While I find Howard to be a "typical" Tom Lee employee (first patronised them through their Hong Kong store eons ago) -- like Howard, they are generally knowledgable, conscientious, customer committed and proud of the high-quality services that they provide. In the esoteric world of woodwind instrument maintenance and repair, however, Howard Lee stands out: I've encountered no one with higher standards, work ethic, and reliability, than Howard Lee -- a true musical repair artisan.

Every time I've wanted to rent equipment from them, whether that be microphones, speakers, AV equipment, etc. I've given them a call or walked in and someone has easily been able to help me out. Most recently, I chatted with Mitch over the phone and he was able to help me out with renting AV equipment for one of my upcoming parties. I'm not much of a tech guru, so it's really helpful when the staff is knowledgeable and able to advise on what the best products and equipment to use. Also, living in a home full of musicians, my family's go-to shop when buying new musical equipment has always been Long & McQuade. 5/5 would recommend.

They had a good selection to choose from, and all the instruments were in fine condition. Anita Yu was a pleasure to deal with throughout the process. Our house is unusual and required a site visit from the moving company (Music Box Piano Movers who were terrific) to ensure the instrument would be able to fit through the front door as well as an interior narrow passageway. Anita was patient and accommodating while all of this got sorted out. In the end, everything worked out perfectly. I would highly recommend Loewen to anyone looking to purchase a new or used piano.

Recently, it opened a studio at an older building in Carnarvon St. New West. Not recommended for children 1. it is located at the public market and children are not safe to be there and strict adult supervision must be available if your are taking your child in there for lessons. Stay within the market area until your child is done. 2. the other place they just opened, was equally unsafe located at an old building with dark rooms in Carnarvon St. 3. the person answering the phone, who said her name is Maria wants to know your personal information first before she gives out any information about Music Box, such as the schedules of the lessons, the fees and the teachers. She says that someone will call back your house, just leave your phone number. 4. Maria says she can't give details about Music Box because she just works there, which does not make sense if you're working on a place, you should be able to give more information. 5. she does not want to be interrupted when she speaks as she asks for your personal information. 6. In both places, the office hours they feature, no one answers the phones At other times, no one is available to take your call. You have to go personally if you happen to meet someone who is not with a student or you send an e-mail and wait for reply. If someone is busy with a student, you have to sit outside at the market and wait for your to get information or wait in your car if you go to Carnarvon St. PARKING: with a fee at the Quay and parking meter fees at the Carnarvon studio. Music Box does not refund parking. I'm not sure that if you are a customer, you'd get a parking discount. I found out there are other places in New West where you can take your child for lessons with competitive price quotes and quality lessons as well, including free recitals and free parking, as well as safe surroundings. Also, those places do not hesitate to give out information and you'll be able to confidently enroll you child which I did. After several weeks of chasing for info. from Music Box, I got to enroll my kid for private lessons at Douglas College Community Music. She's happy, I'm happy and it's worth my money.

Mentioned to JR a Garrard Zero-100 would complete my collection and they had one in the back! JR also called to say they had a remote for my Nakamichi CD player! Very glad they're in my neigborhood. Repair tech could not repair a CD changer. Message relayed by front desk to me was that it had a…read morebelt problem and "it is a known issue with such units". Took the same unit immediately to a longtime repair tech who closed his Vancouver store and it was fixed within days. I did not mention he was the second pair of eyes to take a crack at it. Surprised, I asked him to verify if the unit now works, and he gave me a puzzled look as if it was no big deal. And, it works perfectly now. Disappointed that Innovative's repair technician took half my deposit but did not take interest in fixing a simple repair. Having said that, their staff out front are always very friendly and great. The establishment used to feature on premises, a radio studio, which is no longer there unfortunately. Yet it is a museum-like experience with unique vintage Japanese equipment on display and sale. For all of these reasons, this establishment is worth a visit but do not endorse their 'repair dept'.
