He took the time to personally call me, listen to my concerns, and provide me with his direct personal contact information. They paid for the simple repair at another shop. That level of accountability and customer service really stood out to me. Rather than making excuses, he acknowledged the situation professionally and made it clear that he is committed to improving the department and raising the level of service customers receive. From our conversation, it's apparent that he brings a great deal of experience and a proven history of success, having worked with nearly 20 dealerships. He seems to have a clear vision for revamping the service department and creating a better experience for customers. While the original situation was frustrating, I believe good leadership is demonstrated by how someone responds when things go wrong. I wanted to negotiate a drive-off price via e-mail since I live in LA and wanted to secure a price that I was happy with before making the 100 mile drive out to Carlsbad. Will introduced me to Ash, his sales manager, and after a few more email exchanges, we agreed to a price that I was happy with. Just like Will, Ash was very friendly and professional in his e-mails to me. I was fearful that they would try to upsell me with add-ons, or make the long drive out there only to find out that the car was no longer available, but those fears were unfounded. Once my husband and I reached the dealership, Ash greeted us immediately, knew exactly who I was, and knew exactly what car and what price we agreed upon. No haggling, no bait-and-switch, no upsell tactics. We were also introduced to Will who showed my husband the vehicle for a test drive. Will was such a car enthusiast like my husband that they spent the next 15 minutes just chatting up about all the previous vehicles they had owned. He was such a pleasure to work with! He walked us through the forms and then brought us over to Leo who worked in the finance department. Just like Ash and Will, Leo was super friendly and personable. He went through our financial documents so efficiently too! The whole process at the dealership took less than 2 hours, including the test drive. My husband and I have purchased over a dozen cars through the years and we both agreed that our experience at AutoNation Mazda Carlsbad was by far the best. Beware of RECOMMENDED services suggested by JUAN at Mazda Carlsbad. At my 32K maintenance…read moreappointment (April 2026) it was recommended I do a Brake Flush and a Coolant Transfer. At the time, I declined because I like to research expensive repairs before proceeding. I called yesterday to schedule an appointment based on the 'Service Due' message on my dashboard. My car has approx 37K miles on it now so it is just out of warranty but due for an oil change & tire rotation. I purchased the service maintenance plan when I purchased the auto in National City (another story) so those services are covered until the plan expires next year. Again both a Brake Flush and a Coolant Transfer was recommended. I said 'yes' to those additional services knowing I had time to research typical cost, etc. for those services. Well, low & behold, I discover that Mazda specs recommend a Coolant flush at 10 years/120K miles! In the meantime, I called a local auto service who was APPALLED that Mazda Carlsbad would 'recommend' service that was unnecessary and didn't correspond to Mazda's official recommended service schedule. So, I called JUAN to discuss this discrepancy (recommending a service 90K miles BEFORE it was necessary). I just got off the phone with him and his attitude was 'it's recommended, but hey, it's your my decision'! Thank you, JUAN for allowing me to make my own decision, you little snake! So, even though I called him out for recommending an unnecessary service he acted as if it was no big deal trying to sell me on something my car didn't really need. Now that my car is out of warranty I will only take it there for oil changes, tire rotation and services covered by the plan until it expires next year. Oh, and by the way it appears that their service personnel seems to be different every time I go there... STAY AWAY FROM MAZDA CARLSBAD. THEY ARE SHADY AF.

Dealing with Toyota Carlsbad was hands down the worst car buying experience I've ever had . I know…read moredealerships get a bad rap, but my god, I'll never step foot on to Toyota Carlsbad. A little backstory: I went to a different San Diego Toyota dealership to buy a new truck and trade in my current truck. No hassle, no fuss, I was offered $38K for my truck (KBB range for my truck was $36K-$42K). Unfortunately they didn't have the truck I wanted so I said I'd like to think about it. I left and did some research and saw Toyota Carlsbad had the truck I wanted. And here, our story begins. I called Carlsbad to see if they'd give me a quote for my truck over the phone. Mark was the one who I was transferred to to work out a deal. After going back and forth for over an hour with him and the previous person, he finally gave me a verbal offer of $35K. I told him no thank you, and disclosed a different San Diego Toyota dealership offered me $38K. But if Carlsbad could match or beat that offer, then we can work out a deal for my truck and also buy a new truck. He asked me to text him a picture of the offer when we get off the phone and he'll "see what he can do". So I immediately text him a picture of the offer sheet from the other San Diego Toyota dealership and well as the KBB print out... no response for the rest of the day. I then text him later the next evening because I never heard back from him asking if he can help me. He then responded 3 DAYS LATER with, in short, "drive to Carmax, they pay top dollar. Get a quote, send it to me, and I'll match it". I told him I don't have time to drive to carmax because I work the next several days, but if he can just let me know if he can match or beat the offer from the other San Diego Toyota dealership to let me know and I'll drive over and make the deal because they have the truck I like. He then insisted the rest of the next 2 days via text that I drive to Carmax and he'll match that offer. To humor Mark, I called Carmax during my lunch break and asked if the offer is the same in person versus online because I can't come in person before they close due to work. They said it's the same. So I did their online offer option and the offer was $34K. This is what REALLY makes me angry. Rather than saying yes or no on my other offer to match or beat it, he insisted I go to Carmax. And he WELL KNEW that the offer was $34K, that's why he strategically offered me $35K. And why would he think that him matching an offer at $35K is something that I would entertain when I already proved to him that a different San Diego Toyota dealership offered me 38K?! He then later offered $36K, but I mean what's the point? I explicitly asked him to match or be that offer in order to make a deal. This is the reason why people don't trust car salesman. It's all lies and deception. I feel bad for the people who aren't quick enough to research things on their own and be able to recognize when people are straight lying to them. To end of the story, I went to a different San Diego Toyota dealership and they were amazing (see my other review for that company). They beat the 38K offer. Straightforward, honest transaction. No Carmax sales pitch. Just honest conversation and easy transaction. Two Toyota dealerships out of the three never mentioned Carmax once. So for Carlsbad to continue to insist I go to Carmax for an offer when they knew was a lowball offer, it's just so shady. Easy to say, I will never go to Carlsbad to buy yourself a vehicle
