It is said that Mozart started composing music from the age of four. However, not all of us are…read morethat amazing, so we have to resort to actually practicing an instrument before we get good at it, or rather in Wolfie's case, all of them. Showcase Pianos is a store that specializes in high-end pianos. There is a smaller room devoted to their uprights which you have to walk through first, but their main feature are their Bechstein pianos (in the $20,000+ realm even for an upright) or their Faziolis (which can go up to a quarter of a million - yes, forget getting your kid that RESP, you'd be better off making them into the next Lang Lang). The features Bechstein is known for is a nice, integrated sound that can mimic a grand from the upright form, which is pretty impressive (if you see the soundboard for a grand piano and compare it to an upright, you will see what I mean... those strings aren't there to just look cute!). What makes the Fazioli about the price of 3 Steinways (which they don't carry)? Basically, the Fazioli is hand-tuned and handmade just like a Steinway, but the materials are ridiculous. The wood for the soundboard is what they also use for Stradivarius violins, which often reach the seven digits because of their unique construction and ability to project sound. The hinges are 18K gold (I have no idea why this is needed), and everything has been put through a rigorous test. How rigorous? Basically, every note in the Fazioli is extremely distinct sounding, and is easily brought out when one plays it. A Fazioli makes it so a performer doesn't need to really compensate for the muddying that often occurs on other pianos, particularly in the lower ranges. It can sound mechanical to some but it also means that you have a very high degree of control on how a piece is going to sound, which probably sounds quite odd to someone who doesn't play, as you're sitting up there tinkering about. However, there are certain ways a composition was written that make it very hard to "clean", or to make it sound clearer. Some decent examples would be to see a local recital soloist play Chopin or Debussy and then compare the same piece as done by some of the professionals as featured on Youtube. They let me play the Fazioli without any fuss, as well as any Bechsteins I wanted. The lady who was giving me a bit of a tour then sat me down to discuss purchasing them. There is no financing plan here unfortunately (unlike when you get some instruments from Tom Lee, I believe), but she did give me the full run-through and promotional materials even though I was dressed in jogging pants and a hoodie with a grease stain on it. So they treated me well, and let me play. Though, that may be about as far as I'll get with them for a long time.

An excellent and highly positive experience!…read more I am pleased to leave a great review for Showcase Pianos and its owner Manuel where my family had purchased our first grand piano. Both stores are filled with a large variety of piano brands and Manuel was very patient who took the time to allow me time to demo any piano (even the Fazioli grands!) as long as I needed with no pressure at all. I was very satisfied with the staff and they are not only knowledgeable about their products, but are very polite and helpful. I told my friends to visit Showcase Pianos and they had a wonderful experience as well. The manager really listens to what my family's needs were and his staff were able to narrow down a few pianos for me to decide on based on my budget and piano skills. As an university student looking to replace an old piano, I was very keen on trying quality pianos that will not hurt my family's budget. I ultimately special ordered a piano that was fit for me and my sister's level of playing. Despite a delay, the piano arrived in perfect condition and Manuel was very pleasant to offer a slight compensation for the ordeal. Overall, my experience was very positive and I hold high regards for Manuel and his staff. My family is very happy with the piano and I highly recommend Showcase Pianos.

I'm very happy to be the first one to review Pedigo Piano in Burlington…read more Purchased a used (but just like new) piano from them a couple of weeks ago. Was looking for a quality Baldwin spinet like the one I had when I was a kid. Had looked at some real dogs in the way of used pianos being sold online (people ask way too much for them). I've been playing for more than 50 years, so I know a good piano when I play one. Was expecting to pay much more for used at a piano shop than what you can find online. My advice: don't waste your time on buying used pianos from the online listing services. Pedigo was my last stop but should have been my first. Price was comparable to what you see in the online ads for used but included delivery, set up, tuning, and a two-year warranty. The buying experience at the shop was pleasant and easy. I was charged $100 for them to bring the piano upstairs, but that is reasonable and understandable. I now have a quality instrument and the assurance of not just a two year warranty, but if I choose to trade-up, the cost of this piano will go toward the next one I buy from them. After delivery, the piano needed a little more fine-tuning to bring it up to my standards, and they came through. John Pedigo, tuner and technician extraordinaire, not only re-tuned it for me, but tuned it to where that "sweet spot" of sound was brought out. While he was there, he even fixed an issue on my 130 year old Knabe upright grand, free of charge. Cannot recommend these folks and their store enough. Musicians, this is your place to go for a new or used piano, piano moving, and/or piano service.

Allison Piano - Lower than expectations: The experience did not match expectations. One of the keys doesn't work well--a foam got stuck after the tune-up

I had a terrible experience with Allison Piano recently. I…read moreasked for a complete refinish, and an acoustic refurbishment which they said they would do, but all they did was polish the piano, which I could have done myself, and glue on one small piece of badly-matched veneer. They did replace the keytops as promised, but they replaced the chipped ivorene keys with slippery white plastic instead of with the promised ivorene that was previously on the keyboard. The keys look good, but the feel is slippery and the look is not as nice as the ivorene that was there before. There was a large dent in the front, and they promised they would replace the entire piece of wood. But all they did was badly fill the hole in the front board and then did a very poor job of the finish on top of it, so now it has a very obvious large bumpy mark there, in a different color than the rest of the piano. They promised to work on the sound and key action, and tune it. They said that did this work. However, the keys sounded as dead as the day I requested the work. As well, the keys were all way out of tune. The action was abysmal and when I checked the felts they hadn't even sanded out the grooves, so the keys did not recover as they should. They unhooked the damper pedal and didn't reconnect it. They were supposed to fix the piano bench by replacing the hinge with the proper piano hinge, but they just stuck a wire in the existing hinge. They also actually damaged the bench, it has dents all the way around the top as if they were storing it in some strange way with wires wrapping the top shut and cutting into the wood. They made no attempt to repair the damage. On top of not doing the promised work, they delayed the work constantly. They promised to start work on it within three weeks of the initial estimates, but it took nearly 2 months and several calls before they moved the piano out to work on it. After picking up the piano and saying it would take two weeks and that the work would start in two weeks, the piano didn't get back to me for four months. I would not recommend their services. Just awful. The worst thing was if they had been honest in the first place I might have given them a positive review to say that they were honest that they could not possibly refinish the piano in the way I requested. And then I would have done the work myself or asked someone else to do it. But they led me to believe that they would restore it to top condition just to get the money for doing nothing. Just makes me really sad.
