommend Air Performance to install or repair any Trane or other AC/Furance system. RonS read more

I would give 10 stars if I could. This company is the best! I needed everything new, my stuff was 20 years old. He gave me a fast quote, and started the work very quickly. They were done in record time! He's really quite the expert in his field. John works very hard, and is Nate certified. He hires people with integrity that know how to be kind to a customer, I appreciate that when I am stressed. And getting all new HVAC, including new ducts is major stress! His price was better than my first quote, and now I have a Trane 96% high efficiency furnace and air conditioner. We are super happy. This guy acted as if he was doing us a favor from the onset after we advised him we purchased the furnace from them in 2015 and was still under factory warranty. We expressed a concern that we needed a serviceman sooner rather than later with the weekend coming on. The man was rude and flippant responding as if we were entirely unreasonable and someone had just slapped him in the face. We called another co. and were advised that the plenum sensor went out. The technician advised that this installing co. provided an improperly sized (oversized) unit that accommodated a larger house. The tech. advised that because it was the improper furnace it was always going to over-cycle on the sensor and would eventually go out again. I checked the original paperwork that identified an install date in 2013. This could not have been a mistake. I had prior notes that this was installed by Performance Air in 2015. It is unclear if they were rude because they knew there was no money in it due to the factory warranty. It is unclear if the date mistake was intentional to avoid factory service. In any event, incompetence at install and unacceptably rude behavior to enjoin the warranty. Maybe this co. is just another Covid loafer? Not too much I can do about the install now. Integrity in America seems a lost value and I will no longer presume ethical behavior based on yelp reviews. I called Air Performance Heating and Cooling in early June to get a quote for a new furnace and AC. John and his team were very responsive in getting me a reasonable quote(not the cheapest) and scheduling an install date within a week. Everything was installed and working within 2 days but there were minor hiccups that still haven't been addressed even after three months later. We we're quoted a CleanEffects system but was informed that we couldn't get it due to supplier issues. John installed a new capacitor and the air conditioner worked immediately at a cost of $294 (included $79). He is very knowledgeable and very professional. He was very understanding and didn't press me to buy a new unit. I will need a new air conditioner and furnace in the near future and the repair will get me by for now. Air Performance Heating and Cooling will be my ONLY choice to replace these units even if i have to wait a few weeks in hot weather. I felt his honesty was sincere which most companies lack. John was honest in saying that he was swamped with calls for Sat., but would do his best to come out the next day. First off, I don't understand how this company got 5 stars. John - the president is not professional nor reliable. MY WORK ORDER WAS DELAYED FOR A WEEK!! The excuse? He never returned my calls or voicemails. I had to call him and then he didn't have his "schedule" with him so I had to call the next day for an appt. What kind of business is this?! Then when I got an appt, he never made it on time, I had to call him to find out where he was. Then he didn't know he had to get on the roof to check my A/C, then the list goes on & then he told my property manager he had strep throat. I don't understand why he took the job, if he couldn't do it??? What the heck, I'm seriously not making this up. I guess he does not have experience of sympathy for people suffering in their home with the heat blasting at 82 degrees. All I got was a sorry tomorrow, tomorrow, and I was stupid enough for believing him because of a stupid recommendation. If you want to wait over the weekend to have something fixed, then wait the week for him to get his calendar/schedule/illness/whatever together, go here!! When does the AC always break? When its 100+ degrees outside and then its always a mad scramble to try and get a company to come over to your house to fix it. Ours went down during a heat wave and with pets and a baby there was no way we could wait 1-2 weeks for service. I called Air Performance and spoke with John (owner) and he was able to get a service person out within a few hours. Our service person (Ryan) was friendly and fixed multiple issues getting us up and running again with cool air. Not only that, but he took the time to explain the parts needed and the work that he was going to do with pricing before hand. I worked my way down the yelp list to start and needed to call 8 different companies, 7 of them wouldn't come out in less than a week even after I told them we had a baby in the house. John is a very approachable and honest person. He patiently answered all of our questions and gave us an explanation for what was causing issues with our AC and furnace. I was expecting to purchase a new unit to replace my not-working Trane AC unit. A refill-and-seal by another firm (non-Trane-trained) had failed after a couple of weeks. Two other firms had simply come by, looked at my AC, and written up quotes for a new system. John methodically walked through diagnosing the unit, confirmed that there wasn't (at least any longer) a leak, and checked the condensor, air flow, temperature of the line, vents, EAC, and found the problems, fixed them, and was on his way. Excellent knowledge, reliable, and honest are the best ways to describe my experience with John. My heater was turning on, but wasn't firing (producing the heat). After being given the run around first, with my home warranty company and 2nd, with the company that originally installed our forced air heating system, it was a pleasant surprise finding this company on Yelp. No up selling, just great service and advice on our system. John was able to work his $80 visit fee into the service amount, unlike any of the other companies I spoke to. Air Performance in San Ramon just installed a new HVAC Trane system for us. I cannot say enough good things about their work. They were very meticulous and conscientious about the entire installation. I also believe they were extremely honest in explaining what I needed and why. I had an older HVAC system that the builder put in 23 years ago and it never really heated or cooled the upstairs sufficiently during that entire time. We decided to get a 2 stage, variable 2 zone system which cost more than the standard replacement, but we were ok with that. We wanted to fix the problem and do it right. It also includes the Trane computerized control pad that manages the whole system electronically. We couldn't be more pleased with the new system. Steve is a nice guy and got the job done. BUT, he didn't tell me how much it was going to cost. When the job was done the charge was a surprising $496.00 I was shocked. I asked if he would give me a breakdown of the parts and labor. He said no, they use a book that says how much to charge for a job and he gave me the lowest price. I looked up the price of the part and it was about $86.00. I called and said it looked like he charged me about $100.00 and hour labor. He again told me about the book everyone uses now to price a job. He finally offered me a $50.00 refund, I asked for more but accepted it as that was all he was willing to give me. I really think I could have got the work done for less so I think Steve is expensive. read more
